Ahh the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Along with Transformers and Voltron, they spawned one of the defining cartoons of my childhood. Those rascaly turtles got to kick butt, live in the sewer with a giant talking rat and eat all the pizza they could handle. But despite the turtles carrying around badass swords, nunchucks, bo staffs and sais, none of the bad guys ever really seemed to get hurt. That is until now. So for what happens when the TMNT put their weapons to good use, a new trailer for a movie from the baddest action star in Thailand and more, check out this week's links.

  • CollegeHumor takes a look what would happen if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually used their weapons.
  • You don't see much public access TV anymore these days, and the crazy has mostly migrated onto the internet. However, Manofest has the 10 funniest public access prank calls of all time.
  • FilmDrunk has the new trailer for Ong Bak 3. So head over there and get your fill of Elephants and flying elbows.
  • In honor of the NCAA Basketball tournament, and also to up the cute factor a little bit, HolyTaco has 25 photos of animals playing sports.
  • At Disneyland or Six Flags or any other amusement park, there's people dressed in costume to help keep the kids happy and take pictures. Outside of the parks, people in the same costumes can be a little creepy. Uncoached has a bunch of photos of them getting arrested.

I love me some South Park. Once again, last night's show was on-point, but I especially enjoyed South Park's take on the Tiger Woods scandal. Check out Stan and Cartman playing the next Tiger Woods golf game...Pre-nup power-up!

Skate 3

Skateboarding simulator Skate 3 will be released on May 11, so get ready, video game skaters. It will be out on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and the big innovation this time around: Lots of online co-op play and a robust skatepark/terrain editor to create your own thrash-palace.

“Since the very beginning of the Skate franchise, we have captured the true essence of skateboarding, be it from the feel of nailing that perfect trick, to the feeling of just hanging out and sessioning with your friends,” Jason DeLong, Senior Producer, said in a press release. “For us, Skate 3 is the culmination of this endeavor – the most connected, accessible and social skateboarding experience yet.”

Skate 3 also features a full roster of pro skaters to choose from; I've embedded the names of the game's pros under the cut.

GDC 2010 Preview: Sports Champions

Nintendo knew exactly what they were doing when they bundled the Wii with the ridiculously popular collection of simplified, motion-based sports games, Wii Sports. Not only were the games satisfying in their own right, they also served as the perfect introduction to the Wii’s revolutionary control scheme. Throw in the massive sales of the beefed up sequel, Wii Sports Resort, and it’s absolutely no wonder that Sony decided to create their own sports-based compilation title to launch with their PlayStation Move motion controller.

Patrick Klepek got both of his hands on the tentatively named Sports Champions during GDC 2010. Sample quote to follow:

"Like Motion Fighters, Sports Champions emphasized what's possible when developers design games with the option to have player's utilize two PlayStation Move controllers at once. The controller in the left hand moves the shield, while the right controls the weapon of choice."

To find out more, be sure to check out Patrick's full preview right here. More GDC 2010 goodness can be found over at our GDC coverage supercenter.

At GDC 2010 today. we talked to Randy Chase, EA Product Marketing Manager, about EA Sports MMA, the mixed martial arts title that coming to the PlayStation 3.

"We were able to borrow some technology," Chase said of EA's gold-standard fighting series Fight Night. "But We really wanted to make this game from scratch. MMA is a totally different sport from boxing."

MLB 10: The Show

The sport of Baseball somehow manages to be incredibly boring and incredibly fun at the same time -- neat trick, Baseball! Our own Jake Gaskill, however, is never boring, and he reviewed baseball simulator MLB 10: The Show to see if this video version of our National Pastime is as awesome as Derek Jeter, as terrible as Rob Deer or as middle of the road as some boring guy who plays for the Twins.

According to Jake:

"It’s not a perfect game, and it still suffers from a number of issues found in last year’s iteration, but the overall package is something that no baseball-loving PlayStation 3 owner should miss. This one is meat."

