Pax East 2010

You should go to Penny Arcade Expo East 2011. I can't stress this enough. It will be really, really good for you to hang out with the rest of your gaming brethren in a positive, fan-driven environment. Trust me, I'm a medical doctor.

The convention goes down in Boston, March 11-13, but you can pre-order PAX East 2011 tickets right now. You should jump on it. They might sell out, and then you'll miss one of the highlights of the 2011 gaming year.

G4 will be there, of course, covering everything game related, from news and announcements, to interesting lifestyle pieces, features and surprises. Check out last year's mini-site for an idea of what we'll be up to.

So let me lay it on the line: Are we going to hang out at Pax? I'll give you a Kit Kat bar if you go. Swear to God.

At PAX 2010 you know it's all about bringing a community together for some good old gaming fun, but the community also comes out to cosplay. Get a taste of cosplay as we show you the the best and the worst cosplayers at PAX 2010. This is the only PAX cosplay music video you'll need to see and for more, check out our Cosplay and Booth Babes Photos from PAX 2010.

This might be the last time the team at Bungie do a Halo panel at PAX, so before we say farewell to the Halo franchise why not learn how Halo: Reach was created from scratch. Find out what the developers, at Bungie, had to go through to put together the single player campaign and designs for the multiplayer levels. For anyone who wants to get into development side of the gaming industry, watching this panel is a good place to start.

Adam Sessler loves the Ratchet & Clank series and was more than welcome to host the PAX 2010 Insomniac panel. Get all the information you want to know about Insomniac's latest game, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, which is packed into one awesome panel. Featuring on this panel is Chad Dezern, Studio Director for Insomniac; Shaun McCabe, Production Director; TJ Fizman, Senior Writer; and James Stevenson, Senior Community Manager. Watch and enjoy this long and in-depth look at the co-op gameplay for Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.

At PAX 2010 Valve showed off the co-op demo for Portal 2 and we have the walkthrough video down below.  In co-op, players take the role of either a skinny, orange robot or a fat, blue one. Each has a portal gun, and the two work together to solve challenges presented by GLADos. Hopefully, when I play the co-op mode with someone they're not as stupid as me.

You did your part, buying virtual goods to determine the fate of the last Carmine in Gears of War 3, and now the results are in and there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that we raised a ton of cash for charity (how much? See the video below!), but the bad news? You'll have to see this exclusive special thanks from Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson from Epic Games on the fate of Carmine in Gears of War 3

Disney Epic Mickey Opening Cinematic Part 2 Trailer »

I genuinely wish you, and every gamer alive, could have attended Warren Spector's keynote speech at PAX 2010. Spector, the creator of Deus Ex, Thief and now Disney Epic Mickey, kicked off the con with a very inspirational speech that gave a thumbnail sketch of geek history, moved on to the current "Golden Age" of gaming, and gave a look at the future of games as an art form.

"Games are an art form," Spector reminded the crowd.  "I'm no longer going to worry about that, or what society thinks of it. We're unique; we're an art form, and we're here to stay."

This is an announcement announcing the announcement of the announcement of a new game from Insomniac. The Ratchet and Clank makers are preparing to reveal a new title some time between now and PAX Prime on Labor Day weekend.

We have no more information than that, although if you want to be among the first people to check out the trailer for Insomniac's incredible-mystery-OMG-what-is-it?? game, the move is to subscribe to their newsletter. They promise they'll be sending out a video of the game to newsletter subscribers the moment it's announced at PAX. We'll have the vid up at G4 soon after that, trust me.

Even better: If you're going to be at PAX in Seattle, attend Insomniac's panel on Saturday evening (September 4), at 6:30pm in the Serpent Theatre. Where X-Play's own Adam Sessler will moderate a panel with key creative talent from Insomniac Games. Whatever the new game is will be shown, and demoed, to the adoring crowd at Penny Arcade's Expo.

We recently spoke to Monday Night Combat's creative director John Comes about the class-based, third-person shooter's modes, classes and unique style.

"Monday Night Combat has two different game modes. the first game mode is a single coop game mode from one to four players either local split-screen or Xbox Live Arcade," Comes said. "What we're showing at Pax today is our crossfire mode, mode, which is an online, six-on-six competitive game."
