Ohio Middle School Removes Nintendo Power Magazine From LibraryBad news, gamers: If reports from Ars Technica turn out to be correct, Nintendo Power magazine is shutting down soon.

According to the source, Nintendo pulled the plug. The company, described as "difficult to work with," was uninterested in renewing its contract with Future Publishing, the group who published the magazine. According to the source, Nintendo is not interested in taking over direct control of Nintendo Power either.

Reportedly, Nintendo Power editors and staffers were told of the magazine's impending closure last weekend are being transitioned to work on other Future magazines and publications like GamesRadar and MacLife magazine.

Fallout 4 Set In Boston?

Posted August 21, 2012 - By Stephen Johnson

Fallout: New Vegas' Lonesome Road DLC Delayed

There are rumors that Fallout 4 will be set in Boston. They're incredibly unsubstantiated--they come from a random poster on a message board--and the game doesn't even officially exist, but it's such an awesome idea that I want to take it seriously and I want it to be true.

According to the reddit commenter:

"Fallout 4 will take place in Boston. In case you haven't heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT. I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that's really all I can say for fear of losing my job. I am telling you it will take place in Boston."

Here's other evidence, from the Fallout universe itself, from Gamespot:

'The Commonwealth' was referenced in 2008's Fallout 3. Four real-world states in the US categorize themselves as Commonwealths: Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Bethesda lead designer Emil Pagliarulo told 1UP in 2009 that the Commonwealth reference in Fallout 3 was in fact speaking about Massachusetts, not any of the other three states.

Metal Gear Solid 4

The next Metal Gear game, which I assume will be Metal Gear Solid 5, won't be released until Summer 2013 at the soonest. This information comes from Erick Bossick, a mo-cap actor working  “on a future Metal Gear” with Kojima Productions.

In an interview with Silent Haven, Bossick mentioned he was working on the next Metal Gear title, but production was still in the early phases.

“My past motion capture session was for upcoming Metal Gear game,” said Bossick. “I will be back with Kojima again in the fall, and maybe other sessions. This title is a long way off."

Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age 3 details may have been revealed thanks to an alleged BioWare survey. Some of the leaked information has made its way to the BioWare Forums and NeoGAF. They speculate gamers will play as the leader of a new group, The Inquisition. I bet no one expected that.

"From the ashes of that explosion, something new rises: The Inquisition. As the Inquisitor, it falls to you to build up your power and martial your forces, uncover secrets and build connections across the world. You must explore forgotten spaces, uncover ancient mysteries and uproot those who would destroy the fabric of the world."

OnLive Getting Wi-Fi Support, Half-Off Labor Day Sale

Update -- 4:30 PM: The internet rumor mill continues to crank away. According to a source quoted by Engadget, more than half of OnLive's staff was laid off today, a move that comes just as the company is being purchased by another, unnamed firm.

Kotaku reports that OnLive has filed for a "bankruptcy-like process" called Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors. This status gives financially troubled companies a level of protection from creditors.

A "reliable source" reported on by TechCrunch says OnLive’s founder and CEO Steve Perlman has found a buyer for the company who has purchased all the intellectual property of OnLive, and that the massive staff reductions are teh result of trying to reduce the company's liability.  The plan is, reportedly, to keep OnLive up and running.

Original Story:

According to reports on the Internet, game-streaming service OnLive is shutting its doors, although OnLive itself has denied that the company is closing.

Unnamed sources told Mashable that OnLive called an "all hands meeting" this morning, at which the entire OnLive staff was fired. Brian Fargo of inXile Entertainment backs up the initial report, tweeting that he received an email from OnLive reading:

Electronic Arts Looks Toward More Price Cuts, Digital Sales, Motion Controls

According to the New York Post, EA may soon be sold. Unnamed sources report that the publisher has been approached by private-equity firms KKR and Providence Equity Partners about a potential sale, although the talks are in their early stages.

“They’ve made it known they’d do a deal at $20 a share,” said a source.

EA isn't commenting on the potential deal, saying that it doesn't comment on rumors or speculation. The equity firms aren't talking either. So for now, file this under "unconfirmed" for now. We'll obviously keep you updated if anything further develops.

Team Fortress 2 Celebrates Halloween With Scream Fortress

Clues are pointing to Valve adding a new faction to Team Fortress 2, and they may be Robots.

