Iron Man 3: New Photos Released

Iron Man 3: New Photos Released
("Suck it, Steve Rogers.")

Marvel has officially released 4 new photos from Iron Man 3, the next entry on deck for the array of films in their Avengers saga, hitting May 3, 2013.

While each of these images were taken from the spectacular debut trailer that hit last month, they do serve to bring some things to focus that were largely ignored; Namely Rebecca Hall's character of Maya Hansen; one of the scientists who, along with Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), develop the "Extremis" nano-virus, which will become a critical point in the film's plot, causing carnage, but also giving Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark a HUGE boost to his tech.

Besides that, we also have another good look at the "Iron Patriot" armor that James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) will sport in the film, as well as a few snapshots of the hard times that await Tony in this third solo outing.

Check out the rest of the pics below!

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Who Will Lead?

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are currently in the process of looking for someone to cast as their team leader, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.

According to Deadline, that search has been narrowed down to a short list of five candidates for the coveted role the Marvel's Comics' interplanetary policeman:

(Pictured left to right) Joel Edgerton (Warrior, The Thing,) Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables, The Pillars of the Earth,) Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Eastwick,) Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas, The Way Back,) and Lee Pace (The Hobbit Trilogy, Pushing Daisies.)

Additionally, another crop of names is reportedly floating around for the choice of a proper protagonist for this cosmic curiosity of a Marvel comic book adaptation.

X-Men: Days Of Future To Add Wolverine?

It appears that the new X-Men cast could be getting a bit of adamantium-aligned backup.

Hugh Jackman is reportedly in talks to appear as Wolverine in the upcoming prequel-sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past for what would be (after next summer's The Wolverine,) his sixth time in the X-Men film franchise. (The seventh if you count his cameo in X-Men: First Class.)

Only a few days after learning that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart would be returning in the film to reprise their roles, respectively as Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier, it should hardly come as a huge shock that Fox would be working on ways to wrangle in the franchise's most popular and iconic character.

What will this mean for Days of Future Past?

S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series Adds New Agent

Actor, Brett Dalton may still be a relatively unknown newcomer, but nevertheless, it appears that he's ready to suit up with the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the upcoming spinoff TV series of the Marvel films to help defend the planet from various baddies.

It is being reported that Dalton has been cast as a character named "Agent Grant Ward," who will be joining the existing cast of Ming-Na Wen as "Agent Melinda May," Elizabeth Henstridge as "Agent Gemma Simmons," Iain De Caestecker as "Agent Leo Fitz," and, lest anyone forget the main event, Clark Gregg returning to the franchise as "Agent Phil Coulson."

Dalton will be bringing somewhat of a thin resume to the show with only a few notable appearances on TV's Blue Bloods, Army Wives, and the upcoming TV movie, Killing Lincoln. However, he will be filling the role of a potential scene-stealer in Agent Ward, who has been described in casting details as quiet, temperamental, anti-social, but cool under fire; "the kind of guy that grows on you." (Could he be the Daryl Dixon of S.H.I.E.L.D.?)

Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. is reportedly set to begin production (...okay, "assemble") in January.

Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars Concept Artist Passes Away

Matthew Vaughn, the director of X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, may in fact be the one pegged to direct Star Wars: Episode 7, which Lucasfilm owner Disney (yup, still weird) has set for a 2015 release. Vaughn was previously rumored to have gotten the gig, but recent comments from a longtime colleague and friend of the filmmaker suggest that the rumor is legit.

Actor Jason Flemyng let slip that Vaughn will helm Star Wars while walking the "green carpet" press line for 7 Psychopaths in an interview with @DIYTV (via AICN). Flemyng is an accomplished and talented actor who has appeared in all of Vaughn's films, most memorably joining the massive ensemble in X-Men: First Class as Nightcrawler's future papa Azazel. If anyone really knows what Vaughn is up to, it's this guy.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Get Ian McKellen And Patrick Stewart

It appears that X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming sequel to last year's X-Men: First Class, will be adding some familiar faces to the "sort-of rebooted" franchise.

It is being reported that Ian McKellen will return to don his helmet and cause metallic carnage as Magneto and that Patrick Stewart will also get ready to polish his wheelchair and practice his "mind-reading face" before once again becoming Professor Charles Xavier.

Some moviegoers may be scratching their heads at this revelation since those characters were portrayed by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy respectively in First Class. However, the time-traveling aspects of the famous "Days of Future Past" comic book storyline on which the film will be based has created a unique opening allowing the film to give us the best of both worlds. (*Not a Star Trek: The Next Generation reference.)

What could be in store for fans of all things mutant?

Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection Blu-ray Box Set Review

Looking for the perfect gift for that cinefile and/ or horror movie fan on your holiday list? Look no further than Universal’s impressive Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection box set that was released on Blu-ray earlier this year. This collection includes all the iconic Universal monster movies that shaped the American horror genre; Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Wolf Man (1941), Phantom of the Opera (1943), and Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954). For the first time ever each film is presented in digitally restored 1080p High-Definition picture and DTS-HD Master Audio. Each film’s native aspect ratio (Full Frame 1:33:1 for all films other than Black Lagoon which was shot in Widescreen 1:85:1) and original audio format (2.0 Mono) is preserved and they all look and sound spectacular on Blu-ray.

I consider myself a fairly huge horror movie buff and I’d previously seen all these films multiple times on VHS, DVD, and even projected at 2nd run theaters. However, seeing these movies in digitally restored 1080p was, at the risk of sounding cliché, like seeing them for the first time. This box set is one of the best restoration jobs I’ve ever seen (and maybe the best black and white restorations currently available).

As anyone who watches The Walking Dead realizes, a good melee weapon goes a long way in sticky situations and can make the difference between survival and ending up the main course of a human buffet line.

While Michonne's famous katana has managed to do the trick thus far, it pales in comparison to wielding a whooshing, luminescent "elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

Sure, a stickler might point out that blood would not be spewing from those walkers since the wounds would have cauterized if she was really using a lightsaber. However, it turns out she was swinging it so fast that she startled the laws of physics, causing a ripple in the universe.

So, that explains...that.

Star Trek Into The Darkness: Plot Officially Revealed

The upcoming sequel to director, J.J. Abrams' intensified, sexified reboot, Star Trek Into Darkness finally has some light shed on its mysterious plot thanks to an official press release by Paramount.

This time, it's not about rebellion, finding your place in the world, and fighting planet-destroying time-travelers, among other things most people do when coming to adulthood. Nope, this time, for Chris Pine's Captain James Tiberius Kirk, the battle comes home and it's personal!

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Of course, like any good bit of movie news teeming with rabid fan speculation, the revelation is predictably ambiguous, leaving us all with even more questions.

As the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey looms ever closer, a new production video has hit giving us some insight into the production's nerve-wracking, hair-pulling last-minute rush to complete the film mere days before its initial release.

The video blogs posted by director, Peter Jackson have been satiating fans jonesing for some Shire action with a side of Lembas bread since the production of the film trilogy began in early 2011. While the film is set to hit the production's native country of New Zealand in just a few days on November 28, non-Kiwi fans still have a little while to go until the wide release on December 14. Thus, there's plenty of useful goodies for those who won't get to see the film for nearly three long weeks.

Until then, enjoy the latest entry into Peter Jackson's behind-the-scenes odyssey featuring a few new tidbits like footage of giant dwarf-eating trolls speaking with cockney accents, gratuitous goblin-ganking, and the fascinating fundamentals of digital beard mechanics.
