Dragon Age 2

Dragon Age 2 was criticized for repetitious environments, lackluster enemy AI, tedious battles, and a sometimes stuttering story. So why should you care about the upcoming Dragon Age 2 DLC, "Legacy"? Because it takes each and every one of those complaints and addresses them, according to community feedback. Here's a snippet of what we thought in our Dragon Age 2 "Legacy" DLC hands-on preview:

"As with past BioWare DLCs, so much of the add-on content has been based off constructive feedback from the fans. For "Legacy," fans get their fix of new areas (both indoor and outdoor), a richer story, new creatures, and a larger emphasis on battle tactics. Not only does the environment play a more notable role in combat, with traps that both sides can use, but the way enemies enter the battle has been changed subtlety."

BioWare's adventures with Hawke and crew continue in the DA2 "Legacy" DLC, and it doesn't look to disappoint. Be sure to check out the full DA2 "Legacy" DLC preview to learn more!

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is challenging the long-running joke in video games that our hobby has become dominated by personality-less, indistinguishable space marines. It's running headlong into that notion with the dark and violent Warhammer universe, and a single soldier leading the charge. But this franchise was born out of competitive play with other human beings. So what is developer Relic doing to embody that in a virtual game?  We checked out Space Marine's multiplayer to find out:

"Space Marine’s multiplayer can be divided into two distinct categories: gameplay and customization. Given Warhammer’s pedigree of giving players endless choice when it comes to personalizing and managing the countless units that comprise the various armies available to players, it’s no wonder that Space Marine features a deep character customization system that lets players tweak, color, and outfit their soldiers--Space Marines and the evil Chaos Space Marines--in 1.8 billion potential ways."

But don't worry, customization isn't the only Warhammer tribute Space Marine employs. Combat is brutal and tactical, encouraging classes to work together to destroy the enemy. If you want to know more about that though, you'll just have to check out the full Warhammer 40k: Space Marine multiplayer preview!

With Comic-Con 2011 quickly approaching, Adam had comics on the brain so he decided to spend this week's Soapbox talking about comic book video games.

Sure we all remember the travesty that was Superman 64, but now we have great examples of wonderful pulp to polygon adaptations like Batman: Arkham Asylum and the sequel Batman: Arkham City. Do you think comics are an untapped resource for great video game material? Or is the transition between mediums just too difficult to get right more than a couple of times?

Comic-Con 2011: The Official G4 Survival Guide

For four manic days in July, San Diego hosts the largest pop culture event of the year: Comic-Con. Unlike the massive game conventions like E3 and even PAX, Comic-Con isn’t just about video games – in fact, it’s almost hard to pin down exactly what the show is “focused” on, since it encompasses graphic novels, film, TV, web entertainment, games, art, anime and so, so much more. Like live episodes of X-Play and Attack of the Show!

But whether you’re on our way to San Diego as a gamer or just a pop culture fan, we’ve prepared a few survival tips for you. After all, nobody wants to come back from a con complaining that all they saw was the back of some dude’s head in line, and a few lame Slave Leia costumes. The first thing newcomers should be aware of is just how gargantuan SDCC is. Take the most crowded PAX (so far, that would be PAX East 2011, with 69,500 attendees), multiply that by two, and you’ll get a rough estimate. Lines are an adventure unto their own – and a topic we’ll get to shortly.

Of course, that also means there’s a ton of variety, and awesome stuff you won’t see anywhere else. Where else in the world can you go to a panel about diversity in comics, check out a Klingon Lifestyles presentation, attend a four-day low-budget filmmaking boot camp, or hear George R.R. Martin discuss “epic” storytelling, all in one weekend? Read on for your survival tips!

The Video Games of Comic-Con 2011

Video games at Comic-Con? That's right, kids. Ever since the funnybook pages fell to the onslaught of movie and television mortar-blasts of information at the Con, it's become a wide-open playing field for all things pop culture. First and foremost of those (and already raking in more cash each year than film and television) is video games. They'll be out in force at this year's Comic-Con, and G4 will be front and center and covering them.

In addition to all of the live coverage you can expect from X-Play and Attack of the Show, we'll also be covering the show floor, attending panels, conducting interviews, and previewing video games. In case you're attending Comic-Con and you want to check out the game stuff for yourself, after the break you can see a full list of all of the video game content at the show. Which ones will you be attending? Or if you'll be watching from home, which panel has you the most excited? Check out the list below and let us know!
