Assassin's Creed Anthology Outed, Confirmed By Ubisoft

UPDATE: Ubisoft now confirms that, for the time being at least, the Assassin's Creed Anthology Edition is exclusive to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (via Joystiq). The late November release date from the Amazon France listing appears to be accurate, as does the pricing.

ORIGINAL POST: Assassin's Creed 3's status as the marquee release last week does little good for those who have never sampled Ubisoft's series, and that's probably why the publisher is planning to release the Assassin's Creed Anthology Edition. First spotted on Amazon France (via Eurogamer) and later confirmed by Ubi, the collection gathers every console game in the series into a single box.

That means: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and, of course, Assassin's Creed 3, along with all previously released DLC. Given the completeness of the set, it's certainly possible that a Season Pass for Assassin's Creed 3 will be included as well; Ubisoft tells Eurogamer that a formal announcement will be coming later this week.

The Amazon France product listing pegs the price at 150 Euros (slightly less than $200) and the release for November 29, 2012. Just keep in mind that Ubisoft merely confirmed the existence of this collection based on a product listing in Europe; there's no confirmation yet that a North American release is planned.

Video Kinect's Body Tracking & Video Shared Viewing

A newly discovered patent filing from Microsoft could potentially turn your Kinect camera into a remote monitoring device that would allow for the regulation of license-restricted content (via Eurogamer). According to patent application #20120278904, "the users consuming [individually licensed] content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken."

In simpler terms, if you pay for, say, a movie rental on Xbox Live that is technically limited to your eyes only, this monitoring system could use a TV-connected camera, such as your Kinect, to see if anyone else is watching with you. Big brother might not be watching, but Microsoft certainly could be at some future date.

Now just because a patent application is filed, that doesn't mean it will be approved. Similarly, an approved patent may ultimately go no further than the R&D stage. This news doesn't automatically translate to "OMG MY XBOX IS WATCHING ME," but it's definitely something that should be of interest to folks who prefer to maintain their privacy. At last count, that amounts to roughly everyone.

WWE '13 Verdict: A Blow To The Head

WWE '13 Video Review »

WWE '13 is the latest game that lets you step in to the ring as your favorite WWE superstars. There are new modes, like Attitude Era mode, which allows you relive the good 'ol days of iconic characters. Plus, the customization is great. But ultimately, we found that at its core, WWE '13's gameplay just isn't enjoyable.

From our WWE '13 review:

Defensive moves remain similarly lacking. A command will flash on the screen in the split-second you can actually reverse an opponent’s move, but if you miss that, buckle up. Sometimes missing this one ridiculously short command will give your opponent time to complete a 15 second combo while you simply sit back and watch. From a spectator’s perspective, this might seem great, but when actually playing the game, it’s insanely obnoxious. Perhaps the most frustrating part is the fact that all of these missteps existed in last year’s iteration, and almost nothing was done to correct them.

Microsoft Rolls Out New Logo

The Xbox Surface, a 7-inch gaming tablet created by Microsoft, is reportedly in development. According to The Verge, Microsoft has already reached the initial hardware planning stage for the device, which won’t run Windows 8 or Windows RT like the Microsoft Surface, but a custom Windows kernel that focuses on gaming.

As for specs, the Xbox Surface will allegedly be equipped with a  720p HD display, an ARM-based TI CPU and a 28-nanometer AMD graphics processor.

Unfortunately, Microsoft is keeping mum on whether or not they're working on the Xbox Surface, but as we get more details we'll be sure to share them.

Starting on November 21, 2012, Israelis will be able to purchase fully localized Xbox 360 consoles in their home country, complete with Hebrew language settings and phone support (via NeoGAF). Xbox Live Marketplace store items will also be listed using local currency.

The Xbox 360 hasn't been completely absent in Israel for the past seven years, but it has previously only been purchasable as a gray market item. That comes to an end on November 21, as revealed at a Microsoft event in Israel mere moments before Master Chief (or, more likely, a costumed actor) encouraged gamers to jump on Halo 4 instead of wasting their time on "girly games."

Er... yeah. Perhaps something was lost in the translation. Also, maybe it's just me, but doesn't Master Chief's exit sound sort of... threatening? "See you soon, Israelis. See you soon, Israelis."

David Fincher And Tim Miller Working On Halo 4

Halo 4 is now available now in the U.S. exclusively for the Xbox 360. The mega blockbuster, developed by 343 Industries, marks the return of Master Chief and introduces a new threat to the series while progressing the franchise's next-level multiplayer.

Here's a snippet from our Halo 4 review.

"The new Promethean enemies – and their arsenal of killing tools – adds an improved layer of strategic depth that was lacking in the blunt-force approach taken with the Flood of previous games. The Forerunner world's guardians embrace a similar philosophy of sending an overwhelming force after the player, but there's more variation within their ranks, making for a much more interesting enemy to fight."

Additionally, we have a ton of other Halo 4 content that will help you decide whether or not you should pick up the game.

Dead Island: Riptide's Fifth Playable Character Revealed

The name of the fifth playable character in Dead Island: Riptide is John Morgan, Techland confirms in a press release. Morgan joins the 2011 game's returning cast of four characters in the sequel, bringing along a whole new set of skills that ought to fit in nicely alongside the talents of the original quartet.

This new character is basically Steven Seagal's Casey Ryback character from the classic 1992 film Under Siege. By that I mean he's a U.S. Navy cook with a knack for hand-to-hand combat and pissing off Gary Busey. Okay, maybe not so much that second bit, but how badass would it be if Gary Busey suddenly showed up in Riptide as a cross-dressing madman?

Deep Silver has the likely Gary Busey-less Dead Island: Riptide set to hit stores on April 23, 2013.

Halo 4 Life-Size Warthog Video

Posted November 5, 2012 - By Nikole Zivalich

To get ready for Halo 4, X-Play sent Tiffany Smith to the  Aria Group to get a behind-the-scenes look at the life-size Halo 4 Warthog. Why did 343 commission a life-size, street legal, replica of Master Cheif's choice ride? Because they could. 343's Kiki Wolfkill and Frank O'Connor were on hand to make sure this Warthog was legit.
