God of War: Ascension "Maegara" Character Preview »

Sony Santa Monica revealed the next major enemies that legendary angry dude Kratos will be facing off in God of War: Ascension during its PAX Prime 2012 panel: the Three Furies.

These three terrifying ladies are responsible for holding the bond for Kratos’ life, so you can imagine them being none too pleased with his decision to reject the slavery he agreed to and do his own hacky-slashy thing. As a result, these ferocious foes are on the warpath, and their primary target is Kratos.

We saw one of the three Furies in action in a super short teaser trailer shown during the panel, and her name is Megaera. This arachnid-esque beast sports an extra set of long, spidery legs attached to her back that let her move with deadly speed while also giving her a significant height advantage. She’s also quite adept at picking dudes up with one leg and tearing them apart with another, all while having enough free hands for some killer juggling or face pummeling; which suits her, since she is very much interested in introducing her many fists to Kratos' ever-smug mug. Sony Santa Monica is keeping the other two Furies close to its chest for the time being.

Whether these enemies will appear as singular bosses or throughout the campaign as simply an enemy class remains to be seen, but at least we have our first clear sense of who/what Kratos will be directing his unrelenting and ever brooding fury towards when Ascension releases in 2013.

Fuse Announced By Insomniac's Ted Price

Insomniac's Ted Price announced a new IP called Fuse. The announcement was accompanied by a lone screenshot during his PAX Prime 2012 keynote. A countdown clock has since popped up at FuseGame.com. We expect more will be revealed in 11 days, 16 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds, 6 seconds, 5 seconds, you get the idea.

After the keynote, Game Informer ran an article confirming Fuse was actually Overstrike. The four-player co-op game was announced at E3 2011 but has been MIA since. Fuse is also a four-player co-op game, but no other details have been announced. We'll know for sure next week!

Laika Believes: Obscure But Awesome Game Watch

Back in March I told you about indie platformer Laika Believes, a game from Minicore Studios with a very interesting premise and a lot of potential, especially for a space nerd like me. Today, we learned that Laika Believes will be released in three episodes, each with 5 -8 hours of gameplay. The first episode is planned for a Spring 2013 release. The second and third episodes will be released within the following year.

Laika Believes is an alternative history platformer in which Laika, the famous Soviet space-dog that was the first animal to ever to orbit earth, didn't die in orbit. Instead, she returned as a half-robot half-canine hybrid. The earth has been taken over by the Soviets, and Laika sets about rescuing the survivor of the USSR's dystopian horror-world.

Lollipop Chainsaw

Would you kick the woman above out of your convention for being too sexy? This is reportedly what happened over the weekend at PAX East 2012, when Lollipop Chainsaw spokes-model Jessica Nigri was asked to leave the show floor until she changed out of a revealing outfit.

The outfit in question is below the "Read More" tag, courtesy of Lollipop Chainsaw creator Suda51's Twitter feed.

The costume change wasn't enough, apparently. After she changed back to her regular Juliet Starling clothes (shown above) she was asked to either change again, or leave the show entirely. Bye, Bye, Juliet.

Pax East 2010

Some of you might have received e-mail updates yesterday about Penny Arcade Expo East. If you didn't, here's the big news: the dates for next year's Boston-based PAX East have been officially set for April 6-8. The more religious Jewish and Christian folk among you will notice immediately that there's a pretty big conflict here.

The dates for PAX East conflict with Passover, which starts on April 6, and Easter, which falls on April 8, a fact the show's organizers are well aware of. An update on the PAX website offers a brief explanation.

"It wasn't our first choice by any means, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we're working with the city to hopefully prevent it from happening again." If that's not enough to satisfy you, Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo offers a more complete one on the Penny Arcade forums (thanks to Wired's Jason Schreier for the link!).

We've got a treat for you, gamers. Below you'll find a live stream of Irrational Games PAX Prime 2011 panel. If you didn't make it to PAX you missed out on one of the most interesting panels you may ever see. The panel stars Ken Levine (Creative Director, Irrational Games), Troy Baker (Voice of Booker DeWitt from BioShock: Infinite), and Courtnee Draper (Voice of Elizabeth) as they discuss the evolution of Elizabeth and Booker as characters, as well as their in-game relationship and its impact on the player's experience.

OnLive Getting Wi-Fi Support, Half-Off Labor Day Sale

If you decided to miss PAX Prime this weekend, you're probably already regretting the decision, but I'm about to make your pain even greater: The makers of OnLive have decided to give one of their cloud-based gaming systems to anyone at PAX with an OnLive account.

From OnLive's twitter feed:

"Everyone who visits our booth and tells us their PlayerTag gets a FREE OnLive Game System! Be ready! Sign up now!"

"But I don't have a PlayerTag!" you may be whining. Don't sweat it. Check out OnLive's signup page to sign up.

Details are a little scarce on how, exactly, you'll acquire your free semi-console, but, hey, stop by Booth 258 during PAX and find out what the deal is. After all: It's a free console!
