At PAX Prime 2011 we got the opportunity to chat with the legendary Seth Killian about Capcom's upcoming fighting games Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom and Street Fighter X Tekken. First Killian goes in to the style of two new characters to Ultimate MvC3, Dr. Strange and Nemesis, talking about their strengths and weakenesses. Then he gives us some insight on how SFXT will play, which I'm sure will please all of the Tekken fans.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be in your hands in only a few months but it was in our hands just a week ago at PAX. G4's Leah Jackson spent sometime in the Sky Temple, here's what she thought. Spoiler alert: There's a temple called the Sky Temple.

"I must admit that I haven't played a Wii game in a very long time, but the Skyward Sword controls felt quite natural once I got the hang of them. You move around with the thumb stick, hit Z to lock on to enemies, and thrust out the nun chuck to raise your shield. With the Wii Mote you control Link's sword and pull out your various items. The game promises 1:1 sword action with the Wii Motion Plus, and while I think it failed to live up to that metric, it was still very impressive. If I lifted my sword above my head, Link would mimic that action. If I waved it in front of me, again, Link would do just that. Even when fighting, Link would stab or swing the sword in the direction I did, allowing me to, for the first time ever with a Wii, actually feel like I was swinging a sword. Being a lazy PC gamer myself, I wasn't so used to defending with the shield with one hand and swinging my sword with my other hand at first, but after I saw Link doing it in the game, I began to get the hang of it. I can see many people getting physically tired from this if they really get in to it, but that's half of the fun."

Indie games are king of the castle at PAX Prime. This year's PAX 10  games were so innovative, fresh, and some times confusing, we had to break them down into segments. This segment includes games like AntiChamber and Fez, both titles I can't wait for.

At PAX Prime, the best cosplayers were out running amok by the hundreds and Kristin Adams got the chance to chat with a few of her favorites. I love cosplay and think that it's a great way to express your creativity and love for your most favorite characters. Kristin got to met up with the entire League of Legends crew,  an Engineer from Team Fortress 2, a whole Mortal Kombat group, Spider-Man, Cammy from Street Fighter, and more.

This year’s PAX Prime offered up plenty of AAA offerings for attendees to enjoy, but the bread and butter of PAX have always been board games and indie games, even if the convention center layout didn’t do indie developers any favors in terms of giving them the exposure that could lead to that one big break. Anyway, the point is there were quite a few notable indie titles on display at the show, and while I wasn’t able to see them all, I wanted to highlight a couple of the standouts so that you could proptly add them to your radars.

This stunning, fluid dynamics-based puzzle platformer has been on our radars for some time now, just around the time it was nominated for Technical Excellence at last year’s Independent Games Festival. At PAX 2011, I was able to finally get my hands on the game, and while I only had about 15 minutes to play, it ended up being my favorite game of the show. The art direction is jaw dropping, due largely to the slick, clean steam punk style that instantly sucks you in, and the level of detail that is packed into each of 2.5D planes is just remarkable.

As you may have read in part one of our Halo 4 PAX panel recap, the formation of 343 Industries and how the studio handled the transition from Halo contributors to full on Halo owners put the team in a unique and creatively challenging position. Hardly surprising when you consider they inherited one of the biggest game franchises of all time from one of the most acclaimed developers in the industry. For as much as their PAX panel was devoted to “debuting” 343 and its core creative talent, it was also a time for Halo fans to find out more about what the studio has planned for Halo 4, from the sound design to the overall aesthetic.

Halo 4 PAX Prime 2011 Panel Recap Part 2 -- The Sights And Sounds Of Halo's Next Chapter

Diehard fans of Halo are keenly aware, there are multiple channels through which the epic sci-fi narrative of Halo is told. And while most fans get their Halo fix through the various games, the story continues to be told and expanded upon via comics and books as well.  But if you think these transmedia efforts are standalone efforts meant to simple tide people over between games then 343 Industries creative director Frank O’Connor has some news for you.

“Everything we make in that franchise, whether it’s a comic book, whether it’s a novel, even action figures, they all feed directly into [Halo 4].”
