The Walking Dead Screenshot Shambles Forth From Telltale Games

Telltale Games saw huge success in 2012 with the release of The Walking Dead as an episodic series, with the game now at more than 8.5 million individual episodes sold since launch. Company CEO Dan Connors shared the data point with the Wall Street Journal in a recent interview, adding that roughly a quarter of those sales are for iOS versions of the game.

The company's biggest sales months for the game were in November and December of last year, thanks largely to the game's first season coming to an end, the end-of-year award accolades, and the conclusion of the first half of the AMC TV series' third season. There's unfortunately no additional word on Telltale's second season plans beyond Connors' brief mention that it is indeed the plan.

Give it up once again for Telltale Games and The Walking Dead. And for those who haven't gotten around to playing it yet: seriously, what are you people thinking? Get on that!

 Fuse

When looking at Insomniac Games’ portfolio, Fuse almost feels like the most natural thing for the studio to come up with in 2013. Announced first as Overstrike at E3 2011, the game’s original feel was as if Insomniac were bringing its shooter experience to the third person with the slick, cartoony tone of Ratchet and Clank along with that series’ emphasis on gadgetry. Since a name change to Fuse, its been given more grit and a serious edge, familiar territory for the creator of the Resistance series.

The key ingredient that Insomniac is counting on is the substance that gives the game its title. An alien substance originally discovered by the U.S. government in the 1940’s, ‘fuse’ has been kept hidden from the public ever since. It seems to be some kind of all-purpose juice that powers up your characters and weapons, making for guns that can create black holes or turn targets into mercury. With a rogue organization named Raven having stolen its source, it’s up to you and your squad of operatives to retrieve it and clean up any messes this rather unstable substance might have made on the loose.

2013 Games Preview: Dead Space 3

Posted January 7, 2013 - By Adam Rosenberg

2013 Games Preview: Dead Space 3Release Date: February 5, 2013

Developer: Visceral Games

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Platform(s): PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows

Necromorphs are bad news, always, but their newly expanded ranks are only one of the worries you'll have to deal with in Visceral Games' Dead Space 3. Isaac Clarke's latest adventure doesn't have to be a solo one, with newcomer Sgt. John Carver coming along for those who play through the story in co-op. It's one of several changes that aim to offer a more accessible Dead Space game for series neophytes.

What We Know:

Dead Space 3 picks up two months after the events of the previous game, with Isaac Clarke being brought in by Sgt. John Carver and his superiors to help investigate a 200-year-old Necromorph infestation on the icy world of Tau Volantis. The Necros were apparently well on their way to destroying everything when the infestation just... stopped. Now it's up to Clarke and Carver to figure out what happened and see if there's anything that can be used to fight the Necromorph threat in the present day.

Razer Reveals Its New Sabretooth Xbox 360 Controller

Razer is back to the Xbox 360 with its latest release, the newly revealed Sabretooth controller. An update of the company's earlier Onza model, the Sabretooth adds some new, more conveniently placed user-mappable buttons and an OLED screen that serves a number of functions.

There are four "bonus" buttons at all, with two placed within reaching distance of the left and right shoulder buttons and the other two positioned on the underside of the gamepad for easy access. The OLED screen can be used to save various button coonfigurations as well as adjust the sensitivity of the two analog sticks (a carryover feature from the Onza).

Also updated is an improved tearaway cable and the D-pad, which amounts to four distinct buttons on the Sabretooth. The new controller carries a premium price tag of $80, though you can knock $10 off of that if you already own an Onza Tournament Edition.

Microsoft Expects More Regular Xbox 360 Updates Going Forward

Microsoft has a new toy to play with in R2 Studios, a Silicon Valley start-up that the company acquired after beating out competing bids from Apple and Google, as the Wall Street Journal reports (via GI.biz). R2 specializes in mobile tech, with a number of patents geared toward pairing portable devices with home media center hardware.

The word is that the patents are what drove Microsoft's decision to buy R2, with the company's employees reportedly being relocated to work with the Xbox team at their Redmond, Washington campus. It's possible that R2 will contribute to the continued development of Xbox SmartGlass, an initiative that will undoubtedly grow in scale when Microsoft enters the eighth generation of gaming hardware.

R2's patents have already been used to give smartphones wireless control over at-home heating and lighting systems. The company was founded in 2011 by Blake Krikorian, a former Amazon board member who also founded Sling Media, the company behind Slingbox.

'BioShock 2' First Impressions

BioShock Infinite hits stores on March 26, 2012, but fans can revisit the previous entries once again well before that with the newly announced BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition. The January 14, 2013-releasing collection packs in BioShock and BioShock 2 along with an assortment of extras.

For starters, you get all DLC from the two games, including the Plasmids Pack (BioShock), the formerly PlayStation 3-exclusive Challenge Rooms Pack (BioShock), Sinclair Solutions Tester (BioShock 2), The Protector Trials (BioShock 2), and, of course, the excellent, story-expanding Minerva's Den (BioShock 2).

The package also includes the Museum of Orphaned Concepts, which amounts to "a tour of a never-before-seen BioShock museum and view early concept art, character models and more set within the halls of Rapture," and a BioShock Infinite sticker pack. All for $40. Not bad, right?

UPDATE: It turns out that there's a bit more to this footage than we originally thought. While the above footage is indeed from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, it's not edited together as an officially released trailer. What you're seeing above is a fan edit of footage that premiered on IGN's Up At Noon last week, as a PR rep explained to Giant Bomb. So don't judge this early look too harshly.

