EA Confirms Dead Space 2 Multiplayer

Dead Space 3 may exist.

South African retailer BT Games is working overtime today. We learned earlier that they are taking pre-porders for the next Need for Speed as well as for Dead Space 3.

As this supposed-game is only in its rumor stage, we can't tell you when it will come out, what it will be like, who's making it, what consoles it's on or even whether it actually exists. Although, there is a lot of smoke that points to a fire. Examples:

If I were a betting man, though, I'd put a reasonable sum on the existence of Dead Space 3. And I'd guess it's a horror-shooter for the 360, PC and Xbox 360.

Need for Speed: Shift

Need for Speed's next installment in the annual series will be Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2 according to a South African retailer, BT Games. If these rumors prove to be true, the next Need for Speed will be a sequel to 2005's Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Burnout developers, Criterion, is said to be working on it.

No details regarding platform or release date were revealed. EA has not commented on the rumors.

Is Valve Teasing More Portal 2 Content?Valve has updated the Portal and Valve facebook pages with the same image captioned “Hmm… wonder what this could be for?” The image shows a model of P-body with a measuring tape. The tape indicates the P-body model is a foot tall.

I have an active imagination but even I can't figure out what this is. If it wasn't captioned so mysteriously I wouldn't give this image a second glance. What do you think this means?

Are Valve And Apple Working Together To Create A Gaming Console?

Are Valve and Apple working together to create a gaming console? Recent puzzles pieces have all been falling in to place to make this rumor seem not too farfetched. Apple CEO Tim Cook was recently spotted at Valve's HQ and the gaming industry took notice. Apparently it's not everyday that the Apple CEO heads out, especially to visit the gaming industry's king of digital distribution.

Cult of Mac is reporting that Cook's trip to Valve was to discuss, what they're calling, Apple's full-on assault to take over the living room. Apple, aside from just bringing out the rumored Apple HDTV, also allegedly intends to bring out a home gaming console.

Is Farmville 2 in development? While many of you may be moaning and groaning already, Farmville has changed a lot of aspects of the gaming industry for the better, so an innovative sequel might not be such a bad thing. We're not saying it is development or anything, but a listing in San Francisco copywriter Alex Harvey's resume suggests that it may be.

Harvey's resume reads that he, "Contributed concepts and copy for several new business presentations, including the successful Malibu Black and FarmVille 2 pitches," leading us to suspect that Farmville 2 is on its way and that Zynga has given the project a green light.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Did the Grand Theft Auto 5 release date leak? According to Joystiq, Alex O'Dwyer, an employee for Rockstar North over in Scotland, updated his LinkedIn page and his CV, pointing out that the long-awaited open world, bad-mouthed adventure game could be coming in October.

This is all speculation, but O'Dwyer's CV has been pulled so maybe there's more truth to this than we thought? If so, October could be an amazing month for gamers, with the release of GTA5, BioShock Infinite, and Assassin's Creed 3.

We've reached out to Rockstar for a comment, but I doubt they're going to say anything other than, "We don't comment on rumors and speculation." Darn it!

Microsoft Registers

Microsoft has registered a whole slew of "Halo: Infinity" domains from MarkMonitor, an internet brand protection company, including HaloInfinity.net and HaloInfinityMultiplayer.com. Infinity was a  popular canyon-shaped multiplayer map that was only released for Halo: Combat Evolved on the PC.

As several of the registered domain names include something about multiplayer, like HaloInfinityMultiplayer.net and HaloInfinityMultiplayer.org, this could mean that the Infinity map may be coming to Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

The gaming community loves to speculate, especially when we think it's time for a new console generation. In this week's Sessler's Soapbox Adam discusses the rumors and speculation surrounding the next gaming consoles coming from Sony (PS4) and Microsoft (Xbox 720) and expresses what he thinks we, as gamers, need from a new set of hardware. If any of these rumors are true, there is a good chance we will learn more at E3 2012.

Batman: Arkham City's Robin: New Image, Details Emerge

It's looking like Batman: Arkham City will be getting some story-driven DLC, a newly discovered set of PlayStation 3 Trophies reveals. A new set of 10 bronze and silver awards has been added to Arkham City's master list at PS3Trophies, with one of them outing the name of the pack as "Harley Quinn's Revenge."

As you've probably guessed already, it's looking like The Joker's top lieutenant is the Big Bad in this Arkham City add-on. The Trophies also suggest that Robin is the playable vigilante at the heart of the story extension. All of the DLC released for Arkham City thus far has been built around Challenge Rooms (except the whole Catwoman thing). It's a safe bet that if Rocksteady is indeed bringing this DLC add-on to PS3, we'll be seeing it on Xbox 360 and PC platforms as well.

Hit the jump for the full list of Trophies.

The New iPad As A Gaming Device: A Look At Infinity Blade: Dungeons, Sky Gamblers

Apple might be working on a controller for iPhones, iPod touches and iPads, which would end one of the major problems with using those devices as gaming consoles.

The news comes from AnandTech, where writers Vivek Gowri & Anand Lal Shimpio post:

"I know of an internal Apple project to bring a physical controller to market, but whether or not it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. As smartphones and tablets come close to equaling the performance of current game consoles, I feel like the controller problem must be addressed."

Xbox 360 Successor Rumors Surface: Christmas 2013 Release, Dual GPUs, More

The next-generation successor to the Xbox 360 will sport a dual GPU setup, a "four to six" core CPU, built-in Kinect, always-on Internet (to combat piracy), and a Blu-ray drive, numerous unnamed sources have revealed to VG247. The same sources note that the details come straight from Microsoft as it meets with third-parties in advance of the console's release, which is currently targeted for Christmas 2013.

Microsoft is already on record as saying that there won't be any talk "of new Xbox hardware at E3 2012 or anytime soon," from a March 15 statement. That doesn't mean work isn't well underway on whatever hardware will be following the Xbox 360. The lack of reveal doesn't mean that development on the next-gen MS console isn't already well underway. In fact, you can pretty much count on it. Whether or not the specs detailed above are accurate is another matter entirely.

The next PlayStation console, the PS4, may be called (or codenamed) Orbis. The next-gen Sony console rumors come from Kotaku's sources and reveal a holiday 2013 release date.

According to Kotaku's sources, Orbis will have an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU, a high-end PC card. The Orbis would also have a resolution of 4096x2160. Most households don't have HDTVs that are capable of displaying that, yet. The Orbis will be powerful enough to play 3D games in 1080p.

That's all the good news. The bad news:  The system reportedly won't be backwards compatible with PS3 titles. If you think that's surprising, then you're not going to like this. The Orbis will have some type of feature that will prevent gamers from playing used games. Supposedly, games will be purchased on a Blu-ray disc or via PSN download and only be playable on one PSN account. It's not clear how Sony would limit the use of retail copies. It's possible a used copy would only give you access to a trial of the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Reveal Hands-On

A few Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer details may have been leaked via a thread on Activision's forums, which was later taken down by the publisher. The game hasn't even officially been announced, so you should keep in mind that posts like this often show up for upcoming games, claiming details that are later proven false. But, until Activision comes along and tells us otherwise, it's fun to speculate, right?

When Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing originally spoke on the next Call of Duty game, he said, "This year we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first-person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand. From what we've seen to date, the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovations to the franchise."

The most important information we found while scouring the post was the alleged Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 release date. According to the post, the first-person-shooter has an expected release date of November 6, 2012. There will be a new multiplayer game mode, Escort, and Kill Confirmed from Modern Warfare 3 will make a return.

Read on for all of the details.
