PAX Prime 2012

Xbox 360 gamers will finally get to know the magic of free-to-play games thanks to Happy Wars. We went to PAX Prime 2012 to test out Happy Wars for you, the gaming masses. Be warned, even we were impressed with how much content Happy Wars has.

The cartoony look and feel of Happy Wars along with its easy to understand gameplay makes us think that younger gamers are going to absolutely devour the game. With over a thousand items to collect, six game maps to play on, and a single player campaign to adventure through, Happy Wars is looking to make its mark when it launches for free for Xbox 360 Gold members this fall.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist puts you back in the combat boots of Sam Fisher and lets them you play however you want. Whether you want to take out your enemies guns blazing or with a bit of stealth, Blacklist's improved gameplay mechanics will allow you to take out your enemies however you see fit. At PAX Prime 2012, we got the chance to talk to Maxime Beland, Creative Director at Ubisoft, and in the video below he goes in-depth with Blacklist's new mechanics, high-tech gadgets, and the character of Sam Fisher himself.

Firefall's CEO Mark Kern took time from his busy day to talk with us about some of the improvements being made to the shooter MMO. As you'll see in the video below, dynamic events, like storm chasing, are going to change the way people play Firefall. Want to know more? The gamers at PAX Prime 2012 are so passionate that even after the show floor closes, they stay late to continue taking advantage of everything the expo has to offer. I got the opportunity to check out PAX Prime after dark and talk to some of the attendees who were up late playing board and card games, selling wares, enforcing, and more. PAX is a fun place to be when the sun goes down, check it out below.

While at PAX Prime 2012 we roadie ran our way to the front of the Epic line to get our hands on Gears of War Judgement's new mode, Free-for-All. Stephen "Rock'n Roll" Johnson has composed a heavy metal preview, so intense, so full of rock, you might want to sit down to read it.

Playing Gears of War: Judgment at PAX was like that--the right drug at the right time. This series is as meticulously manufactured as an experimental variation of MDMA made up in an evil drug genius's lab. Gears of War is like a batch of Walter White super-meth. Gears is similar to other shooter games but so distinctive, that it's hard to even express what's going on that makes it so much better than almost every other game. Gears has an extra molecule added somehow. It just has that feel, man.

Torchlight 2 was the talk of the town at this year's PAX Prime. We spoke with the CEO of Runic Games, Max Schaefe, about some of the ways Torchlight 2 sets itself apart from other games. Naughty Dog's The Last of Us steals the spotlight at each convention they show it at. The game was a repeat offender last weekend when Naughty Dog let gamers see The Last of Us in action. Now, thanks to science and the magic of encoders, you can see this The Last of Us walkthrough video, too.

If you missed Pax Prime 2012 this last weekend, we feel bad for you: It was a hell of show, the best of the gaming world gathered into one place for a three day celebration of everything games.

To give you a feel for what the show is like, we strapped a camera to a typical Pax attendee and sent him out onto the show floor to check out the scene. Clicking "play" on the video below is the closest your can get to Pax without buying a ticket!

If you couldn't make it to PAX Prime, X-Play has you covered as always. Starting September 10th, 2012 at 6:30/5:30c, Blair Herter, Morgan Webb and Kristin Adams will be bringing you three days of wall-to-wall game coverage and all the latest news to come out of the convention. 

Sony just released one of its strongest HD remake collections to date in the Ratchet & Clank Collection, and now it seems that those first three games in the series will be joined later in 2012 by the PlayStation 2 action/platformer Ratchet: Deadlocked. Both the upcoming downloadable release and the just-released collection are part of Ratchet & Clank's 10th anniversary celebration.

Insomniac community manager James Stevenson confirmed the news during a weekend panel at PAX Prime focused on the series and its life so far (via Joystiq). There's no release date announced yet, but the port is being handled -- complete with a newly revamped multiplayer mode -- by Idol Minds, the same outfit that put together disc-based collection for the PS3.

Bows and arrows are all the rage right now, and in this "Kai" gameplay trailer for the PC-based MMO RPG Vindictus, you can see them taken to the next level. An ordinary bow and arrow just won't do in Vindictus. So they went and added explosions to the mix, which makes it oh so much more entertaining.
