Seems like you can't swing a dead cat on the internet these days without hearing about something going on in Second Life. The latest news from the MMO is that Toyota launched their new Scion (the Scion xD) and a re-designed?xB?simultaneously in?Second Life and um, first life. They held press conferences about the cars in both Scion City in Second Life and The Chicago Auto show.

"We developed Scion City to connect with the trendsetters," Adrian Si, Scion's interactive marketing manager, said. "That's our target demographic--people who do things first. Trendsetters are instrumental in promoting brands."

So, in Second Life we can now drive cars, talk to people, shop for things, gamble, have sex, as long as we earn enough virtual money to make it happen? Sounds like real life. Except the flying part, I guess...oh, and the sex.

Open Season On The Autobahn

Posted February 7, 2007 - By JLawson

All I have to say is "phew...."

In a measure that would have had auto enthusiasts the world over weeping like little boys, the Chancellor of Germany has put the pedal to the metal by backing legal measures to keep the Autobahn the fastest piece of asphalt in the world.

Being criticized by the European Union for adding harmful automotive emissions, the Chancellor rebuffed the EU's claims and "reinforced the German automakers' claims that unrestricted speed testing is what assures the high level of engineering that makes them the best in the world at speed."

Seriously people.....could you imagine if Mercedes-Benz and BMW couldn't drive their cars at speeds in excess of 120 mph? It would be madness I say....madness!

Coming to the German Chancellor's aid was none other than a high-ranking BMW insider, who also agreed with the Chancellor's reasoning and even said that "if we no longer had to engineer our cars to satisfy their potential top speed, there would suddenly be a fundamental change in the way we go about our business."

That's right EU....eat their dust!

Knightrider For Sale

Posted January 30, 2007 - By Frank Meyer

A Canadian car seller who goes by zapper80 has built a spot-on version of KITT, the crime-fighting super-car from the '80s action show Knightrider, and it's up for sale on eBay!!!

He says it cost him $40,000 CDN to make, and claims to have used original molds as the source for some of the body parts.

Sure, it doesn't have the "Turbo Boost" function that allowed it to fly over trucks, but it's still be a pretty awesome score if ya can meet the reserve of $19,000 CDN or "buy it now" price of $30,000.

If you do, please come pick me up for the TV Land Awards...

Men Rule, Women Can't Drive

Posted January 23, 2007 - By Frank Meyer

Traffic STATS is reporting that women are far safer drivers than men, and that men have a 77% higher chance of dying in a car accident than women.

I will drive over there and kill those f***in' bastards myself! I will rip off your heads and s*** down your neckholes!!!!

The study says that women are less likely to be involved in a car accident because men drive faster, take more risks, and drink and drive much more than women.

You're?friggin' right we do.

Solar Powered Thrust

For the last year, UNSW Solar Racing Team has been designing, constructing and refining a solar powered car, the Jaycar Sunswift III, to get ready for a world record attempt. The car is powered by silicon solar cells that YOU can adopt via the Adopt-A-Cell project.

The project involves local and corporate communities in a partnership to help them "make history by developing the most advanced solar powered vehicle in Australia."

For the record, I am also asking for donations. But mine are for me to "make history by developing the most advanced solar crotch in America."

I'm more than a little in lust with the concept Acura unvieled today.

Sure, it looks a little like a race car a tenth grade gearhead would draw in detention, but 10th grade gearheads are cool.

According to Honda, the car is a V10, rear wheel drive and "gracefully combines advance technology and strong emotions."

More details and pics if you click.

Rapper Jay-Z has teamed up with General Motors to offer the public a "Jay-Z Blue" colored SUV.

Hova emerged from one onstage Saturday during a celebrity-filled party thrown by General Motors Corp. on the eve of media previews for the North American International Auto Show. Posing with the cars were Carmen Electra, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox, Rosie Perez, Christian Slater, Mario Lopez and Nick Lachey.

Wait a second, GM and Joay-Z partner up and all they can come up with is to paint a friggin' car blue? That's it? No pimped out interior? No sweet rims? No turbo charged engine? Just...blue? You guys blew it, man.....

(By the way, is it me or does Jay look like a big wussy in that picture?)

BMW wants you to enjoy your tunes in their cars, but with a catch...they want you to use their equipment to play them.

Who knows if this is indeed a BMW version of a media player, but the multimedia device being displayed supposedly "supports Bluetooth and USB and can play CDs, DVDs (via a 65,000-color LCD screen), MP3 files and interprets voice commands."

Having witnessed BMW's first foray into the world of gadgets with their BMW engineered skateboard, do you truly think that the German powerhouse?could have you walking with one of these in hand?

Don't blink or you might miss it...

Hennessey: Drunk On Power

Posted December 28, 2006 - By Frank Meyer

In addition to making that fine Cognac all the rappers seem to enjoy, Hennessey has a knack for making top-level modified supercars. Yes, the booze-makers earned their rep by slapping a coupla twin turbochargers to the Dodge Viper to rack the power up to 1000 horsepower.

Now Hennessey is taking the Ford GT, adding a two Garret turbochargers, an intercooler, a new exhaust system, a custom intake manifold, a revised engine management system and a whole bunch of other modifications.

"The Hennessey Ford GT Twin Turbo puts out Koenigsegg-like levels of power: 850 horsepower and a matching 850 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to propel the throwback sportscar to sixty in a claimed 2.6 seconds, covering the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds on its way to a very Veyron-like top speed of 240 mph."

They haven't announced how much these bad boys will cost, but one can imagine it's a lot more than a bottle of happy juice. But, hey, these rappers can afford anything as lojng as it's blinged out, right?

Philly Death Block

Posted December 28, 2006 - By Frank Meyer

You hear it and figure it must be some kind of urban legend. A truck driver makes a wrong turn and ends up. Well, it's actually not true.

Truck driver William Carroll got lost in the suburbs around Philadelphia and got slapped with a $17,000 ticket

How the hell is this possible, you wonder? What in God's name could possibly warrant a ticket for that much dough, you ask? What'd he do, shoot the cop that pulled him over or something?

He just missed a weight limit sign that was leaning and partially obscured, and before he knew it he was stuck trying to turn his big rig around in a residential neighborhood. Police caught up to him and gave him the ticket. Bing bang boom.

The Philly cops say that the fines are so high because heavy trucks can do a lot of damage to certain bridges and roadways.? It's $150 for the fine, plus $150 for every 500 pounds over the 3,000-pound weight limit.

Quick! Will someone please tell Dom Deluise not to move to Philly!

Ford and Toyota Join Forces?

Posted December 27, 2006 - By Eugene Morton

When Ford CEO Alan Mulally and President of the American branch, Mark Fields visited Japan last week to meet with Toyota execs, the automotive industry responded with a flurry of excitement and speculation.

To quell any wild rumors, Ford has released an official, but brief statement. "We meet regularly with other automakers on a variety of topics of mutual interest."

Whoah! Talk about giving away the store! That more or less spells out their game plan for the entire year boys and girls, so don't expect any more surprises from either Ford or Toyota in '07.
