Guides And Walkthroughs

skyrim

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is filled with all sorts of fun things to do, but Dragon Shouts are some of the most epic things you can play with in the game. With our Dragon Shouts guide, you'll be able to find out where you can acquire all 20 Shouts, what they do, and why you need all of them to truly enhance your role playing experience.

Before we begin, let's talk about some Skyrim lore and what the Shouts actually are. Basically, a Shout is the utterance of one or more Words of Power in order to achieve a specific magical or unique effect. Shouts let you do things like strike foes with a blast of force, stun them, call down lightning storms, and more. As a Dragonborn, you can use these shouts that all consist of up to three Words of Power.

In order to learn the Words of Power you must find Word Walls which are spread all throughout Skyrim. Each word is powerful, but for each additional word you know in the shout, it will become that more powerful. The trick is that you'll always learn them in the order of the three-word final phrase, so it doesn't matter which Word Wall you visit first. Another thing to remember about Words of Power is that after you learn them, you have to unlock them with Dragon Souls that you acquire after you kill a dragon.

Now that you know all about Word Walls and Shouts, here is our list of all of the Dragon Shouts in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Of course, these contain minor spoilers so if you don’t want to ruin your Skyrim experience then consider yourself warned!

Star Wars: The Old Republic Sith Warrior Guide -- You Don't Know The Power Of The Dark Side... But You Can!

So you're gearing up for the Star Wars: The Old Republic release date, pouring over which class will suit your style.  You've always wanted to wield a blade of searing light that goes vvvoowwmmm, wammm because hey, who hasn't? But the Jedi Knight? That's not the path for you. You're too hardened, too independent for ancient codes and nonsense about honor. You want to be the biggest and the baddest, a symbol of fear and power as much as you are a player. You, my friend, want to be a Sith Warrior.

You Should Play A Sith Warrior If: If Darth Vader was your hero and icon you looked up to as you grew up, you'll fit right in with the Sith Warrior. And a heavy-handed family therapist. But we're not here to judge. Like its Republic counterpart the Jedi Knight, the Sith Warrior is the first to leap into battle, lightsaber flashing across the bodies of his foes as they fall all around him.

Although the Rule of Two wouldn't be instituted until much later amongst the Sith, it's still helpful for figuring out where the Sith Warrior falls in with the Empire's grand scheme; a proper analogy would be to see Darth Vader as the Sith Warrior and his master, Darth Sidious, as the Sith Inquisitor. The latter may make the cunning and devious plan, but the Sith Warrior is the arm that accomplishes the Sith vision.

Background: The Sith Warrior is a fearless, ruthless and unyielding force of destruction. For levels 1-10 he is an ambitious student at the Sith Academy on Korriban, eager to please the Dark Lords who oversee his progress. Student rivalry is prominent and so the Sith Warrior in SW:TOR is one who has been groomed to seek out and destroy all who oppose him, even if he has to go out of his way to do so. After all, a Sith Warrior with nothing to destroy is like a Yoda who talks normal; it just doesn't satisfy.

Skyrim Alchemy Guide -- The Potions Of The Elder Scrolls 5

Alchemy in Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim can be daunting. The potions, poisons and ingredients of Skyrim are just as numerous as everything else in the game, so there are endless powders, plants and other items littered throughout the huge game world. Each ingredient has four effects, making for a nearly infinite number of possible combinations. You can mix up potions randomly at the game's many alchemy stations, but you'll end up with a lot of useless mixtures through trial and error. The path to creating useful draughts that restore health or bring other effects takes know-how and patience. To save you some headache, we've created this lovely Alchemy Guide for Skyrim.

The basic rule: Potions and poisons are created by combining items that share a common effect. Combine two ingredients that boost health, and you've got a health boosting potion. Simple... except that you can't tell immediatly what effect an ingredient has.

Luckily, the first effect of any ingredient can be discovered by simply eating the item, at your own risk of course. After that, you'll unlock ingredient effects through creating successful potions or poisons, or unlocking alchemical perks through the game's skill tree.

