Crysis 3 Beta Kicks Off Next Week

Posted January 24, 2013 - By Adam Rosenberg

Crysis 3 "The Nanosuit" Gameplay Trailer »

Crysis 3 may not hit stores until February 19, 2013, but you'll be able to take it for a test run several weeks early thanks to the launch on January 29 of the game's multiplayer beta. The beta will offer two of the game's eight modes -- Crash Site and Hunter -- and a look at the New York Feed, which EA describes as "a brand new in-game social feed that will showcase the accomplishments of gamers and their friends while offering dynamic challenges to complete."

The beta will run from January 29 through February 12, and it will be available on all platforms that the game is being released for (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC). Electronic Arts and Crytek also released a new Nanosuit trailer that is separate from the beta news, offering an extended look at some of the story-driven campaign's big moments. Check it out up top.

Aliens: Colonial Marines "Kick Ass" Trailer »

I've got two words for you, Aliens fans: power loaders. The latest trailer for Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines at last offers official confirmation that power loaders will be a thing that players can take control of. We had previously seen them pop up in game footage under the command of NPCs and it seemed only natural that they'd be usable, but Gearbox had yet to confirm it.

Well consider it confirmed. Just take a peek at the last few seconds of the trailer for your proof. It looks like they come packing a built-in motion tracker that is always visible in your HUD. Neat-o. Beware though: there's a bit of NSFW language here. Aliens: Colonial Marines hits stores on February 13, 2013.

Injustice: Gods Among Us’ latest cinematic trailer “Versus” peels back the curtain on the game’s story and sheds a little light on the circumstances that made these legendary DC characters confront one another in battle. Batman is brooding (per uzsh) and Superman seems to be taking a lot of responsiblity for... something. Injustice: Gods Among Us is out on April 16th 2013.

Check out “Versus" below:

Which 2 DC characters are you most excited about seeing facing off? Me, I can’t wait for The Flash vs Wonder Woman. Its got all the makings of a fantastic wardrobe malfunction.

BioShock Infinite "Industrial Revolution" Gameplay Trailer »

The latest BioShock Infinite trailer is all about showing off the bonus Industrial Revolution Pack content that comes with pre-ordered copies of the game. More precisely, you get a bunch of gameplay clips interspersed with screens detailing each piece of content.

The Industrial Revolution Pack includes three in-game gear items, a new feature for BioShock that effectively takes over the role of the first game's Gene Tonics. Players will also receive $500 worth of in-game currency, five lock picks to start with (very useful), and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game "which unlocks stories of Columbia and allows players to pledge their allegiance to the Vox Populi or Founders through Facebook."

Just hit play and watch the footage. That's what you're here for.

Capcom's Resident Evil: Revelations isn't going to be exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS for much longer. The publisher confirms that the portable survival horror adventure from 2012 will be coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC platforms on May 21, 2013.

The game will feature improved graphics, and Infernal Mode difficulty, and a new enemy "that changes the tempo of the game in a big way," according to Siliconera. Raid Mode will also return with some added improvements, including new playable characters (Hunk is named specifically), new weapons, and new customizable parts.

Check out the reveal trailer up top for a peek at the HD makeover.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen "The Depths of Darkness" Trailer »

Capcom confirms that Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen will be released on April 23, 2013 in North America. The rehash of the publisher's 2012 open world RPG introduces a number of updates to the game, both to address issues players had with the original release and to add some enhancements that make your return to Gransys worthwhile.

Dark Arisen adds a large new underground realm to the game, with 25 new enemies to encounter there as well as an assortment of new missions. Other new features include the addition of level 3 skills, more than 100 pieces of new high-level equipment, more character/Pawn augments, added equipment enhancement options, and more.

There's more too. Those who already own the original Dragon's Dogma will receive 100,000 Rift Crystals (used to create fast travel markers), unlimited Ferrystones (used to travel to those markers), and the Gransys armor pack. New content will also integrate directly with your old Dragon's Dogma save. Dark Arisen comes to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as a $39.99 physical and digital release this April.

The only thing you need to know going into this trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's Revolution trailer is that it features Peter Stormare and a wood chipper. If the reference doesn't make sense to you, then clearly you need to see Fargo. Go on. We'll all wait.

The trailer is pretty light on gameplay, instead going for funny with the serious, thickly accented Stormare presenting himself as the Replacer, someone who can take over your life while you devote your time to Call of Duty. The birthing scene is the best. Who WOULDN'T want Peter Stormare by there side on such a memorable occasion?

The Revolution DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 comes to Xbox 360 next week on January 29, 2013, with other platforms to follow at an unspecified future date.

BioShock Infinite To Be Preceded By Prequel Novella

BioShock Infinite hits stores on March 26, 2013, but you'll be able to spend some time in Columbia a bit earlier than that thanks to the just-announced prequel novella, BioShock Infinite: Mind in Revolt. The e-book-only release heads to the Amazon Kindle store on February 12, 2013 for $2.99, though it also comes free with Amazon pre-orders of the game.

“Since we first announced BioShock Infinite, our fans have asked for more information about Columbia and the complex cast of characters that inhabit the floating city,” writer Joe Fielder said in a prepared statement. “After reading the e-book, players will have a better understanding of BioShock Infinite’s world, the struggle between its factions, and the motivations of key characters, like rebel leader Daisy Fitzroy, without spoiling the mysteries of BioShock Infinite.”

