E3 2012

Assassin's Creed 3: Screenshots Leak

We learned some details about Assassin's Creed 3's multiplayer moments ago on G4's E3 coverage, and it sounds pretty rad. Here are the Assassin's Creed 3 multiplayer details:

  • Over 12 modes
  • One example: Domination -- players hold certain points on the map. No information revealed about other modes.
  • You will be able to play as the redcoats.
  • Game mechanics will carry over from the single player, so multiplayer will still be about stealth, sneaking, and "killing people in interesting ways."
  • There will be female Assassins.
  • Release date for Assassin's Creed 3: October 30.

Star Wars 1313 Announced

Star Wars 1313 proves that you don't need a lightsaber to take over the universe. Take on the role of a bounty hunter as you find yourself in a darker world than we're used to explore in the Star Wars universe. We recently got out eye on the demo as to watch pistols fire and bots fly into a thousand little pieces of scrap. Get ready to explore Star Wars 1313.

"The graphics of 1313, even in its current early state, look gorgeous running on a high-end PC. Cutscenes seamlessly blend into gameplay, and you really feel like you are playing through a movie rather than a video game. Explosions look real, every detail on your ship is crisp, but most importantly, the characters themselves are amazingly realistic thanks to all the top quality motion-capture work in the game."

Check out the rest of preview of the Star Wars game that will have you hunting down criminal scum very soon.

Injustice: Gods Among Us finally puts to rest all of those backroom comic book arguments by pitting DC characters against each other in a fight to the death. Well, it will mostly settle things. With characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman taking to the arena; we'll find out who's really the toughest member of the JLA with a couple of rounds of Injustice.

"The fighters possess suitably insane specials, built up via a standard meter in the bottom corner of the screen: Superman punched his opponent into low Earth orbit, while the Flash ran around the Earth to gain momentum for a devastating blow (a la a very memorable scene of Justice League). There also appears to be a sort of “betting” mechanic, where one character’s special attack can neutralize another’s, though this system was not highly detailed."

Microsoft pulled out the big guns at their E3 2012 Press Conference by unveiling the Xbox SmartGlass.  Please note: This is not a glass controller, it is an app for your home tablets and devices that allows them to all be united. (Yes, even your iPad and iPhone).

Microsoft Xbox LIVE Corporate Vice President Marc Whitten said it best, "With Xbox SmartGlass, movies are more immersive, TV is more engaging, music is more interactive and games are more thrilling."  Madden NFL 13 and Halo 4 were used to exhibit the multi-screen experience and how you can sync your tablet to control gameplay.

The SmartGlass will be available this upcoming fall and the app is free.  Does the Xbox SmartGlass have the 1-up on the Wii U? Check out this video and decide for yourself.

Star Wars 1313 Announced

E3 is in full swing, people, and I've got some details on Star Wars 1313 for you. G4 hosted ILM's Visual Effects Supervisor, Kim Libreri, and LucasArts' Creative Director, Domini Robilliard, and the pair revealed some interresting info about Star Wars 1313.

First off, we learned that the game is currently in pre-production, and it's way too early for even an estimated release date. As for the game itself, it's a single-player linear game, that features fast-paced, cover-oriented shooter gameplay with platforming elements.

Star Trek 2013

The Star Trek video game will have Kirk and Spock encounter The Gorn race as their primary villain, it was revealed at E3 2012. And really, The Gorn are the ideal enemy for Namco’s follow-up to J.J. Abram’s movie. They’re blood-thirsty, self-sacrificing warriors, they’re bent on taking over the galaxy and, best of all, they're venom-carrying reptiles.

Kirk and Spock are going to have their hands full with The Gorn. Luckily, Star Trek will be a co-op action-adventure game, so you are a buddy can save the galaxy together. We got to preview Star Trek and its drop-in, drop-out co-op gameplay earlier this year, but the enemy remained a mystery at that time. We won't get an opportunity to take on The Gorn until sometime in 2013, though. While Namco and Paramount Pictures finally revealed The Gorn as the new enemy, they didn’t announce a Star Trek release date past the wide window of “Q1 2013.”

