Happy Valentine's Day everyone! By now you've probably already heard about Tim Schafer and Double Fine's Kickstarter campaign to fund their new adventure game. The unprecedented success of this endeavor has sent shockwaves through the gaming industry, making people wonder if this is a new way to side-step major publishers and allow development studios to have their projects funded directly by the fans. Such is the topic of this week's Soapbox. Find out what Adam has to say on the subject, and if he thinks this will change the way the industry works.

I havent done any acid in many years, but I remember it being alot of fun. Seeing a review for Secret Six brings back a rush of good memories. I miss that series. I love Cameron Chase in Batwoman, really interested in picking up that trade.

Video Games At The Grammys -- Two Video Game Songs Get Nominated

If you follow Awards Season, then you know the Grammys are this weekend. Just about a year ago, The Feed featured my thoughts on why video game music deserves a dedicated Grammy Award. In the intervening year, the Grammys have gone through a major overhaul, reducing the total number of categories from 109 down to 78. While this may sound like a bad thing for video game music, it really isn’t. In truth, both original and compilation game soundtrack albums (and individual songs) have been eligible to win a Grammy award, just not in a dedicated category. Be that as it may, if we as game music fans had any say in the nominations or categories, things might be different.

Despite what you may think, it's no fun to write a bad review. No matter what the outcome may be we all recognize it takes a lot of hard work by a ton of people just to get a game out the door. Adam Sessler's review of Kindgoms of Amalur: Reckoning came out today, and if you've read it you know he was not pleased with the outcome. In this week's Soapbox Adam discusses how difficult it was for him to write a bad review for a game he has such high hopes for.

Okay I am confused. Why did Game Spot and I.G.N and Game Spy say kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning got a high rating? Hmm maybe their getting payed to give the game a good review. Well I know X-Play is a none biased web sight that has the true game testers like Adam and Morgan that aren't being paid to give a crappy game a good review,so kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning was a 2 out five rating huh,I guess I'll stay away from this game.Lol

Monday Morning SWTOR Comedy Trek : Engage!

Space might be big, but it's only one entity, which means that both the Star Wars and Star Trek universes take place in the same space, no matter how big it is. So, it's not out of the question that they know about each other...or at least watch each other on television.

In celebration of Monday comedy, we bring you this tale from the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic, in which two characters discuss a rather famous episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Confused? You should be...they are.

We look forward to bringing you comedy each and every Monday, to help you adjust to the pain of a new week. Watch this space for more details.

In the past year or so it's become very common for new games to include an "Online Pass" inside the box. This code will unlock certain aspects of the game like multiplayer, co-op levels, or future downloadable content. It's pretty obvious that publishers have done this to encourage gamers to buy new games rather than used ones, but Sessler doesn't think it's the best idea. In this week's Soapbox, Adam explains the flaws he sees in this new business model and why the Online Pass may not be around forever.

Pirated games always has happened always will. Codes, Anti-Piracy measures, online checks, all of them repel a willing and wanting consumer.

Let's say a pirate named... oh... Luffy D. Monkey decides he wants to play some Assassin's Creed. But low and behold he needs an active internet connection, the CD in, he's gotta put in codes. He says, "This pisses me off, I bought the game and they treat me like I stole it." Then low and behold next time he sees an Assassin's Creed title he's...

I always enjoy when Brian Compton stops by. Good show this week. Infinite Kung Fu looks like the perfect gift for a friend of mine. I'll have to remember that. Super excited to see where Walking Dead is headed. This is a big step. Loving Cap & Bucky. Last arc featured Chris Samnee now we get Francavilla. Literally two of my favorite artists in comics today. Really liking the story too. Narratively I havent been real keen on the Flash, but issue #5 changed that. Killer layout on that first...

With the disappointing sales for the Nintendo 3DS some people think handheld gaming is on the way out. Sony disagrees, and are about to release their next handheld console, the PS Vita. Adam Sessler recently got his hands on the Vita and decided to spend this week's Soapbox discussing its high points and low points. Sure the tech is impressive, the graphics are amazing, and the screen is gorgeous, but is that enough anymore? Find out why Adam thinks the Vita has an uphill battle on its hands in this week's Sessler's Soapbox.

So let me get this straight.....

a 3DS selling more in it's first 9 months than the DS (the second best selling video gaming console of all time and the best selling portable gaming system of all time) sold in it's first 12 months means the the portable gaming market is dying?

That is some sound logic right there folks.... -_- I love how people say the portable gaming market is dying, but cannot point to any data that says so. It's sad journalism has sunk so...

Last week's Batman felt like a lost issue from Grant Morrison's run. What the hell is going to happen next? Daredevil was very good. Kano did a bang up job as guest artist. I flipped through Prophet at the shop Wednesday and it looked amazing. I cannot possibly sustain another ongoing series right now. Sorry Prophet your awesome sci-fi will have to wait for TPB.

There's been a lot of talk recently about how movie ticket sales were down last year. What you may not have heard is that video games sales were also down 8% compared to the previous year. While some people may claim this is a sign of the end of console gaming or the movement towards social gaming, The Sess strongly disagrees! In this week's Soapbox, Adam will explain why he thinks sales were down last year and why he's not worried about the future of traditional gaming.
