Help, Support And Money Wanted For Indie Game: The Movie

The popular video game documentary Indie Game: The Movie will be available for purchase on digital platforms starting June 12, 2012, the official website confirms. In addition to being able to purchase the movie directly through the website, fans will also have the option of snatching it from either iTunes or Steam. Yes. Steam. No matter where you buy it, you'll be paying $9.99.

Pre-orders are already open for DVD and Blu-ray versions, though there's no set release date yet for these. A response on the official website to a reader comment indicates that boxed copies of the film should mail out soon after the digital launch, possibly sometime in July, but the physical copies still need to be designed and manufactured.

For those who aren't familiar, you should definitely check out our Indie Game: The Movie review. It's a solid piece of filmmaking that offers a deep-dive inside look into the world of indie development.

Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Bonus Content Announced

According to Deadline, Josh Trank has signed with Sony Pictures to develop and direct a Shadow Of The Colossus movie. It's planned as a large-scale, live-action adaptation of the PS2 Sony video game. Trank, who directed Chronicle, says he's a fan of the game, and sought out the project. He'll work on the movie with producer Kevin Misher and executives Andy Berman and Kevin Chang.

This isn't the only big movie Trank has in the works. He's also developing two Marvel superhero franchises: Fantastic Four for Fox and the Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony. He’s also signed to do the film adaptation of comic book adaptation Red Star for Fox.

'BioShock 2' First Impressions

Ken Levine wants you to know that the long-discussed BioShock movie isn't completely dead in the water, it's just more of a secondary concern at Irrational Games as development on BioShock Infinite winds to a close. He revealed as much in a new interview with Edge Magazine (via Videogamer), stating that, "It's all about the stars aligning. We're still focusing on it, but it hasn't consumed us."

The BioShock movie was in the news again in March 2012, when attached director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo revealed that the project is on hold due to disagreements between "the studio and the video game company" over the budget and the desired rating. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski had originally been set to direct, though he revealed in February 2011 that he was off the project, and for the same reasons as Fresnadillo.

Wreck-It Ralph: Upcoming Disney Movie To Feature Video Game Villains

Wreck-It Ralph is an upcoming Disney movie, but unlike my favorite Disney films, this one won't star a pretty princess. Ralph is video game villain who seeks meaning in his repetitive 8-bit life. He decides to turn his life around and become a role model. In the film other video game villains make cameos to lend some helpful advice. Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-nemesis says these words,

"I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me."

I think that's a beautiful message. We're always preaching, be yourself. This applies to awful people to. Keep on keeping on, jerks!

Halo 3: ODST Available For Preorder

Way back in 2005, Microsoft made a serious play to create a blockbuster, tentpole Halo movie. The author of 28 Days Later was paid a million bucks to write a script. Fox and Universal were working with Microsoft to put it together. Denzel Washington was rumored to be interested in starring as Master Chief. Everyone was predicting huge things... Seven years later, the Halo flick is dead and buried. What happened?

While we've covered the surface of the various vicious Hollywood politics and infighting that doomed the project, the deep-dirt on the Halo movie story has never been told, until now. Wired has published a lengthy excerpt from a fascinating book, Gernation Xbox: How Video Games Invaded Hollywood, that tells the story of the fouled up Halo deal. The real culprit, according to the book, was a clash of cultures. The games industry and Hollywood just don't work the same way.

Today, the great Ridley Scott released a viral video for his upcoming film Prometheus. The prequel to Alien looks pretty stunning, I think you'll agree. Still, though, I couldn't help thinking that "Happy Birthday David" is similar to "Kara," the recently released tech demo video from game-maker David Cage. The cultural collective unconscious works in strange and wonderful ways, right?

I've embedded both videos below for your comparison pleasure.
