The MMO Report: Thursday, May 8th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Thursday, May 08, 2008 2:24 PM
This week's edition of the MMO Report is very special. We'd like to tell you why, but it's much better to be surprised, don't you think? I'll give you a hint, it has something to do with Casey's favorite activity. No, not that one, the other one.
The stories in this episode range from news about the forthcoming Champions Online, to Codemasters expanding their business, to how the LEGO Universe economy will function. Hopefully well, we all know how unstable those LEGO financial institutions are. One swift kick from your older brother and the entire infrastructure comes tumbling down, and I'd rather not have to deal with bailing out LEGO Bear Stearns.
So check the numbers, look to the future, and admit you've lost (you know who you are). This is...

The MMO Report: Thursday, May 1st
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Thursday, May 01, 2008 5:22 PM
So guess what? Last week we put up The MMO Report on Thursday instead of Friday, and we got more hits. So, big surprise, we're gonna do it again! And again and again! Until we get a million viewers. And then we'll run for congress.
Until then, please do enjoy this week's installment of Casey's knowledge, lulz, and sex appeal. We'll discuss Lord of the Rings Online's first year in the open, what exactly happened to the Pirates of the Burning Sea servers that were put to sleep, and we introduce a new segment in our show that's sure to tickle your internet funny bone. No, not that one, that would cost extra.
So put down GTAIV for 7 minutes, peel your sticky thighs off the couch, and watch this charming bit of internet and gaming culture. This is...

The MMO Report: Thursday, April 24th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Thursday, April 24, 2008 4:31 PM
This week you may notice something a little different. No, I'm not talking about the hair you're noticing in places where there was no hair before. I'm talking about the fact that The MMO Report has let the balloon go up one day early. That means more raiding time, extra grinding, and an additional full day's worth of lulz.
In this episode you all get a special treat; some sneaky bastard was able to leak stills of Wrath of the Lich King onto the internet for your viewing pleasure. Yes, that Wrath of the Lich King. It's in the Alpha stage of development right now, which means you don't get to play it yet. Also, we'll give you a fair warning about Square-Enix's new user agreement for Playonline. Check your attic for chocobos watching you masturbate. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, April 18th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, April 18, 2008 11:14 AM
Since we spent this week's episode schooling you on your roots, we decided to make sure you still had your weekly dose of MMO news. I mean come on, what would you do without us?
Realtime Worlds confirms their open-world MMO A.P.B. will be released in 2009. Why do I have a feeling no one will want to play as a cop?
Chunks Ahoy discovered a way to alter how food will effect you in World of Warcraft. I knew it was only a matter of time before the Tauren women resorted to bulimia.
Jumpgate: Evolution is trying to get your attention in the very first fifteen minutes of the game. Unless that means non-stop decapitations and running naked strippers, I'm not interested.
World of Warcraft China announced they reached a milestone of one million players logged on at one time. As it turns out, one million Chinese CAN be wrong.
GameSpot partners with Funcom to allow their members to compete in a PvP weekend on the Age of Conan beta servers. You already missed the registration date, so go hit your little brother with a battle axe all day instead.
Chronicles of Spellborn has been pushed back to a release window of Fall 2008. But they gave you some pretty screenshots to make up for it, so quit bitching.
Don't say we never gave you nothin'. Now go watch the D&D special again.

The MMO Report: 4th Edition D&D Special
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, April 18, 2008 11:12 AM
This week, we have a very special treat for you, our dedicated fans. Casey is something of a Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast, as you may have seen in his review of the 4th Edition ruleset he got to play a while back. Well this week we take you even deeper into the dark, lightless cave for an in-depth look at the 4th Edition, as well as the new online component, D&D Insider.
Why is this such a big deal? Well first of all, if you play MMOs then you must have history, if not at least appreciation for Dungeons and Dragons. None of the games we play today would exist without the meager beginings of pencil and paper and 20 sided die. Second, we got some exclusives in this interview. Not only are we the first media outlet to get confirmation of the first 8 classes in the new 4th Edition, but we also squeezed out a few classes that will be in the Second Player's Handbook that's releasing next year. Oh yeah, we're just that good. You won't find this in-depth coverage anywhere else.
But don't worry, we still got you covered on MMO news. Check out the stories we would have talked about this week right here.
So clear off the kitchen table, pull your chainmail out of the closet, and unsheath your +20 broadsword. This is...
a very special MMO Report.

