Kart Driver: A Dark Take On Mario Kart -- G4 Films' Epictober Film Festival

"Kart Driver" tells the story of Mario as he searches for his on-and-off again girlfriend, Pauline, but I doubt you've ever seen an imagining of the Super Mario Bros series quite like this. "Kart Driver" was the second film in the G4 Film Festival but we had to show it to you again. It was co-written and directed by Drew Daywalt. His co-writer is none-other than G4's Stephen Johnson.

"Kart Driver" pays homage to Mario's first love, Pauline and first nemesis, Donkey Kong. But don't worry; you'll recognize a few old friends here too.

Director Drew Daywalt knows a thing or two about horror; he directed several episodes of the MTV's new Horror-comedy television series Death Valley, the feature Stark Raving Mad and many horrific short films for the internet.

Check back tomorrow for another entry, "The Birds of Anger", and don't miss the opening selection, "The Hunt."

Take a look at the trailers and posters for all three films right here.

The Hunt

"The Hunt" is a terrifying tale of horror that mashes up old-school suspense with the Nintendo classic Duck Hunt.

You've probably never considered the horror potential of the NES launch title, but director Sam Balcomb clearly has. In Balcomb's dark vision of "Duck Hunt," three hapless hunters come face to face with a monstrous entity keen on their demise. It's the perfect film to get you ready for Halloween.

Balcomb is the co-founder of Rainfall Films, and has produced content for Britney Spears, Steven Tyler, ABC Studios, IGN.com, Willow Smith, Katy Perry and more. We think you'll really enjoy his movie.

Pax East Bioshock Infinite Cosplay Meet-Up

G4 and our good friends at Irrational Games are planning the greatest BioShock-themed Cosplay meet-up in human history at Pax East 2012.

Pax East is between April 6 and April 8, and during the show, Irrational's staff will be walking the PAX floor all day Saturday in search of BioShock- and BioShock Infinite – themed cosplayers. If they spot you and they think your costume is awesome, you’ll be given a wristband with instructions on how to attend the meet-up. X-Play will be there, with their trusty cameras, so you'll probably end up famous. Little known fact: This is how Shia LaBeouf  was discovered.

Remember to "bring it" if you're going to dress BioShock -- only the best costumes will be considered.

Speaking of BioShock Infinite, you do NOT want to miss X-Play, tomorrow at 6:30 PM EST. X-Play is coming on strong with an exclusive look at Bioshock Infinite. I can't tell you what it is, but I assure you, it's very, very cool.

We wanted to close G4 Films Epictober Film Festival with a truly amazing short film, Gregg Bishop's "The Birds of Anger."

Inspired by the best-selling mobile game, Rovio's Angry Birds, "The Birds of Anger" harkens back to Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 classic “The Birds,” and gives gamers a glimpse into a world where birds not only target pigs, but people as well.  “The Birds of Anger” is directed by Gregg Bishop, director of the “Dance of the Dead," and stars the great Jaimie Alexander, star of Thor.

Well we're not quite done yet, as we're going to be bringing you three more (short) films the week of October 24th as part of this year's Epictober celebration.

We've somehow managed to rope in former G4tv.com Creative Director and current hot-as-sh*t Hollywood Director Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom, Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2) to oversee the three films and he, in turn, has roped in three excellent horror directors. As we approach Halloween, this trifecta of terror will take on films inspired by Angry Birds, Mario Kart and Duck Hunt produced specifically for your enjoyment.

Dearest Nerds,

One of the upsides of working on an internet website (as opposed to TV, radio or a magazine) is that there are endless opportunities to try new things. Some work, some don't, but either way we get to have fun and it's generally not too expensive when you f**k up. The worst that happens is some anonymous troll says mean things about you in the comments section. I've been at G4 for a decade, thick skin goes along with the territory.

With that in mind, we're going to bring you something new tomorrow: the first installment of G4 Films. Over the next few months (and potentially beyond) we're going to find, develop, produce and license full and short films that are related to the passion we all share… video games.

Tomorrow's film, FOCUS, is a full-length documentary highlighting a year-in-the-life of pro gamer and all around nice guy Mike Ross as he prepares for and competes in EVO 2010. Whether you're into the scene or haven't dropped a quarter in a Street Fighter II machine in years we sincerely hope you enjoy it.

We'll have a couple more films over the course of the summer, culminating in something extra-special in October as part of our now-annual EPICTOBER event (a month's worth of kick-ass exclusives and stunts on G4tv.com, AOTS and X-Play). A trailer for FOCUS is below, check back tomorrow morning to watch the whole thing. And don't forget that G4tv.com's coverage of EVO 2011 starts Friday with livestream coverage from the biggest matches, interviews, special episodes of Fighting Words and more. And the fine folks of X-Play will be shooting a special episode at EVO 2011 set to air in a few weeks.