Star Trek the video game is being developed by Ontario-based Digital Extremes - you may remember them from games such as BioShock 2 and The Darkness II. Luckily, the team is being given a lot of time to develop this PC, Xbox 360 and PC game. That should make up for the downloadable Star Trek D-A-C game that Paramount released as a movie tie-in in 2009.

Metal Gear Rising

Our favorite cyborg ninja returns in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and I got to get my hands on this hero as he strides out in his own game. Put away those little guns. We're taking a sword into this fight. Revengeance lets you slice and dice just about anything that gets in your way, from nasty watermelons to helicopters.

"The free slicing mode allows you to take your time and enjoy every little cut as you prove that the sword is mightier than just about anything else. On a secluded beach, I got to test out my skills against some rather vicious watermelons. Entering free slicing mode brought up a translucent orange line, showing exactly where the sword will slice. Even after making the first cut, staying in the mode allowed for additional cuts until I had something that resembled a smoothie."

Disney Epic Mickey 2

Disney Interactive announces today that we'll finally get our hands on Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two on November 18, 2012 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. That date is important because, as the internets tells me, it is considered to be the official birthday of both Mickey and MInnie Mouse, and it was the day that Mickey's first cartoon, "Steamboat Willie," debuted. Cool, huh?

Get you hands on Mickey and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as you paint your way through this musical adventure. If you haven't already, check out our interview with Warren Spector about this newest masterpiece as well as this trailer about what it takes to bring the magic to life.

Gears Of War Judgment Revealed

While we couldn't be more excited about the announcement for Gears of War Judgment, finally getting our hands on it turned out to be a close second. In this preview, we take a look at the new Overrun mode that once again pits you against another team looking to claim victory, but as always, there's a twist to this tale.

"Overrun is essentially Gears of War 3’s Beast Mode and horde mode smashed together with a sprinkling of class-based characters. For one round, we played as humans defending a power generator, and for the second, we played as various Locust variants trying to destroy the generator. Pretty straightforward stuff."

Check out the rest of our complete hands-on preview to learn more about classes and objectives as we head out to the arena yet again.

The Rayman: Legends Wii U gameplay video from the Ubisoft E3 2012 Press Conference is as fun to watch as it should be to play with up to five of your friends. (Yes, five!)

Keeping the same successful formula of the award winning Rayman: Origins, bringing the game to the Wii U allows for more interactive gameplay and four controller options to choose from.  Senior Game Manager Michael Micholic introduces a new flying green character named Murphy who was created specifically to take full advantage of the Wii U features.  Oh yeah, the game brings fourth a new soundtrack, new maps, and new co-op combos!

Tease yourself in this video and get excited for the fast-paced side-scrolling action of the upcoming Rayman: Legends game that does not have an official release date at this time.

Nintendo Land for Wii U Announced

Ground was broken on Nintendo Land for the Wii U at the Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference.  The video game publisher said that the goal of this party game is to unite living rooms and people all around the world. That, of course, means Nintendo Land will feature multiplayer gameplay for up to five participants, or, if you want to get cute, "antendees." There will be a total of 12 mini-games, or "attractions" in the final version of Nintendo Land. Five of the 12 games will be on the E3 2012 showfloor at Nintendo's booth.

The Nintendo Land games list so far includes Donkey Kong's Crash Course, Luigi's Ghost Mansion, Animal Crossing: Sweet Day, The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest and Takamaru's Ninja Castle.  Each attraction allows you to further explore a renowned Nintendo franchise.

Luigi's Ghost Mansion was the Nintendo Land mini-game shown off the most during the E3 press conference. The demo had one player assume the role of a ghost and only be visible on the Wii U Gamepad screen. Everyone else (up to four players) controlled a flashlight-wielding ghost hunter on the television. Like Chase, a tech demo seen at the last E3, Nintendo Land for Wii U demonstrated a unique gameplay that the individual Wii U Gamepad screen can provide.

Luigi's Ghost Mansion

As a part of the new Nintendo Land, Luigi's Ghost Mansion: Haunting Hijinks pits four players against another player acting as the ghost.

Three players search the single story mansion as they look for one ghost in the many rooms and hallways. As a ghost buster, you slowly move from room to room, waiting for that gentle rumble to tell you that a spirit is near. Shine your light at the ghost and you'll knock him down a couple of pegs. Take his life force to zero, and that ghost is busted.