The MMO Report: Friday, April 11th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, April 11, 2008 11:42 AM
We hope you all enjoyed John Walsh guest hosting last week as much as we did. That man is a rare talent. But because we know you missed him, Casey's back and with a very special treat.
You see, there was a large amount of news coming from Second Life this week. So much so, that we decided to go all out and give you what you want; more WTF Second Life. We know it's one of your favorite segments, you know Casey loves to say WTF Second Life, and everyone knows there's nothing more amusing than Unicorn rape. We covered some other stories too, like the announcement of the next City of Heroes expansion, and Eve Online adding character models and interiors to their game, but does that really compare to playing as a Fox-humanoid furry that can fly as well as have realistic sexual encounters with digital representations of actual people? I didn't think so. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, April 4th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, April 04, 2008 11:50 AM
Our fearless leader has once again taken a short leave of absence. Casey is already back amongst the living, but for now you all have the unique oppertunity to enjoy the genius that is John Walsh for the second time. A Jeopardy winner and creator of the world famous publication Black Jugs, John Walsh has graced us with his literary gifts and comedic slapstick, and we couldn't be more pleased.
This week John gives you a rundown of our favorite MMO April Fools Jokes from this week, we tell you of a rumor about a possible Bioshock MMO, who Blizzard is sueing this time, and everyone's favorite segment, WTF Second Life. We suggest you properly prepare yourself for the Walsh Experience by covering your monitor with plastic to prevent damage from spit takes. It's like a Gallagher concert, but with less sadness. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, March 28th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, March 28, 2008 11:55 AM
These days when everyone's talking about preachers and racial relations, sniper fire and people misspeaking thanks to sleep deprivation, wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. Or as least your armor specs and dps.
This week brings us news of delays, patches, betas, and philosophical rhetoric. You know we love it when game developers, college professors and lawyers discuss the merits of the metaverse. It makes us feel validated and important.
We've also decided to throw down the gauntlet and challenge you all to close World of Warcraft and open Photoshop. You have the opportunity to design the next coffee mug you will see on the MMO Report News Desk. Like Casey said, all files must be in JPEG or PNG format and e-mailed to TheMMOReport@g4tv.com. Go ahead, impress us. Because after all, this is...

The MMO Report: Friday, March 21
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, March 21, 2008 12:32 PM
Today is a special day. Today is the day that our lord died for our sins. But there's another reason why today is such an important day. Today, you will learn about the 4th Edition Rule Set of Dungeons and Dragons from the one and only Casey Schreiner.
Some of you may not understand the importance of this dice-based table-top game. Some of you may be thinking "Hey, I play video games. I'm not THAT much of a loser". To which we would reply "Yes, yes you are. Because D&D is ultimate awesome." And to those of you who have love for the game that started it all, you're about to have your mind blown.
So sharpen your pencils, clear off the kitchen table, and warm up your dice-throwing hand. This is...

This week on the MMO Report, we're going to do things a little different. One of our fans sent us the most amazing e-mail, we wanted to use it as this week's introduction. However, it's a bit long, so you'll have to click the "Read More" link below in order to discover it's majesty.
Sable, you win.
This is the MMO Report.
Send your best attempt at an epic viewer mail to TheMMOReport@g4tv.com

The MMO Report: Friday, March 7th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, March 07, 2008 12:16 PM
You asked for it, and we delivered.
Ladies and gentlemen, this week the MMO Report returns with everyone's favorite segment, WTF Second Life. The recent unexplained absence of our small corner of online gaming delinquency has echoed through many cubicles and basements across this great nation, and we have answered the call for its return.
But it's not all fun and games. Well, it mostly is, but this week we lost Gary Gygax, the co-creator of the original Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game. For his contribution to the nerd community, we would like to dedicate this week's MMO Report to Gygax and his family. See that 20-sided die on the news desk? That one's for you brother.
So pull up a chair, grab your pen and paper, and tell the DM his dungeons are too repetitive. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, February 29th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, February 29, 2008 11:47 AM
Today doesn't exist.
I'm sure you've heard it all before, but today, on this day, we have entered a paradox of epic proportions. Right now we're on the cusp of time, neither standing in one month or another. Kind of like how Washington D.C. isn't really in the United States. But now we're debating semantics, and we both know you can't win that argument.
So this week we bring you more MMO news, both good and bad, with some still coming from last week's Game Developer's Conference. Plus Casey gets a little personal and answers some of your emails personally on air. Just don't expect to get that kind of special treatment again, everybody gets one.
So mute your VHS copy of Krull, put whatever game you're playing to sleep, and clean out your ears with some cotton swabs so you can hear Casey loud and clear. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, February 22nd
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, February 22, 2008 12:04 PM
Through the clouds and rain covering southern California these days, The MMO Report breaks through like a blinding ray of sunshine in your otherwise dark and dreary life. But don't worry, we'll have you back to the dreary soon enough.
This week we begin our discussions coming out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, a yearly collection of boring speaches given about programing topics and simulation engines. Now, while that may sound about as exciting as a weekend with your Uncle Sol who spent 3 semesters studying primate biology at the community college, those are actually the nuts and bolts that act as the inner clockwork of the games we play. Bottom line, it's a good thing.
But out of all of that, we got a sizable amount of new announcements and footage from this year's GDC, and we're happy to pass it forward. And even happier to point and laugh. It's what we do.
So stoke the fire, warm up the cocoa, and settle into your most comfortable chair. This is...

The MMO Report: Friday, February 15th
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, February 15, 2008 11:44 AM
This week we saw the celebration of all things consumer based: Valentine's Day.
While I'm sure most of you did not drop large amounts of cash on chocolate, jewelry, and flowers, we're here to tell you where your money SHOULD be spent; monthly subscription fees for online video games. I think we all know the only love we really need comes from our fellow Guild Members and especially friendly NPCs, so allow us to be your shepherd through the field of massively multiplayer online lovin'.
Also, did anyone else watch that Saint Valentine's Day Massacre special on the History Channel last night? Brutal!
So snuggle up with someone special (your computer), bring down the lights (your monitor), and take the phone (your headset) off the hook, it's time to get down to business. This is...
