PAX Prime 2011

Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is one of my most anticipated games of this fall. And rightfully so, it offers hundreds of hours of gameplay, an immersive open-world, wolly mammoths and most importantly, the ability to kill civilians.

"With my fire spells in my left hand and my trusty axe in my right I made quick work of the two townsfolk who tried to teach me a lesson. It's what happened next that basically had me in stitches. After killing the townspeople, I looted their bodies, and when you loot people in Skyrim, you actually take all of their belongings, clothes included. I took everything from these two, including all of their clothes, trinkets, and weapons, and then noticed that I had killed them by the same stream I had been wading my way through earlier. The developer told me that if I wanted to drag them in to the water I could, so you can guess what happened next."

Find out what else you can kill in Leah's PAX Prime Skyrim preview.

If you watched the Hawken story trailer, then I bet you're going to love the new Hawken gameplay trailer that Adhesive Studios has just released. Hawken is a mech combat first person shooter that was developed by a small indie team who has been working on it for 11 months. Aside from the fact that this trailer is super brown, it's pretty mind blowing. I can't remember the last time I actually felt like I was in the game, and Hawken really gets that across with its UI. Check out the gameplay trailer below.

Hawken is currently in development, will be released when it's ready. If you want to know more you should visit the Hawken website.

This week is officially half over and I know the perfect way to celebrate: a tall glass of Feedback! That's refreshing and low calorie. One this special PAX edition of Feedback your panel is Adam Sessler, Blair Herter, Leah Jackson and Mike D'Alonzo.

This past weekend was a little convention called PAX Prime 2011. Most of the Feedback crew was there. Listen as they reflect on their favorite games, like Antichamber, Guild Wars 2 and FireFall. Plus, what's the deal with GameStop removing OnLive coupons from PC copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution? GameStop sells PC games still? I joke.

Are you ready for some virtual football? I hope so because we're talking about Madden NFL 12. Does Madden 12 live up to the Madden legacy?

News, reviews, anecdotes, inappropriate one-liners, this episode of Feedback has it all. Try not to enjoy it too much, we all know what happens when you get carried away.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Let's watch it again, right after we leave the NICEST comment ever.

One of the biggest games of this fall made an appearance at PAX Prime 2011. I'm of course talking about the return of Ezio and Altair in Assassin's Creed: Revelations. X-Play's Adam Sessler hosted the Assassin's Creed panel at PAX. He hosted their panel during Comic Con too; someone is a fanboy.

If you didn't make it to PAX Prime make sure to check out this awesome Assassin's Creed: Revelations panel video.

With the exception of the E3 teaser trailer, little is known about what 343 Industries has planned for Halo 4, the developer’s first original offering since Bungie passed the torch upon departing to work on its next big project at Activision. As you’d expect, the 343 developers in attendance at the Halo 4 PAX Prime 2011 panel this past weekend weren’t able to reveal too many juicy details about Master Chief’s next epic space adventure, but they did speak quite a bit about what the studio’s mindset and approach has been, and will continue to be, as development on the next Halo trilogy progresses over the coming months and years.

Halo 4 PAX Prime 2011 Panel Recap -- The Foundation And

While Halo 4 was obviously the primary topic of conversation, creative director Frank O’Connor made it a point to acknowledge that the PAX panel was also “really, in some ways, the debut of the studio.” As O’Connor explained, the studio was formed about three years ago, with his fellow panelists—art director Kenneth Scott, executive producer Kiki Wolfkill, creative director Josh Holmes, and audio director Sotaro Tojima—being the core around which the team was formed.

The Cosplay Of PAX Prime 2011 -- How Many Photos Does Master Chief Photobomb?

PAX Prime 2011 was gamers' last chance to get their hands on all the big titles coming this year. As the last major convention of the year, it was also the last time to cosplay. Knowing the cosplay clock was ticking, gamers came out in full force with hundreds of cosplayers in attendance. Left 4 Dead characters, anime characters, and Wrex from Mass Effect were some of my favorites. Plus, Master Chief kept showing up in other group cosplays.

Aliens: Infestation Arrives In The US On October 11

It would have been easy to overlook, given all the Borderlands 2 talk that was happening, but Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford confirmed a release date for the Nintendo DS game Aliens: Infestation at PAX over the weekend. October 11 in the US and a week and a half earlier in Europe, on September 30.

Aliens: Infestation is quite a bit different from the squad-based shooter that is Aliens: Colonial Marines, but it sounds like a good fit for the DS, combining a "Metroidvania" style of play and exploration with the Aliens license. The game was developed by WayForward Technologies, in partnership with Gearbox.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary PAX Prime 2011 Panel Recap -- Fan Love Letter Evolved

We’ve heard it before whenever people talk about HD remakes but when Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary executive producer Dan Ayoub explains,“Halo Anniversary is a labor of love,” he really, really means it.

“We didn’t want to an HD version, throw it into a box, and call it a day,” Ayoub continued during 343 Industries’ Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary panel at PAX Prime 2011. The developers wanted to make the game, due out on November 15 (10 years to the day since the release of the original Halo), not only felt exactly the same as it did a decade ago, but that it also wasn’t simply an uprezzed version either.

To achieve this delicate balance, 343 layered together the groundbreaking controls of Halo with the graphical capabilities of the Halo: Reach engine to create an experience that is simultaneously nostalgic yet current. One of the key features designed to drive this point home even further is the classic mode option. At any point in the game, you can tap the back button and instantly see what the game looked like in its original form.

Borderlands 2 assets are more rare than gold on the moon, with Gearbox only providing us with three screenshots and roughly 20 seconds of footage from the game during gamescom. So did they open the floodgates at PAX Prime 2011 and firehose more onto us? No. They only gave us two more screens. Still, those two screens make are making us drool in anticipation of searching endlessly for bigger and badder weapons.

New Borderlands 2 Screens Looks Impressive, Remind Us That Game Is A Long Way Off

Of course, with names filenames "Exploding Bandits" images of lumbering mechs, of course you're going to make us drool. Borderlands 2 is definitely a highly anticipated game, it's just that Gearbox has already told us that we're going to have to anticipate for awhile longer. When it finally arrives, it will bring cel-shaded action, and over the top violence along with a healthy amount of loot whoring. Check out the other new image "Dam Top Fight" after the break.
