Help (Virtually) Build A Halo: Reach Monument Of Light

UPDATED 12:55PM PST: Looks like the site has gone live 12 hours or so early. Not sure why, but it has, so if you want to add your point of light, head over now.

The last thing Halo lovers need at this point is yet another way to express their undying love for Bungie’s juggernaut of a franchise, however Microsoft has just announced a new user-generated promotion for the crazy anticipated Halo: Reach designed to build a virtual “monument of light commemorating the heroes of Noble Team and the planet Reach.”

Master Chief Is Actually In Halo: Reach

I know! You thought it couldn't be done! That it would never happen! That this game absolutely, positively would not have Master Chief in it at all! Well, that's not entirely true. We've confirmed at Gamescom 2010 that Master Chief will be in Halo: Reach ... just not in the way you're probably expecting.

Hands-On New Halo: Reach Maps

Halo: Reach is less than a month away. Are you ready for it? Got your skills down? Polished up your collectible Master Chief helmet? Taken the remote control Warthog for a cruise around the living room a few times? Good. Then we're here to supplement your knowledge with some intel on two new Firefight maps that you'll be fighting the good fight on.

Microsoft revealed "Corvette," at Gamescom this week, which is the newest map to to be featured for the co-op Firefight mode, and they also had "Outpost" playable, which had previously only been seen in screenshots for North American press. We took a spin inside both of them, and here are some tips to help keep you alive. With so much of the game having been revealed already, are there still surprises in store? "Yes, we have a lot left for people to see when the game launches," said Bungie.net community lead Brian Jarrard.

With the release of Halo: Reach  just around the corner, Bungie has been treating us to a series of first looks at the game. Called ViDocs, these short little films give us a tantalizing glimpse into some of the aspects of the game. This new ViDoc, entitled, "A Spartan Will Rise," highlights the Noble Team, the group of Spartan soldiers to which you will belong in the single-player campaign.

We meet Carter (Noble One), the leader of the team, Cat (Noble Two), a tech expert whose curiosity might just kill her, Jun (Noble Three), an expert sniper, Emile (Noble Four), a man possessed with a ton of courage, but perhaps not the best judgment to go with it, Jorge (Noble Five), your heavy weapons specialist, and Noble Six, the character that you will play in the game. An enigma, Noble Six is acknowledged as a world-class badass with a shadowy past.

Check out the ViDoc here, and get ready to defend Reach on September 14!

Whoa. If the other Halo: Reach trailers haven't already forced you to enlist in the battle for Reach, this TV spot should be the clincher. Fleet of Warthogs engaged in battle with Covenant forces? Check!  Falcons with troops onboard in scenes reminiscent of James Cameron's Avatar? Check! Awesome chill-inducing soundtrack? Check!

Even though the game's gotta end on a downer, after this trailer I can definitely say... WANT!

Halo: Reach Xbox 360 Console Includes Audio Easter Eggs

Today at the Halo: Universe panel at Comic-Con, Frank O'Connor showed off two nifty easter eggs that are built into the new Xbox 360 Halo: Reach Limited Edition Xbox 360 Console. The power and eject buttons both have a tiny bit of RAM in them, and if you've played around with the normal new edition of the console, you've heard the soothing power chime when you switch it on.

But for this Halo-centric version, they've included two special sounds: power on and the console plays the Invisibility power-up sound and hit the eject button and you'll hear the Shield Charging effect. Major Nelson should have a video up soon on his site showing these off.

Also, when asked if we would see the continuation of Master Chief's story, Frankie said, "At the end of Halo 3, and cover your ears if you haven't played it, Master Chief is in cryosleep. Cortana has sent a rescue signal, and they are orbiting a strange world. We'd have to be the world's biggest assholes to not follow through on his story." At which point, the audience erupted into huge cheers.

E3 2010: Halo: Reach Firefight Hands-On Preview

Space Marines: We've seen some of Halo: Reach's campaign mode, and we want to tell you all about it. From Kevin Kelly's first hand glimpse of the upcoming shooter's space combat:

They've overhauled their own engine to make it look better, and they've tweaked just about everything in the game. It's extremely satisfying having other Spartans fighting alongside you, even though I'm not quite sure what they're doing when you're flying the ship. Reading books? Preparing to undock their own segments and split off, Voltron style? Going over their UNSC pay grade sheets? The space combat sequence is very cool …

E3 2010: Halo: Reach Firefight Gameplay Trailer »

Bungie has unveiled that the Horde-based Firefight mode introduced in Halo 3: ODST will be making its triumphant return in Halo: Reach. I had a chance to check out the new and improved Firefight during E3, and there is a lot that Halo fans are going to absolutely flip out about when they see what Bungie has brought to Firefight table this time around.

"For starters, every element of the Firefight match can be tweaked and toggled to your exact specification. Want to have a match where headshots are disabled, you only face grunts, enemies have a 250 percent damage multiplier and you can only jump half as high as normal? Toggle the right settings, and you’re done. The sheer number of options available to players is staggering, and because the options list is so robust, it basically gives the game infinite replayability."

Plenty more Halo-y goodness awaits in our Halo: Reach E3 2010 Firefight hands-on preview.

If you were part of the more than 2.7 million players that helped make console history this month in participating in the Halo: Reach beta, Bungie has a message for you. Featuring some slick combat highlights and glaring bugs, watch Bungie's "The Good, the Badass, and the Ugly" to get your warm fuzzies on with all those cuddly multiplayer memories. Anything look familiar?