Sounds cool. Have you locked in a pre-order yet? Will this development get you there?

Dead Space 3 Preview: Frozen Space-Terror Is Better With Friends

As review playthroughs begin for Visceral Games' Dead Space 3, word has emerged that the game continues publisher Electronic Arts' trend of building microtransaction opportunities into its releases. Dead Space 3 does so within the game's new weapon crafting system, with players able to enhance their designs either by seeking out scrap materials or by spending actual dollars, according to Eurogamer.

As associate producer Yara Khoury told the site, "You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace. So you don't have to spend [real world] dollars." There's no word on how much this content will cost, though the news has left some -- such as Destructoid's Jim Sterling -- with a sour taste. Will you pony up real money on top of your $60 purchase for an easier time in the game?

Borderlands 2 Character Customization Packs Incoming

Borderlands 2 just put on a few pounds last week with the release of the Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt DLC, but Gearbox Software has some more content to offer in the form of three new customization packs for all platforms. Each themed pack adds a new head and a new character skin to the game for each class. For the math illiterate out there, that means five new full-body skins per pack, and 15 overall.

The three packs are: Domination, Madness, and Supremacy. You can see the Madness pack in the image up top. Each pack is priced individually at $0.99 (80 MS Points). Unfortunately, there's no package deal here for buying all three. What's more, Season Pass owners: you'll have to buy this content separately if you want the new skins.

Max Payne 3 Deathmatch Made In Heaven DLC Detailed

Rockstar Games revealed last week that Max Payne 3 would be getting its final DLC pack on January 22 -- that's tomorrow -- and now the studio has a rundown of what's there. The Deathmatch Made in Heaven DLC is all about multiplayer, with three new adversarial modes to choose from and the addition of cooperative option in the form of a wave-based survival mode called Dead Men Walking.

On the competitive multiplayer end of the spectrum, your three new modes are Run & Stun, Marked Man, and Time Attack. Marked Man and Time Attack offer variations on the game's Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch modes, respectively, but Run & Stun is an odd one. It's basically a variation on a zombies/infected mode, with one player starting as an overpowered goblin-thing named Saci, who is armed with a stun gun. As Saci takes opposing players out, they switch over to fight for his team.

Deathmatch Made in Heaven comes to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms on January 22, 2013 for $9.99 (800 MS Points).

PlayStation Network Now Allows Users To Pay With PayPal

You can now throw handfuls of digitally transferred cash at PSN content available through the Sony Entertainment Network thanks to newly added support for PayPal (via NeoGAF). It seems that money can only be transferred to your Sony wallet via PayPal via the SEN website for the time being, though don't be surprised if the PlayStation Store follows suit in the near future.

Adding cash to your SEN wallet is a pretty simple process, though you'll need access to a web browser. Sign into PlayStation Store account, click the Manage Account link, then the Account tab at the top of the page. You can access you wallet at the left side of the screen from there. Once you opt to add funds to your wallet, the payment options prompt that follows will now include PayPal.

Simple. Some GAF users are reporting issues with transferring funds via PayPal, though this appears to be a temporary problem. Anyone out there have any luck?

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance may be trading away stealth and lengthy cutscenes for highly technical third-person melee action, but the game will still stay true to the series' penchant for bizarro bosses. A new trailer highlights some of the main villains that Raiden will face off against along with their unique abilities.

Spoiler alert, I suppose, though more in the gameplay sense since there's nothing here that really tips you to what's going on in the story. It helps as well that all of the dialogue is in Japanese. Unless you can understand Japanese, that is. The wait for Raiden's latest solo adventure won't be much longer. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance comes to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 19, 2013.

DualShock Design Reportedly Being Replaced With Next PlayStation

Sony's DualShock controller design was introduced back in the '90s during the era of the original PlayStation, but it looks like it may be going away with the hardware company's next gaming console. The word comes from a "senior games studio source working on an upcoming Sony game" who spoke anonymously on the subject to CVG.

The source claims that Sony's research and development team is testing out new features such as biometric sensors and LCD touch screens. A second unnamed source with connections to Sony claims that the DualShock successor will try to "emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PS Vita." That certainly makes sense, given the increasing presence of second screen play thanks to the Wii U and Xbox SmartGlass.

Sony is widely expected to reveal its PlayStation 3 follow-up in the first half of 2013, an announcement that would presumably include word of any new controller designs as well.

Star Wars 1313

UPDATE: That was fast. LucasArts tells G4 that the posting on Sony's Facebook page is incorrect. As the spokesperson told us, "We have not confirmed any platforms yet for 1313 and do not have any announcements to make at this time." Carry on.

ORIGINAL POST: Break out your salt shakers, gamers, because it's time to dump out a few grains. Sony's official PlayStation Facebook page for Germany has a new post up that seemingly confirms a 2013 PlayStation 3 release for the LucasArts-developed third-person shooter, Star Wars 1313. A bunch of images accompany the text, but all of it seems to be previously released screens and concept art.

LucasArts has said very little to date on Star Wars 1313. The game's E3 reveal offered a brief look at some early, unfinished gameplay; even the main character in the demo wasn't final. A subsequent appearance at Star Wars Celebration in August 2012 simply rehashed the E3 content with a more in-depth look at the design. Needless to say, we've reached out to LucasArts for comment and will update this post accordingly when we hear back.