You heard it here first: The Show is meat. Read the rest of the review, right here.

Tiger Woods 11Promising to give virtual golfers "an authentic interactive swing experience," Sony today announced that the next Tiger Woods game (PGA Tour 11) will support the PlayStation 3 motion controller.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will also simulate the prestigious Ryder Cup in an online mode, where players can choose either the U.S. or European squad and participate in the various competition formats – foursomes where players hit alternate shots, fourballs and singles which traditionally bring the biennial event to a close with players going head to head. Up to 24 players will be able to compete head-to-head as members of team.

The American team will be headed by Tiger (natch) and the Euro team will be run by great golfer Rory McIlroy, who had this to say in EA's press release:

“This is a huge honor for me to be the on the cover with Tiger Woods as I grew up idolizing Tiger... The Ryder Cup has always been my favorite sporting event and the tournament is being played at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in 2010. Also, I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to represent the European team later in the year – it’s all very special.”

The game will be available on June 8 on the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and iPhone platforms. I, for one, am buying it for the PS3; golfing might be the killer app of all motion control schemes.

Pure Futbol Announcement Trailer »

Tired of waiting around for EA to release a fourth FIFA Street game?...Ok. Probably not. But if alternative takes on major sports is your thing, then you might be interested to know that Ubisoft has just announced a new soccer title called Pure Futbol.

The 5-on-5 soccer title will feature an “over-the-shoulder camera and visceral audio,” giving the game a decidedly more physical feel than traditional soccer games. 230 real-world players, 17 international teams and 17 soccer legends are included, and there’s also the option to take a user created character through the game’s campaign mode. The game also supports four-player local multiplayer as well as one-on-one online multiplayer (Not sure why the game doesn't support four-player online multiplayer, but I'm guessing we'll be hearing more about the game in the coming weeks).

Pure Futbol is scheduled for release in May.

Shaun White's Skateboarding

This morning, Ubisoft announced the existence of Shaun White Skateboarding. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Shaun White Skateboarding will arrive during the holiday season of 2010.

Ginger-headed Olympian Shaun White is no stranger to gaming. His Shaun White Snowboarding games have proven very successful. White is also uniquely qualified to lend his name/expertise to both a snowboard game and a skateboarding title--he's the first athlete to win gold medals in both skateboarding and snowboarding at the Summer and Winter X Games.

"I can't describe how excited I am about the skateboard game,” said Shaun White in a statement. “We've been working on it for a while now and it's ready to melt minds."

Mind-melting aside, it seems to me that the field of skateboarding games is pretty full. You got Tony Hawk, and the Skate franchise-- is there really room for another game where you attach wheels to a plank and try to do flips?

As for what will set Shaun White's entry into the sub-genre apart from his peers, we're not sure yet. It's a little early for full details, but as soon as we get them, we'll pass them on. Until then, check out the White's official game site.

NHL 2K10 Review

There will not be an NHL 2K11 on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Take-Two Interactive revealed it would be taking a year off from developing an NHL product on both those platforms this year.

"We're committed to competing and winning," said Take-Two CEO Ben Feder during a question and answer session with analysts discussing the company's first quarter fiscal 2010 results.

Take-Two clarified that it will still develop an NHL release for the Wii to be released this year, but Electronic Arts will have complete control over the market on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"We think as a result of that [extra development time] the following year we'll just come back a lot stronger," said Feder.

Baseball season is just around the bases, and that means that this year’s baseball games are as well. 2K Sports will be serving up their offering, MLB 2K10 in a few days time, and based on what we’ve seen of the game so far, the developers certainly made it a point to address a number of the concerns and criticisms brought against last year’s game.

To better prepare you for what this year’s installment brings to the plate, we brought in 2K developers Sean Bailey and Jonathan Rivera to intentionally walk us through the game’s new hitting/pitching mechanics, new presentation elements and general design improvements. So step up and hit play.