Below you'll find a list (in alphabetical order) of the effects you can replicate via potions, and ingredients that offer those properties. But before we list them we think we should warn you, G4 does not condone sneaking into an alchemy store and stealing these ingredients, even though it would be way easier than actually looking for them.

One quick word of advice – listen to her, and you can’t go wrong. Take note of the types of games she plays, the themes she enjoys, and the stuff she’s not into. If she’s a hardcore shooter fan with an aversion to pastels, she may not appreciate it if you wrap up Kirby’s latest with a pink bow. Likewise, a smart lady who enjoys her puzzle-platformers may not be thrilled with Duke Nukem Forever. Keep your eyes open, and you’re bound to make your gaming goddess very happy this season.

If you spend enough time wandering around the world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you're bound to come across shrines to the Daedric Princes of Oblivion. There's an Achievement/Trophy for finding 15 Daedric Artifacts, not to mention the rewards for these quests are some of the best items you can find. But for people playing a morally ambiguous character, these quests should be high on your side-quest radar.

Saints Row The Third

Saints Row has never been a very serious franchise. While other open-world games have sober storylines and far-reaching narrative ambitions, the folks at Volition have instead embraced the gleeful chaos of the sandbox genre. Instead of poker-faced gangsters and cowboys, the Third Street Saints live in a world so steeped in over-the-edge urban theatrics that you’d be hard pressed to find a better embodiment of satire in videogame form.

A huge part of that success is in the weapons. On top of the more mundane guns and toys in your arsenal, you’ve always been privy to insane arms – like the pimp cane, samurai sword and the septic waste-spewing truck from Saints Row 2. You may think that was hard to top, but Saints Row: The Third ups the ante, with weapons so ridiculous that it’s hard to imagine that a group of particularly creative middle-schoolers weren’t consulted in the weapon design process.

Here’s a look at some of the game’s most insane hardware, featuring everything from the infamous “fart in a jar” to the even more infamous “penetrator”.

The Greenest Video Games and Video Game Characters From Luigi To Green Day

It's Green Week here at G4, and we're totally going Green! I'm not talking about swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck, or stroking the felt on a talking frog puppet. I'm talking about the kind of green that conserves power and saves the planet. While a typical gamers' consoles, HDTVs, and surround sound systems suck a lot of juice, we thought we'd take a look at some alternatives that will give your electric bill and the planet a break. You don’t have to do a lot to do a lot, and we promise our green alternative will be a lot of fun.

There are some extremely low-power games out there that don't run on anything AC/DC at all. Brainpower is all that is needed for these games, and most of them will set you back for less than the cost of a console title. Bonus: they're all multiplayer, and you won't have to worry about some 13 year-old kid calling you a d-bag. Probably. Board games provide for amazing strategy, gameplay, and creativity, and here are five that will keep your power switch off, and your fun switch on.

Skyrim Werewolf Guide: Hairy, Deadly Fun in The Elder Scrolls 5

Werewolves aren't new to the Elder Scrolls universe, but they return in Skyrim for the first time since their arrival in the second Morrowind expansion, Bloodmoon. Unlike Skyrim's vampire disease, contracting lycanthropy is not as simple as doing battle with one of these fearsome creatures. Partially because you won't randomly encounter them out in the wilderness and partially because that's just not how things work.

Werewolves factor into one of Skyrim's faction questlines, so heed this important caveat before you read our Skyrim Werewolf guide any further: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Got it? Good.

Skyrim bat

Vampires have had a rough few years since the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Those Twilight books have corrupted the myths surrounding the legendary bloodsuckers. You'll be pleased to learn then that Skyrim's vampires don't sparkle in the sunlight, nor do they spend their days acting emotional and pining for marriage.

In fact, longtime Elder Scrolls fans will be pleased to learn that vampirism hasn't changed too much since its appearance in Oblivion and Morrowind before it. The same strategies you used to survive as a blood-sucker in the older games will still be useful in Skyrim. This Skyrim vampire guide will help you come to terms with your newfound gifts, a valuable aid for Elder Scrolls newcomers and longtime fans looking for a bit of a refresher.
