Beenox has done some cool things with the Spider-Man license over the course of two mostly linear and narrative-driven action games, Shattered Dimensions and last year's Edge of Time. The studio's next dance with the web-slinger will instead be taking a page from the book written by Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch. Spidey is returning to an open world in the Beenox-developed movie tie-in, The Amazing Spider-Man, due for release this summer.

We've only seen tiny bits of the game so far, but those who want to know more should probably tune in at the game's Facebook page. Fan questions are being answered, and new facts are emerging. We already knew about the open world and most of us probably figured that it would feature "side missions, challenges and mini-games." The most recent question reveals a new game mechanic called Web Rush.

Help, Support And Money Wanted For Indie Game: The Movie

It is extremely appropriate that Indie Game: The Movie debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, given the number of parallels there are between filmmaking and creating indie games. Both require very small teams to work together with limited funding in order to create something that might never see an audience when it is finished.

Luckily, the film made quite an impact at Sundance, resonating with audiences and with buys. After the snow storms cleared, HBO and producer Scott Rudin announced it had picked up the film in order toturn it into a scripted series for the channel. At surface value, it seems like an odd choice for HBO, as there is plenty of documentary style material in the indie game space to create a documentary showabout indie gaming.

Ace Attorney Film Cast Photos -- We Don't Object

I don't know about you all, but I've been keeping a close eye on Takashi Miike's film adaptation of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Miike is probably best known by gamer-folk for his work on deeply disturbing thriller/horrors like Audition and Ichi the Killer, but he's always had a soft spot for lighter fare as well. His game adaptation, titled Ace Attorney, screened just last week at the Internation Film Festival Rotterdam and it was followed by a Q&A with the maestro himself.

Miike revealed to the crowd that a worldwide release is planned for Ace Attorney, and that the subtitles and dubs in each region will be tailored to match the in-game character names for those regions, TwitchFilm reports. The movie's running time clocks in at around two and a half hours. Bear in mind, however, that this was a world premiere festival screening, so edits may be coming. Twitch also has a review of the film up if you're curious, though you'll want to avoid it if you hope to stay spoiler-free.

Then again, those who played the first game in the series shouldn't have to worry too much; Ace Attorney follows the story laid out in that initial game's first five court cases.

Indie Game: The Movie Trailer »

If you're in any way connected to the larger world of gaming outside your controller or mouse/keyboard then you've probably already heard about Indie Game: The Movie from Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky. The documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT on Saturday, garnering plenty of praise and picking up more than a few high-profile fans.

Among those fans are cable network HBO and producer Scott Rudin (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network), who nabbed the remake rights for Indie Game with a plan to "develop the film as a fictional half-hour comedy series," according to Deadline. Before you start waving your pitchforks at the thought of yet another great Gaming Thing being perverted by Hollywood, note that the film's Facebook page was updated yesterday with a clarification.

"HBO has optioned IGTM for the basis of a (fictional) series. It is NOT a comedy. It is NOT a sitcom," Pajot and Swirsky write. It seems that HBO's half-hour series development is synonymous with the word "comedy," and that's where the sitcom angle came from. You can read about the error in more detail at the movie's Facebook page.

This does look like it has potential - and as far as HBO doing something, I think they should use the opportunity to see this movie as a snapshot and run with the same concept from several different angles of current indie game development, now that we have seen what the people in this movie have done.

It can reveal the rapid, innovative evolution of the indie game developers - which is as bleeding-edge as it comes.

Ace Attorney Film Cast Photos -- We Don't Object

New pictures from Takashi Miike's Ace Attorney movie prove this film may be guilty...of being an accurate adaption of the Capcom series. Eiga posted a handful of pictures from the set for you to feast your eyes on. The pictures show some of the cast in all their hair-gelled glory. Ace Attorney will be released in Japan this February. Personally, I think Miles Edgeworth has the best hair.

Check out all of the Ace Attorney pictures from set.

Parodies of movies and TV shows are certainly nothing new in the adult film industry, with such classics as "The Horneymooners" and "Edward Penishands" to the more current (and less cleverly-titled) "This Ain't Ghostbusters XXX" springing to mind.  With the well of pop culture properties running dry, Exquisite Films is mining a whole new genre ripe for parody: Video Games.  Yes, the company who showed us what really happens inside the "American Dad" family residence (Yep, Roger the Alien gets some) is now in the heat of production on "Tomb Raider XXX: An Exquisite Films Parody."

Fans of the iconic video game heroine Lara Croft who were left wanting with Angelina Jolie's take on the character will be happy to know that director Jordan Septo ("Saturday Night Fever XXX") has drawn his inspiration from the games themselves.  "We're trying to be true to the game," says the veteran of countless porn parodies.  "Our storyline mirrors the first game."
