Tech Interview: Kodak Touchscreen Camera

Touchscreens are the new hotness and Kodak is offering up a new digital camera that boasts one.

The Kodak V1273 Digital Camera is 12-megapixels and will launch in March for $280.

Tech Interview: D-Link Gaming Router

So imagine you're sitting in your apartment, playing Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live or the Playstation Network and kicking major ass. Then all of a sudden, the screen gets choppy, enemy players are jumping around, and your lag bar goes red. So you go see what your roommate is doing, and it turns out he's downloading the entire 2nd season of Mad About You.

Now, besides liking bad TV, your roommate is killing your gaming experience. So what do you do? You go get the D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router, which automatically detects what connections are being used for playing games, and gives them priority. So while your roommate will have to wait a little longer for Paul Reiser, you can go back to dominating 12 year olds.

CES 2008: Alienware m15x Gaming Laptop

Where Apple strives to make things sleeker and smaller, Alienware takes it the other way and loads their machines with as much computing power as they can fit. Enter the Area-51 m15x.

Alienware's Brian DeZayas tells us about the laptop and shows off some of the cool customization features.

This 15" notebook is the first to feature an Intel Core2Extreme processor along along with a GeForce 8000 series video card for all that DX10 goodness. It also sports a SmartBay that can hold an extra hard-drive, DVD/Blu-Ray, or even an extra battery.

Editor's note: At the time of publication, the $1499 laptop mentioned in the interview is not yet available, but listed as "Coming Soon" on Alienware's website.

CES 08: Blu-Ray Overview

At this year's CES, the war between HD Disc formats heated up. With Warner Bros. announcement of Blu-Ray exclusivity right before the convnetion, HDDVD canceled their presentation, which prompted a lot of people to project they've lost the battle and maybe the war.

Anthony Jasionowski, Group Leader from Panasonic, gave us a short overview or Blu-Ray technology, player prices, and what they're looking forward to in the future of high definition home theater. Check it out.

CES 2008: Sony OLED TV Interview

Want Microsoft to keep supporting Windows XP after June 30, 2008? You'd better hurry up and add your name (and personal contact information) to an online petition to stop Bill from pulling the plug on XP!

Online petitions are probably the best way to accomplish goals*.

In only 36 hours since being posted, the petition has snagged 12,621 e-signatures. The only other petition to grow faster was titled, "Declare Caturday Official!"

Panasonic's New EVOLTA Battery

It seems to be battery news day in the tech world. Panasonic has announced a new line of alkaline batteries that should last 1.3 to 2 times longer than the current ones.

The EVOLTAs should release on April 26th and will carry at 15% price increase over the standard AA batteries. Sounds like a perfect product for Wiimotes and 360 controllers.

CES 2008: Alienware Curved Monitor Interview

One of the coolest things we saw at CES 2008 was Alienware's curved monitor prototype that hopes to finally address the issues of peripheral vision in games.

The monitor is equivalent to two 24" LCDs and looks amazing running Crysis.

WB Got Payout From Blu-Ray?

As you all know, Warner Brothers went Blu-Ray, but rumor has it that the WB was rewarded with a fat stack ($500 million!!) of cash money for their choice.

The story goes like this: Warner was seeing its DVD sales slump because of the format war and wanted to end it quickly. They preferred HD-DVD, but going Blu would end it sooner. They gave Toshiba a chance if they could get another Blu-Ray studio to switch.

FOX was apparently lined up, but dropped at the last minute due to a reported $120 million payout by Sony.

This lead Warner to go Blu-Ray as well. If true, this is $620 million of payouts by Sony.

Tough luck, Toshiba. You win this game with your checkbook, not lower prices.

Wii-Like Advertising Coming

Reactrix Systems showed off some Wii-like advertising tech called WaveScape at CES last week and they plan to roll it out soon to 150 Hilton hotels.

The sytems will provide mini-games that can advertise hotel features at the same time. They claim that the mini-games can be finished in a matter of weeks and that the games are extremely simple to produce.

They claim it's Wii-like, but we think it's Vii-like.

There are no current plans for a consumer release, but look for Wii fever to hit advertising soon.
