Sessler's Soapbox

So, Grand Theft Auto IV is finally here. Is it all you thought it would be?

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam makes the case for GTA IV having the potential to be as influential to next-gen gaming as Grand Theft Auto III was for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. What do you guys think? Is GTA IV revolutionary? Or is it just another sandbox game with poor gun controls? Check out the video and let us know what you think below, or you can share your thoughts on our forums.

When the Wii first hit shelves in November of 2006, everyone was excited about the door of motion control that had just been opened. According to the commercials we saw leading up to that holiday season, the possibilities seemed endless.

Now, we're a year and half in and it seems that aside from Nintendo, developers seemed to have been more interested in wedging in motion-controlled moments to otherwise conventional videogames rather than trying to get the heart of what the Wii can actually do.

Well, that's why WiiWare is here, and that's what's got Adam excited in this week's Sessler's Soapbox. What do you guys think? Can WiiWare change the uninspired drought of third party titles for the Wii? Check out the video and let us know what you think or share your thoughts on our forums.

No doubt some of you read about the recent controversy regarding Newsweek columnist N'Gai Croal's statements regarding the trailer for Resident Evil 5. Well, in this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam's got something to say on the issue. What do you guys think? Has Capcom been insensitive to its audience, or are people overreacting? Check out the video and let us know what you think or share your thoughts on our forums.

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Sessler is taking on Hollywood. Adam's got an issue with movie-type big wigs who prefer to blame a movie's sub-par performance on the release of a videogame instead of considering the possibility that the movie simply wasn't very good. What do you think? Do you think Halo 3 is at fault for the poor performance of The Heartbreak Kid? Will GTA IV affect Iron Man? Last week, X-Play reviewed Crisis Core for the PSP and, well, apparently the review generated a little controversy amongst fans of the show and the Final Fantasy franchise.

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam takes on his critics and explains why he gets so worked up about being accused of "not being in line with other reviewers."

What's not to love about the English?

Tea and Crumpets. Wickets in Cricket. Spotted Dick and "Bob's your uncle." And let's forget that accent! Ah, swoon...

Like I said, what's not to love about the English? Well...

Adam's got plenty of reasons not to in this edition of Sessler's Soapbox. This week, Adam rails against the English habit of blaming all manners of violent crimes on videogames and slasher pics. What do you think? Do think he's right? Are the English any better or worse than we are when it comes to censorship? Check out the video and share your thoughts below or let us know what you think on the forums.

Are you tired of lazy game design? In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam is taking on poor context sensitive design in games. The feature is pretty wonderful when it works, but when it doesn't, it fails on an epic scale. What do you think? How do you feel about context-sensitivity? Any games where you like it? How about ones that annoy you? Check out the video and let us know what you think or share your thoughts on our forums.

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam turns his sights on now-former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer and his downfall as 'Mr. Clean'.

As you may recall, Spitzer made a name for himself battling Wall Street corruption as well as attacking videogames, blaming them for violent crimes and increased sexuality among teenagers. He fought hard against games such as Grand Theft Auto and look at him now.

Sessler's Soapbox: Ode to a Hypocrite »

"And Sessler spoke unto the game publishers, and the game publishers saw that it was good, and lo, the will of Sessler was obeyed."

-Book of Sesslerians*, Chapter 1:1

For those who don't remember, about 5 months ago, Sessler stood on his soapbox and made a plea, to all the game publishers, to please stop weighing down the end of the year will their releases. Well, it certainly sounds like the game companies listened as we now have GTA IV coming out in April, as well as Ninja Gaiden II and Metal Gear Solid 4 both debuting in June.

Well, in this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam is talking about just that. What do you guys think? Are you excited about games year round or do you count on getting most of these games as Christmas gifts? Check out the video and let us know what you think or share your thoughts on our forums.

In this week's edition of Sessler's Soapbox, Adam is tackling the subject of EA aquiring Take-Two Interactive and what this means for the videogame industry as a whole. What do you think? Sessler's back on his Soapbox this week to talk about the X-Play's recent review of No More Heroes for the Wii. Last week, X-Play's Adam Sessler twice addressed the recent controversy with BioWare's space RPG Mass Effect. First, in Sessler's Soapbox, Adam discussed the series of online ravings by a conservative blogger who had never played the game. Then, on Friday, Adam turned his attention to the recent FOX News segment on the game, which incorrectly reported that Mass Effect featured full graphic nudity and sex. Check out the two videos and then let us know where you stand on this issue.
