India- Lambo Jones

Following hot on the heels of Rolls Royce and Bentley, Lamborghini has set up shop in India and are selling its Gallardo, Gallardo Spyder and Murcielago models to the masses And by masses, we mean 10 people, which is how many the car company has projected it will sell this year there.

India has a population of 1.08 billion people, yet most of them are really, really poor. And with roads being of the dirt variety, driving a sport car like a Lamborghini is a very showy, obnoxious way of telling people, "I have waaaay more money than you, come burn my house to the ground." But the company has already sold six cars and delivered two. They expect to sell 50-60 cars per year soon enough.

AMG, the factory performance division of Mercedes-Benz, is establishing a new specialty Performance Studio to serve the needs of people not satisfied with the AMG-tuned hardware at their local Mercedes dealership.

The AMG Performance Studio will work on three separate series of vehicles. The high-end will be occupied by the Signature Series, made up of models that are exclusive and designed to handle laps on the track. The first Signature Series model will likely be a successor to the CLK DTM coupe/cabriolet (pictured here). The Black Series will be "racetrack compatible" and very sporty, though likely more tractable in everyday driving than Signature Series models. And then there's the Edition lineup, which will be based on AMG production models and feature cosmetic changes to the exteriors and interiors.

Performance-wise, the Targa 4 runs to 60 in 5.3 seconds and tops out at 174 mph. For the Targa 4S, those numbers are 4.9 seconds and 179 mph. As with other 911s, a six-speed manual is standard equipment, with Tiptronic S available on the list of options.

Ford began production of a dedicated hydrogen internal combustion engine at its Engine Manufacturing Development Operations in Dearborn Heights, MI today, making them the first automaker to do so. The engine is a supercharged 6.8-liter V10 and will be used in the E-450 hydrogen-fueled shuttle bus. The V10 engine delivers 235 horsepower and 310 ft-lbs of torque and emits almost no regulated pollutants or greenhouse gases.

Florida customers will be the first to score the super-engine. No word yet though as to how or where customers would refuel their shuttle bus, but one can assume many, many old people will be riding in them.

Tata Motors has been working with General Electric's plastics division to develop solutions for its forthcoming ultra-low cost small car. The project could be a breakthrough for the company, with potential domestic sales of 1 million units per year. The four-door, rear-engine car will sell for only $2,200, which is less than half the price of most cars in the Indian market. Tata chairman Ratan Tata says they will be replacing welding with adhesives to decrease assembly costs, and is considering shipping modular car kits to small, local business units combining assembly, sales and service under one roof. Ironically, they will be replacing already plastic small parts like doorlocks, air conditioning vents and window rollers with heavy, wrought iron peices. (NOT!)

According to a survey by Valvoline, 60 % of ASE certified Master Automobile technicians say that a vehicle's oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. Twenty-nine percent said between 3,000-5,000 miles is acceptable and just two percent voted that between 5,000-10,000 miles is okay. While it's true that the oil in your car is its lifeblood, it's tough to take a survey about oil change intervals that's conducted by Valvoline too seriously. That's like McDonald's doing a survey saying that eating a Big mac a day will increase your lifespan. I mean, the mechanics surveyed also just happened to vote Valvoline as their number one oil of choice. So...er...they may not be all that credible.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is systematically selling off his sweet collection of custom cars one by one...on eBay. Even to the casual observer this seems very strange. One, that he would need to sell the cars at all and two, that he would use eBay.

Regardless, if you've got a couple of thou between the couch cushions, you too can own an amped up Corvette with cherry red flames on the hood. Dale Jr. will even sign the car if you want him to!

So, what are you waiting for?! Bid! Bid! Bid!

...accountants everywhere are upset.

Toyota announced today that they are delaying the release of the new Corolla model, meaning that this year will be the current model's sixth year on the market.

This move goes against Toyota's normal policy of retiring models after five years on the market. Toyota claims that they devoted so many of their engineering resources to redesigning the Camry, that they didn't have time to get to the Corolla.

However, now the new Corolla will hit the streets in 2008 and boy, isn't your mom going to be happy!

Now, go away.

BMW demo'd parking-assisting technology this week at its Munich headquarters. Yes, the luxury car maker has developed a robotic parking system that will park your car for you as you stand outside and watch in glee and awe. "You just press a button," managing director of BMW group research and technology Raymond Freymann said. "It is something simple, but something that is really smart." The car calculates the trajectory, activating the gas pedal and turning the steering wheel accordingly. The company says the technology will be available within three years. I say robo-cars will take over the world in five years. Anyone wanna bet?
