The group, Fairlight, was one of the biggest gaming warez groups on the scene, but was eventually busted in 2004. Krvaric had left the group officially in 1994.

In an e-mail response to other Republican officials, Krvaric said:

"Apparently there’s a hit piece floating around on me, “exposing” my wild high school, teenage years where I was in a computer club where we swapped Commodore 64 games (similar to how kids swap mp3 music files these days). This was in the 80’s, on a computer that’s long since defunct!"

What should you take away from all of this? When your parents tell you to stop spending all that time on the computer playing games and hacking, you just say, "One day I could be the leader of the GOP Committee in San Diego. Also, I'd have a weird name."

Glover kept mum on most details of the new video game site, but did spill a few tidbits. “The videogame site will not be a game-playing site,” said CEO Dick Glover. “If we became a game-playing site, that actually limits who we could partner with, who we could align with, and advertisers we could get. We want to do a very broad-based site. Whether you’re my age and playing Pac-Man is your idea of a video game, or you’re younger and at the highest levels of Halo 3, or you’re in a retirement home, we’re going to have something for you on this site.”

Glover says advertisers are paying premium CPMs to be associated with the professional content across the sites, and that Funny or Die may even go global in the near future.

“We’re looking at at least two international sites,” Glover confessed. “Action sports might be big in one region, [while in] another region comedy might be better.”

The finalists were chosen from a field of 125 entries, and will compete for the overall Best Student Game prize, to be awarded at the IGF Awards Ceremony on February 20, 2008.

All of the finalists will be showcased from February 20-22, 2008 at this year's Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco. The winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize, which will buy the lucky students a lot of Keystone Ice when they return to their respective campus.

In addition, all of the entrants will be able to show off their games in front of all of the developement studios at the GDC. So while a game like Gesundheit! might not garner much attention with the average gamer, it could lead to a team of students getting hired to create the next Portal.
