Modern Warfare 3

When it comes to content collections, Modern Warfare 3 is king. On March 20, everyone's favorite shooter is dropping a ton of new, awesome stuff, including new maps (Liberation, Piazza, Overwatch and Black Box) as well as two brand-new Spec Op modes. Kevin Kelly took an early look at the new content, and brought back these words:

"The two new Spec Op modes are interesting because it’s the first time they have ever added anything new to Spec Ops through DLC, and the two Ops couldn’t be more different. In Black Ice, you start out as either the driver or the passenger on a snowmobile heading down an icy expanse and fighting off baddies on snowmobiles in hot pursuit."

Check out the rest of our Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection preview... oh, and don't miss the Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection 1 video preview, either.

PixelJunk 4am Makes You The Performer This Spring

Check out our preview of PixelJunk 4AM. It's an intriguing game, and not only did we get to hands-on with the title, but we also got an interview with Japense DJ Baiyon who worked on the game. Check out a taste of our PixelJunk 4AM preview.

"If PixelJunk 4am sounds trippy, that's a fair assessment. It is not, however, outrageous. The controls are tricky: After trying to jump right into the game I had to ask for the tutorials, and even then had some trouble grasping the fundamentals. 4am is simply unlike any game I've ever played before. Cynical critics may say it isn't a videogame at all, but 4am is yet another in a rising tide of video games that argue for a transcendent definition of what a video game actually is, and make the argument that it's more like a canvas upon which creators may paint their creations. In the case of PixelJunk 4am, that's literally what the point is."

Tera

Tera is known for its beautiful graphics and real-action combat, but in our latest preview we got to check out a bunch of its new features. New forums, different currency types and an overhauled brokerage system are just a few of the things we got to test out, as well as one of the game's horde mode instances:

"The odds weren’t great. The hordes would rage through in waves for 20 minutes. All we had to do is survive. We almost made it. We survived through to the 10 minute mark, at which point access was granted to rechargeable environmental traps that could be triggered at intervals. The hordes were too much. How horde mode works in Tera isn’t any different from any other game that uses it, and eventually the screen was pretty much engulfed in enemy character models."

Check out our full Tera preview to find out what else you get to look forward to in this upcoming MMORPG.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter: Next Medal Of Honor Game To Be Released This October

Jake "Dogface" Gaskill is among the first people on earth to see Medal of Honor Warfighter in action, and we've got his preview. Part of Warfighter's raison d'etre is its realism: The newest Medal of Honor puts you right into real wars, without you having to actually be in real wars. From the Medal of Honor Warfighter preview:

"Every single mission in MOH Warfighter takes inspiration from actual real world military events. This 'ripped from the headlines. approach is what Danger Close hopes will make Warfighter stand out among the ever increasing pack of military shooters on the market (not the least of which is the studio’s close partner DICE and its Battlefield series)."

Read the rest of our Medal of Honor Warfighter preview. Oh, and if you haven't already, check out the MOH Warfighter launch trailer and details, as well as the first Medal of Honor Warfighter pre-order details.

bloodforge

Bloodforge is an upcoming Xbox Live title from U.K. developers Climax. The game was recently featured at Microsoft's Spring Showcase and we were lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the game. Bloodforge is a God of War type game where gamers will assume the role of Crom, a Celtic warrior who is out for revenge.

"And it’s of little surprise that the studio is trying to hone that balance of making Bloodforge accessible to players who want to button-mash their way to the end as well as gamers who want to take advantage of the potential combat depth and the lore of this new IP.  As the Climax spokesman put it that day, “At its core, it’s about chopping people up. Lots of fun."

The Secret World

When we needed someone to preview upcoming MMO The Secret World, we tapped the great Sophie "Owes Me $50 of Buffalo Meat" Prell to play it and bring back her impressions. The game drops all the overdone magic and elves of most MMOs in favor of new kinds of online game-playing.  Here's a taste of her preview:

I recently played The Secret World beta up at Funcom's Montreal studio, my first time with the game. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can tell you I wasn't expecting to be cheering and screaming in excitement with my fellow gaming journalists. And yet, that's exactly what happened as we dove headlong into a battle with a demon-possessed Nazi doctor and his thirty-foot tall mummy monster.

Check out the rest of our The Secret World preview.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is not just a cookie cutter sequel of Remedy Entertainment's cult hit Alan Wake. The direction of the upcoming title takes a drastic shift in tone from the first game and it will now be a downloadable title only available on XBLA. We got to check out American Nightmare at CES 2012, here's a snippet from our latest preview.

Remedy has gotten creative with their shadowy ghouls, and during just these two levels I saw a number of the new monsters sure to spook even the most sound of mind. The Spliter—predictably—splits in two every time it’s hit with your beam of light, forcing you to kill it off quickly or risk being overwhelmed. The Grenadier is the first Alan Wake enemy to actually run away from the player, throwing shadowy grenades behind him. There is also a massive monster of a man carrying a buzz saw while seemingly taking no damage. And as dawn approached in the ghost town, a creature who split into a flock of deadly black birds haunted me restlessly.

Grab your flashlight and read our entire Alan Wake's American Nightmare preview.

Hitman Absolution Embargo 1/11/12

In our latest look at IO Interactive's forthcoming Hitman: Absolution we find our favorite bald assassin infiltrating an orphanage in hopes of tracking down a woman named Victoria. Check out a snippet from Jake "Barcode" Gaskill's in-depth preview of the game.

"Creeping onwards, we could still hear the Reservoir Dogs-ish scene playing out behind 47. In addition to teaching players why it sucks to be tied to a chair, beaten, and then shot in the leg point blank, this brief encounter drives home one of the key elements at play in Absolution: the living, breathing world that now surrounds Agent 47’s every action. IO’s new Glacier 2 engine allows for all manner of audio and visual trickery, but it also gives the developers the ability to create far more complicated and dynamic AI systems to drive the game’s NPCs, ensuring that no two playthroughs will be exactly the same. Similar to the Assassin’s Creed series, it’s the variety of options at your disposal at any given time that makes a Hitman game so rewarding and enjoyable, and the AI will now play a much larger part in bringing this about."

Rainbow 6 Patriots

Our own Miguel "USA!" Concepcion got an early look at Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots and was impressed. Very impressed. The game's ripped-from-the-headlines vibe and tactical gameplay look promising. Very promising. Here's a taste of the preview:

"There’s an unapologetic, almost raw vibe about the new Rainbow Six, Rainbow 6: Patriots, that we haven’t felt before from Ubisoft’s tactical assault series. It even feels like a series reboot, accentuated by changing the franchise branding from “Rainbow Six” to “Rainbow 6.” If it’s not a reboot, it is at least an evolution, something that Ubisoft Montreal is mindful of--along with inspiration from current events--to shape this latest installment in series. The developer/publisher has left Vegas in favor of a serious channel of expression. It’s not about making demands or trading captive officials for prisoners; in Ubisoft’s eyes, many of today’s terrorists are patriotically motivated by this simple thought: We just don’t like you."