ORIGINAL POST: Later this year, Activision will publish The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, based on the hit AMC TV series, and developer Terminal Reality is kicking off the new year with an early look at some gameplay. The context-free clip montage focuses on highlighting the stealthier side of the game, leaving any nods in the direction of the Dixon brothers-focused story for future previews.

The idea of The Walking Dead as a first-person SHOOTER is alarming if you're a fan of either the comic or the TV series (or both), so showing off this less action-focused material in the debut gameplay trailer is a smart move on Activision's part. Does this footage sell you though? What's your excitement level for Survival Instinct after seeing this footage for the first time?

If you're still ecstatic over the (not terribly surprising) news that Earth Defense Force 2025 will be coming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in North America, then this trailer is for you. It's a few days old, sure, but you may have missed it because of the holidays. Five full minutes of space alien-exploding action with a focus on the coming game's new set of toys.

This is a Japanese trailer, so you probably won't understand a word of what's being said. That doesn't matter. The language of splattering alien bug guts all over a crumbling city is universal, and EDF speaks it so very, very well. There's no release date yet, but Sandlot plans to release EDF 2025 sometime this year.

2013 Games Preview: DmC: Devil May CryRelease Date: January 15, 2013

Developer: Ninja Theory

Publisher: Capcom

Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows (on 1/25)

The son of Sparda is back! Capcom's veteran mercenary and demon hunter is setting out on an all-new adventure in just a few weeks from now, in DmC: Devil May Cry. Ninja Theory, a newcomer to the franchise, is set to deliver a rebooted take on Hideki Kamiya's creation. Early looks at the game have shown a lot of promise, with a combat system that appears to be just as deep and as complex as fans of the series would expect.

What We Know:

DmC: Devil May Cry isn't the sort of full-on reboot that aims to erase the past. Dante's earlier adventures still exist within the series canon while Ninja Theory's tale picks up in a parallel universe. Our younger, shorter-haired Dante kicks off his adventure in Limbo City, an urban landscape that seems normal at first... until the demon overseers that run the place start sending all manner of nasty critters off to kill Dante.

Pre-orders are now open for NECA's beautiful Skyhook replica from BioShock Infinite. The handheld device is the first weapon you receive in the game, also doubling as a tool used to zip between the floating islands of Columbia along an elaborate rail system. The replica won't allow you to do any of that, but it's still really sweet.

Customers in the United States can place their pre-orders now for the $79.99 item, according to the official Facebook page (via MTV Multiplayer). You can see the thing in action in the video above. NECA is the same company behind the Portal gun replica, as you probably know. Expect this item to disappear just as quickly.

Minecraft v1.3 Arrives On August 1

4J Studios received an extra-special New Year's Eve treat last week when Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition surpassed the 5 million sales marker on December 31, 2012. The studio revealed the news on its Twitter feed, giving fans yet another reason to be immensely proud of the little indie PC game that could.

The work that the UK studio put in on its console refresh of Mojang's world-building game over the latter half of 2012 was nothing less than impressive. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was released on May 9, and 4J was able to push out a total of seven significant, content-enhancing title updates before the year turned.

The best is yet to come too, based on what we've heard from 4J chief Paddy Burns. Minecraft on Xbox 360 is not seen as a port, and you can expect 4J to start trying out some new ideas for the game in 2013. Just check out our interview from late-summer of last year for a few hints.

Tomb Raider

The rumors are true: Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot will include a multiplayer mode for the first time in the life of the franchise. The news is confirmed by OXM US, with the next issue's cover story focusing entirely on how this new feature fits into the game.

The earlier rumor described a team-based setup that pits Lara Croft's fellow shipwreck survivors against "Yamatai's scavengers" in "a variety of modes." We now know that the multiplayer content is the work of Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The rest of the details will follow when the latest issue of OXM hits newsstands on January 8. Tomb Raider arrives two months later, on March 5, 2013.

Black Ops 2 'Revolution' DLC May Have Been Outed

You might have missed this if you were caught up in New Year's Eve revelry: the first DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, called Revolution, will reportedly arrive on January 29, 2013. Activision has yet to confirm anything officially, but a Reddit user shared what appears to be some real-deal promo art, as you can see above.

Assuming the posted image is accurate, it looks like Revolution will add four new multiplayer maps (Hydro, Downhill, Grind, Mirage), a new zombie map, and -- in a series first for DLC, a new weapon, the Peacekeeper SMG. The title of the zombie map -- Die Rise -- appears to be a play on the title of the World at War Zombies map, Der Reise.

It's not official until Activision confirms it of course, but late-January certainly seems like the right time for the latest Call of Duty game's first DLC.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Story Trailer »

You've surely heard by now that Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines delivers a story that franchise rights-holder 20th Century Fox regards as official canon. The setup for that story is laid bare in a newly released trailer which is light on gameplay and heavy on exposition.

Colonial Marines is effectively a direct sequel to the events of Aliens, picking up not long after the events of Alien 3. A search and rescue force sent to investigate the U.S.S. Sulaco steps into the aftermath of a Xenomorph bloodbath, both aboard the ship and on the surface of LV-426. The new trailer features lots of nods for franchise fans, so give it a look.

Dead Space 3

Electronic Arts and Visceral Games will be giving Dead Space 3 fans a chance to try the game early with a playable demo that will launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms next month. The official release date is January 22, 2012, just a few weeks short of the game's February 5 launch.

You've got options though. Those who would like to take an earlier crack at the demo -- on Xbox 360 only, unfortunately -- can do so by browsing over to demo.deadspace.com and following the directions there. It's easy; you just need to provide your birthday and sign in from there to your Origin account. You'll then be sent a download code that will allow you to access the demo a full week early.
