PAX Prime 2011

David Jaffe PAX Prime 2011 Keynote -- How David Jaffe Got His Groove Back

The PAX Prime 2011 Keynote was delivered by Twisted Metal and God of War's David Jaffe. Hundreds of fans, myself included, lined up outside the Paramount Theater to hear what Jaffe had to say. Which actually wasn't, "Surprise! There's a copy of Twisted Metal under your chairs!"

David Jaffe started the keynote with a flashback to his days at USC. He didn't have the grades to get into film school but somehow he ended up with the keys to different rooms on campus. One day he used that power to sit in the front row of a speech from Jeffrey Katzenberg  This was the same day he wrote the memo that inspired the memo that got Tom Cruise fired in Jerry Maguire. The leaked document detailed how Hollywood needed to change, slamming the current climate of the industry.

People always ask Jaffe "How do I get in?" "How do I get where you are?" These were the questions 19-year-old Jaffe was sitting there asking. Katzenberg answered, "These people don't need a roadmap from you. They're going to make it and they're going to find a way to do it." That moment solidified the path Jaffe always knew he would be on.  "I deserved it, not because I was arrogant, but because why not me?"

Twisted Metal "Dollface" Trailer »

This Twisted Metal trailer from PAX Prime 2011 should be a lesson for all you guys out there: mess up a girl's face and she'll seek revenge any way she can. Meet the pink haired Dollface in this gameplay trailer chock full of weapons like Murder Balls and the Meat Grinder. Twisted Metal is set to be released on February 14th, 2012 and may be the only time we're actually looking forward to Valentine's Day.

Razer kicked PAX Prime 2011 off with the announcement of their new Razer Blade laptop, which they're calling "the world’s first true gaming laptop". It's powered with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology video card sporting 2GB of dedicated video memory, 8 GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a multi-touch LED configurable "Switchblade Interface" trackpad panel that displays additional information when a mouse is used next to a full-size keyboard. All this on an aluminum chassis and weighing 6.97 lbs.

Razer Blade "Ultimate Gaming Laptop" Video Tour »

We checked out Razer's miniaturized, mobile gaming computer Switchblade back at CES earlier this year, but that still hasn't come out yet, and it looks like some of that tech has gone into this sytem. What will the Blade set you back? A whopping $2799.99. That's a lot of bucks for your gaming bang. Will it be worth it? We'll be putting one through the paces as soon as it's available, so be sure to check back. But, what do you think? Is that completely drool-worthy, or too steep in price? One thing is for sure, it certainly looks extremely sexy.

Halo: Reach Multiplayer Improvements And Features Detailed

A title update coming in mid-late September to Halo: Reach will add 4GB consoles, but nerf Armor Lock.

Previously, Xbox 360 gamers with tiny drives were out of luck. Reach is just too big to run on those 4GB versions of the 360. The update  will allow even the low-end 360s to get in on the fun Expect new playlists to roll out in early October.

That's all the good news. Here's the other news (whether it's bad or good depends on your Reach playstyle). In the newly updated version of Halo: Reach, using the armor lock perk will no longer knock stick grenades off your armor.

Halo Anniversary Preview

Our crack team of literate gaming nerds are on the ground at PAX Prime 2011, seeing the sights, meeting the people and, most importantly, playing the games. Last night it was Halo Fest. This morning, we have Eric Eckstein, Nikole Zivalich, Jake Gaskill and Leah Jackson's impressions of Halo: Anniversary's Team Slayer and Firefight modes:

Here's a sample:

"Team Slayer is where the magic happens in Halo. Halo: CE Anniversary will have the option to play an updated version of a classic map and a version that has been tweaked to better handle new perks. Basically, 343 read my mind, knew I always go for jetpack, and redid a bunch of classic maps with more ledges, caves, and anywhere else I could boost up and hide. Camping is legitimate strategy. And using your jetpack to get to those camp spots is just smart. This is why I win wars, people."

Check out the rest of our Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary preview.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary -- What You Don't Know

One of the improvements Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will have is AI marine allies to aid lone players in Firefight. The news was announced during HaloFest before PAX and revolves around the horde-style gameplay mode first introduced in Halo ODST with allows gamers and their friends to play together to fight off swarms of enemies including Grunts, Brutes and Elites. With Halo: CE Anniversary, gamers who don't feel like playing with other people will have a fighting chance thanks to the addition of AI marines. These soldiers will have your back as you take on the enemy as featured in the Firefall map, Installation 04 within Halo Anniversary.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will be released on November 15, 2011 for the Xbox 360.

Halo 4 Warthog Featured In Forza Motorsport 4 Autovista Experience -- Get In The Driver's Seat Like Never Before

Players will be able to get their first in-depth look at the iconic Halo 4 Warthog as, surprisingly, it will be featured in Forza Motorsport 4's breathtaking new Autovista experience. Autovista is pretty incredible. It lets players interact, walk around, and learn about some of the world's most high class vehicles in a way no other game has been able to before. In Autovista, you can get inside of vehicles, turn them on, look at the dashboard, under the hood, and more.

The one downer: You won't be able to drive the Warthog in Forza. The gun-turrets might be a little unfair to the other cars, after all.

Torchlight 2 Hands-On Preview

Runic Games has announced that the price of the dungeon crawling action RPG Torchlight 2 will be $19.99, and that the final class will be the Embermage.

The Embermage is a magic wielding class that joins the previously announced Engineer, Outlander, and Berserker classes. It's not too surprising that the final class is a magic user when you consider all of the other classes, but it's nice to know that it's finally confirmed. Also, as the original Torchlight was only $20, it's great that the second game, which brings with it tons of additions and new features over the first title, is still be released at a value price.

“It’s always been our goal to provide exceptional value for the price,” says Max Schaefer, CEO of Runic Games. “Everyone who wants to play Torchlight 2 will be able to comfortably afford to do so, and they’ll be able to play with their friend online or via a LAN, or play single player offline, all with no further purchases.””

We'll be getting some hands on time with T2's Embermage at PAX Prime 2011, so be sure to check back for our preview. Torchlight 2 is coming to the PC sometime in 2011.

G4 and doublesix games (makers of  upcoming Steam, PSN and Xbox Live game All Zombies Must Die!) are teaming up to make three of you into zombies. 4. Profit.

We'll email the funniest jokers with further details.
