Remember yesterday when we reported that an art installation at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany featured a mod that set the classic 1978 arcade game Space Invaders against the backdrop of the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11?

Well, it turns out that (not surprisingly) the makers of Space Invaders did not give permission for their game to be modded and displayed in such a manner, and ain’t too happy about it.

The Taito Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix Co., Ltd., today issued a statement saying that the Invaders! installation by Douglas Edric Stanley was produced entirely without their knowledge and that the use of the world-famous Space Invaders content was wholly unauthorized. The “Space Invaders: the Anniversary Show” exhibition of the Computer Game Museum Berlin hosting the installation was likewise planned and presented without Taito’s knowledge and authorization.

Over in Germany, the best games of Leipzig were annouced this morning, as named by Leipziger Messe, and the grand winners are (drumroll) Mirror's Edge for the 360, LittleBigPlanet for the PS3, and Skate It for the Wii! (/drumroll). In the PC category, Spore took the prize.

In the hardware category PlayTV, Sony's media extender and movie-download service, beat out the rest of the field. The full, official winners list is below.

Peter Parker's symbiotic swing in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows shows off its latest trailer. The symbiote that has taken over Spidey's arch nemesis, Venom, has gone rampant but that's not entirely a bad thing. Why? Because it's damn nerd-tastic to see Wolverine in a whole new perspective: Adamantium and symbiote unite!

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, developed by Shaba Games, is due out this November 21 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Nintendo Wii, DS and PC platforms.

The gore-tastic title from Valve, Left 4 Dead, shows off its latest gameplay trailer. With a look at some of the enemies, weapon varieties and insane amount of zombie fodder, we absolutely cannot wait to get some online co-op going with this game.

Left 4 Dead, developed by Certain Affinity, will be out this November 4 for the Xbox 360 and PC platforms and is being published by Valve Software.

Codemasters and Blue Omega Entertainment bring you Damnation, a new shooter that presents players with open-ended puzzles to solve.

The game is set to release on December 18, 2008 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Jumpgate Evolution, the new PC MMORPG from Codemasters and NetDevil, aims to satisfy the itchy trigger fingers of gamers that thought EVE Online was too slow. The game releases later this year.

Hit the world famous Vegas strip in Midway's new open-world game, This Is Vegas, for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will release in 2009 and allow you to simulate the nightlife of Sin City.

PlayStation 3 exclusive FPS Killzone 2 is coming along great. First shown at E3 2005, the game has been in the oven for a while, and every minute of development is showing in the screenshots we're bringing you this afternoon. Check out the gallery! The game is set for a 2009 release.
