Max Payne 3

Max Payne is back, baby, in all his gritty, violent, bullet-spewing glory! G4's own Miguel Concepion was fortunate enough to get a first look at Max Payne 3, and bring back word on how it's shaping up. The initial reaction: It's great. The third game in the series keeps what has always worked about Payne, while incorporating recent gameplay innovations. Check out a sample of our Max Payne 3 first look:

"It was when I saw Max in the hallway that all the memories started to flood in. We all spent many, many hours in the hallways of the previous games and the superb graphical detail in Max Payne 3 made me think that a remake of the original game wouldn’t be a bad idea. Things become even more familiar when Max makes his first slow-motion leap toward a couple of mob goons, unloading rounds in classic Payne fashion. It turns into a thrilling charge down subsequent hallways as Max wields standard issue firearms like the dual pistols and a shotgun."

Batman: Arkham City Challenge Modes

If the achievements for Batman: Arkham City are to be believed, a future DLC pack will let the player spend time as Nightwing - the original Robin, all grown up. According to an article on Joystiq, the new achievements that leak point to a future "Nightwing Bundle Pack" that will let players play as Dick Grayson.

I'm all for a Batman game that includes every character possible, just so long as they manage to retain their own characteristics.

What about you guys, are you excited for the growing cast of characters in Batman: Arkham City?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Over the last year, we've been more and more impressed with what's going on with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, an action/RPG that seemingly offers a fluid combat system without sacrificing the depth roleplaying fans crave. We recently spent a few hours playing the early part of Reckoning, exploring dungeons and slaying kobolds, and yup, we're still surprised by the scope:

"Getting to experience this starting point for the first time also allowed me to appreciate how the quest system aggressively branches out with missions outside the main quests. In fact, our two-hour session only afforded me time to play two main quests, compared to the eight or so side missions I accepted thereafter. And that doesn’t even include the various faction quests you can come across; these become available depending on how you choose to interact (or not interact) with others."

Be sure to dig into our Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning hands-on preview to see what else awaits would-be warriors and wizards!

Syndicate At Long Last Confirmed By Electronic Arts And Starbreeze Studios

We recently got to go hands on with Starbreeze's upcoming action/stealth hybrid Syndicate. If Deus Ex: Human Revolution was your kind of game, then you'll definitely want to take a look at our preview of Syndicate. Gunplay, corporate warfare and brain hacking were all featured in the demo we played.

"There were many opportunities to test out the breaching feature on other characters and useful objects. While the standard first person shooting mechanic is addicting and performs well, it is equally satisfying to mix things up by breaching sentry guns to turn on foes or hack guards’ brains so they can kill themselves. One noteworthy scene found me looking in on an interrogation. By hacking one of the of guards’ brains, I managed to drive him mad enough to shoot not only his partner, but also the guy they were interrogating, finishing off the scene with a shot to the guard’s own head. Breaching is also one of the various abilities that can be improved, using an upgrade system that can enhance weapon performance, influence other characters, and even cause enemies’ weapons to backfire."

Find out if Syndicate will blow your mind in our Syndicate hands-on preview.

One of the new assassin tools in Assassin's Creed: Revelations is the Hook Blade. In this new trailer we see that it has two parts: the hook and, surprisingly, the blade. You'll use it to pick pockets, climb buildings, slide down zip-lines and of course, assassinate targets. After you take a look at the Hook Blade, be sure to check out the sweet new combat montage footage after the jump

When you've gotten your fill of Assassin's Creed: Revelations footage, be sure to tell us in the comments what you're looking forward to using the Hook Blade for.

L.A. Noire PC

PC gamers are in luck: Awesome Los Angeles detective simulator L.A. Noire is coming to home computers soon, and our own Jake "Gumshoe" Gaskill got his hands on it to offer an in-depth preview for your investigating pleasure. For an extra level of immersion, Jake even played it in 3D! Here's a taste:

When the game boots up to the menu screen, the subtly of the 3D is instantly apparent. Watching a shadowy Cole strolling down the dark alleyway before selecting our mission is packed with eye-pleasing details. Cole’s long shadow extending the entire length of the alley, the slow running stream of water running down the center of the street, shimmering in the moonlight; the steam wafting photorealistically from nearby pipes. All of this, and I haven’t even started the case.

We're closing in on Skyward Sword's D-Day, the swan song for the Nintendo Wii, and it's shaping up to be an interesting ride. Our own Nikole Zivalich spent some time with the new Legend of Zelda and spills the beans on the beginning of the game in her Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword preview. Here's a taste:

"Skyward Sword opens in Skyloft, a floating city consisting of bird-worshipping people who depend on Loftbirds for transportation. Their homage to birds is made even more clear by the bird statues littered through the level. Link is encouraged to "pray" to these statues in order to save the game. Loftbirds and their human masters are parts of a whole; they have an emotional connection where Link needs only whistle and his bird will be there. Think Avatar."

I'll admit it - I love Minecraft. It brings back a lot of fond memories of building ridiculous structures with Legos. Well, on September 29, Minecraft will be heading to Android phones. And on that day productivity will die around the world. Check out the video showing off the touch-screen controls.

Get a look at the visceral action in The Darkness 2 in this new trailer for the upcoming shooter. To me it's looking like a cross between the tendril action of Prototype and the visual style of XIII, just with a whole bunch of gore. Do you guys think it'll be able to stand out with all the other shooters coming out?

Batman: Arkham City already has a pretty robust Rouges Gallery, and while we've known The Joker is in the game, he has remained noticeably absent from the trailers. Until now that is.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution "The Missing Link" Walkthrough »

This October, fans of Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be in luck when the "Missing Link" DLC comes out for the 360, PC and PS3. I was lucky enough to be able to check it out recently, and as a fan of DE, I was impressed: Finally, further Adam Jensen adventures. Here's a taste of my favorite aspect of the DLC:

"The opportunity to build a new Jensen with no effect on the rest of the game (and the trophies and achievements you might be going for) was one of the highlights of the DLC for me. Because I played the main game as a stealthy, non-killing Jensen, I chose all combat augmentations and heavy fire-power for the DLC."

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher 2 will be getting a pretty hefty 2.0 update on September 29th according to Eurogamer. The expansion will be larger than the enhanced version of the first game, and includes 40 new technogical and gameplay enhancements, all nine DLC packs and three big new features. The update will include a number of new features - including a new tutorial section new players have been clamoring for. If you're an experienced player, you'll appreciate the other new features: A new, super hard "Dark-Mode" and a new Arena Mode.
