Lego City Undercover For Wii U Announced

Nintendo just announced a new Wii U game: Lego City Undercover. The game is from longtime Lego developer Traveler's Tales. A portable version is also in the works for the Nintendo 3DS.

The gameplay reminds me of TT's "branded" Lego games, like Lego Star Wars, except with an original story. Juding from the brief preview shown at E3 2012, the game will use the Wii U Gamepad to scan objects.

The 3DS version will feature totally different content from the Wii U version, with it's own missions and different content.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

New Paper Mario Sticker Star coming out this holiday season for the 3DS.

Mario-meets-RPG returns yet again and this time for the handheld system. This time around, you'll need to collect stickers in order to pull off your traditional Mario moves in battle like swinging a hammer or throwing a couple of fireballs. A sticker for a boot, for instance, will give you the stomp ability. Get ready to go 3D with 2D when Paper Mario Sticker Star hits the 3DS this holiday 2012.

Wii Fit U Announced At The Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference

Wii Fit U for the forthcoming Nintendo Wii U console is making sure you don't slouch in your commitment to exercise during the Wii-to-Wii-U transition.  The new game will attempt to step up your workout routine by adding the Wii U Gamepad for Wii U Fit  and the portable Fitness Meter. This pedometer-sized device will enable you to track your on-the-go activities and upload them to the Wii U console later on. Wii Fit U will also be receptive of your data from the previous two Wii Fit games, so you don't lose your progress.

The Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference also spotlighted new Wii Fit U mini-games. One of the more involved mini-game examples was a slalom game in which you'll lay down on the Wii Fit Balance Board and hold the Wii U Gamepad in your hands while speedily making your way to the bottom of the track.  Does Wii Fit U sound like it fits you?

Posted June 5, 2012 - By Stephen Johnson

Sing for the Wii U was just announced. The karaoke style game uses the Wii U's unique capabilities to allow group participation in songs. That means singing for one player, and a dancing game for the other people in the room.

New Super Mario Bros. U

Nintendo shows off their new Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. U.

Though we only got a taste of the title, New Super Mario Bros. U looks to continue what the previous title started with 4-player co-op, traditional power-ups, baby Yoshi, and a couple of new twists such as floating enemies that can help you reach higher levels. Boost mode allows a fifth person to place blocks in the environment to help players get to new areas or get through levels a bit quicker.

Make sure that you check our preview of the Mario game as soon as we hit the show floor.

Nintendo Shows Off Wii U; Introduces GamePad, Miiverse

Miiverse, Nintendo's Internet-connected virtual world filled with Mii avatars, was unveiled at its Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference this morning. Miis that gather in the common area menu include Miis on your console, Miis of friends and Miis of people you have recently interacted with. Miiverse will eventually expand to smartphones and Mii-enabled devices (like the Nintendo 3DS), but that won't be available at the launch of the Wii U console this holiday season.

Miiverse for Wii U is a sign that Nintendo is determined to build a more mature online gaming interface.  The first sign of this grown-up up stance is the fact that the words "Wii U friend codes" were not uttered once during the Nintendo E3 2012 press conference.

Can You Handle The Horror Of 3D Ghosts? Find Out In Our Luigi's Mansion 2 Impressions

Luigi's Mansion for Nintendo 3DS was once again given the spotlight during the Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference.  Although Luigi's Mansion was already unveiled at Nintendo's previous E3 press conference last year, this demo of the game revealed new ghosts that Mario's green-shirt-wearing brother will encounter. Pikmin 3

Miyamoto introduces us to the new Pikmin 3 title for the Wii U.

As one of the first games designed for the Wii U, Pikmin 3 takes advantage of the smaller second screen on the controller by giving you access to the map at all times. Now with four leaders to control, you'll need to use the map to move from each one of them if you want to survive in this tiny wilderness. Oddly enough, Captain Olimar was missing from the rooster. Where did he go and how does this fit into main story? We'll have to get our hands on it to find out.

Pikman 3 not only brings sharper graphics, but also more of those adorable Pikmin to the stage. The new Rock-type Pikmin will be able to break through objects easier than your typical little sprout.

At E3 2012, we'll be able to get our hands on the challenge mode, where we test our Pikmin skills against the clock in order to collect the most fruit. Players will be able to record their playthrough and watch as they take on the world. Learn. Collect. Win.

We've seen a year's worth of new, cool games today, but this is only the beginning. E3 2012 continues tomorrow, and all week.

Tomorrow, we'll be bringing you a ton of hands-on demoes and surprises. We’re going back to the epic world of Tamriel, in one of most anticipated MMO’s of all time, The Elder Scrolls Online.

Plus, break out your nano suit. We’re going hands on with Crysis 3.  The futuristic franchise is bringing the jungle to the Big Apple.

As you might have guessed from that collective “Holy crap!” you might have just heard, The Last of Us gameplay demo that was shown during Sony’s E3 2012 press conference was one WTF moment after another. There weren’t any huge new features revealed, but the gameplay provide more than enough little tidbits to hold us over until we see the game up close this week during E3.
The Last of Us

We’ll have the full demo video up shortly, but in the meantime, here are some of the highlights that had our office whooping and hollering:

  • I for one am a sucker for great character animations, and seeing how Joel and Ellie sidestep, put their hands up on cover in front of them, slip through windows, and choke fools to death were just too damn cool for words.
  • The sound design is super crisp, bringing each gunshot, footstep, and enemy scream to your ears with terrifying clarity.
  • The overgrown desolation of the game's setting couldn't be more enthralling, and the sense of scope is remarkable, especially since it's not an open-world game.
  • Molotov cocktails have been confirmed, as demonstrated by Joel who torched a couple unfortunately flammable foes in the only way any self-respecting survivalist would.
  • Melee takedowns are especially brutal, and they blend seamlessly into the action. At one point, Joel charged a shotgun-toting dude and instead of just grabbing from him, there was a super intense struggle between the two, giving the typically throwaway moment another level of intensity. Once Joel secured the weapon, he then beat the fool about the face with the butt of the shotgun until he was dead. But then things got even more heated when another enemy hit Joel from behind before tackling him roughly to the ground. As the two struggled for control of a pistol, Ellie came charging from behind and stabbed the enemy in the back. As the injured attacker flailed in pain on the ground, Joel took the opportunity to put a shotgun round into the dude’s face just as the demo cut to black.

There were plenty of other details worth discussing, but we'll have to wait until we can rewatch the demo to pick them out. In the meantime, be sure to check out our latest The Last of Us preview for more details.
