Holiday Buyer's Guide: Boyfriends

Asking a boyfriend what he wants for the holidays typically elicits one of two types of answers. The first, if you’ve been going out for a long time, is “I don’t know. Whatever you decide.” This no-help response doesn’t actually mean “I want nothing.” It means you’re going to have to find out some other way.

The second type of answer, if you’ve just started dating, is something along the lines of “You know what I want this year? World peace.” An alternate to this is “To have more time to be with you.” These overly sappy responses don’t help much either.

Thankfully we can help you translate all this dead-end dialogue into four words: “We Want Video Games.” From the time we were boys to now that we’ve grown up to be boys at heart, our wish list hasn’t changed all that much. To give you even more precise directions, here are the most desirable gaming gifts that should be on your significant other’s ambiguous wish list.

Holiday Buyer's Guide: Girlfriends

So you have a gamer girlfriend/wife/”special lady” – lucky you! Chances are, you’re the subject of envy among gamers whose better halves don’t "get" the hobby. Holiday shopping should be a breeze – unless, of course, it turns into a minefield. To avoid the worst of the holiday explosions, we present a holiday gift guide full of suggestions for the best gifts for your gamer girlfriend.

One quick word of advice – listen to her, and you can’t go wrong. Take note of the types of games she plays, the themes she enjoys, and the stuff she’s not into. If she’s a hardcore shooter fan with an aversion to pastels, she may not appreciate it if you wrap up Kirby’s latest with a pink bow. Likewise, a smart lady who enjoys her puzzle-platformers may not be thrilled with Duke Nukem Forever. Keep your eyes open, and you’re bound to make your gaming goddess very happy this season.

Modern Warfare 3 Cover Art Revealed?

The holiday shopping season is upon us. Call of Duty is a big deal every year, but 2011 in particular has seen a flood of products branded in the name of Activision's tremendously popular first-person shooter franchise. And why not? With Modern Warfare 3 boasting a launch day that ranks as the biggest ever, across all of entertainment, there's a good chance that at least one person you're buying a gift for likes to spend a chunk of his or her gaming hours playing Duty online.

That may narrow it down, but there are still some choices to be made. You can't just get a Duty fan the game; that part was almost certainly already taken care of on November 8. Your gift should enhance that fan's experience, and this guide will help you navigate through the multitude of options that are available this holiday season.

The Most Awkward Job At CES 2010 (Of Course, It Involves 3D)

Welcome to our 2011 Holiday Buyer's Guide for 3D Gaming. This gaming trend has gained momentum in the past year thanks to the backing of key players in the video game industry. Sony is committed to supporting 3D in all of its new first-party PS3 games, Nintendo released a handheld dedicated to the new dimension and Microsoft even stepped up with a pair of Xbox 360 3D exclusive titles. On the PC side, Nvidia gave us a brighter 3D outlook by releasing the 3D Vision 2 glasses, which aren’t half as dark as the original lenses. So, although consumers have been slow to adopt this technology, the fact that 3D is being built into TV sets, computer monitors and handhelds means that 3D gaming will creep into our lives whether we’re ready or not. Knowing that, if you’re adamant on being an early adopter who owns all of the coolest tech toys, impress your friends this season by adding these 3D gadgets and games to your 2011 holiday wish list.