It all started when Valved launched its "most fiendishly difficult" ARG. That led some gamers to notice new bloodstains had appeared on the Team Fortress 2 logo on the main page of Valve's site. They linked to this page,  and eventually to this comic.

A little backstory of Team Fortress: The "story" behind the game is that two brothers, Blutarch and Redmond, with the last name "Mann" are fighting over gravel. The new links suggest the existence of a third brother, Gray Mann, may exist to bedevil Blue Mann and Red Mann.

The prevailing theory in gaming is that all of this is pointing to a “Mann Vs. Machine” update. Gray Mann, the theory goes, will bring his robots in and they will function as an entirely new faction in TF 2.  We could also see the introduction of new modes, or some other, as yet unforeseen revelations.

Valve may have been dropping these hints in their games as early as two years ago, as evidenced by this YouTube video:

Next-Gen Xbox Development Kit Sells For $20,000

An eBay auction for a supposed next-gen Xbox Developer Kit (code-named "Durango") has ended. Someone paid $20,000 for a first-look at the next Xbox. It seems like the auction was originated by the same person who showed off some pictures of a supposed Durango developer kit a few weeks ago.

The unassuming black box, which was supposedly sent to developers back in February, contains parts similar to those you'll find in a "standard gaming PC." The the kit includes an Intel CPU, a NVIDIA graphics card, 8 GB of RAM and a 64-bit operating system.

Wii U's Online Service Won't Require A Subscription

The Wii U is slated for Fall 2012, but Nintendo has been mum on a release date. CVG is now reporting that manufacturing issues will prevent the console from launching in that window in Europe. Due to an issue with the Wii U Gamepad, a device that is both a controller and a tablet, the Wii U might not launch until December. These manufacturing problems are said to be the reason Nintendo has yet to lock down a launch date.

The report goes on to say Nintendo is dead-set on releasing the Wii U before the Thanksgiving holiday in the US,  giving consumers ample time to buy it for the Holiday season.

Road to E3 2011: The Microsoft Report Card

It's that time again; time to speculate about the next-gen Xbox. This time rumor has it the Xbox 720 will be released within the next 18 months, and it will support skype. These claims come courtesy of a few Microsoft job listings.

The first listing is no longer listed. Luckily, Digital Spy copied the information.

It says, "Over the next 18 months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface."

Mass Effect 3 Razer Peripherals Include DLC

Script information hidden in Mass Effect 3's Extended Cut DLC hints more changes to the scenes leading up to the ending, specifically dialogue choices, for gamers who download Leviathan. The upcoming DLC for Mass Effect 3 will give gamers extra dialogue choices when speaking with the Star Child. Shepard will be able to ask more questions about the Reapers' origins, a question blocked previously with a "You probably haven't heard of them" answer. Answers about the Leviathan, itself, are expected too.

BioWare has stated they will not change the ending further, but maybe they're okay with changing scenes leading up to it.

The Leviathan content pack will delve deeper into Reapers' origins, and their creator: the Leviathan.

Black Ops 2 Secrets & Easter Eggs: Top

Detailed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 single player, multiplayer, weapons, and zombie info has leaked from an anonymous Associate Producer at Activision. Keep in mind that lists like this leak all the time and usually a lot of the content found within them are either totally made up, or don't make it in to the game. Basically what I'm saying is take the following information with a grain of salt as none of it has been confirmed by Activision. If it does turn out to be legitimate though, we now have a ton of details on one of the most highly anticipated first-person shooters coming this year.

This your spoiler alert.

According to the posting on Dual Shockers, Black Ops 2's story will revolve around Frank Woods as an old man reliving his missions with Alex Mason, and Raul Menendez, a terrorist who's trying to start a war with the world's drone army. The two stories will be interconnected through flashbacks and some of your actions will effect the story.

Throughout your single-player adventure you'll be traveling to places like Afghanistan, Angola, Panama, Haiti, Pakistan, Al Jinan, Singapore, Nicaragua, Los Angeles, and Yemen. Single player will also have perks this time around. An example of a single player perk is brute force, which will allow your character to access certain areas of the game that would otherwise be inaccessible.

The footage in the YouTube video below reportedly shows off the Spartan Laser in Halo 4 as well as the game's sniper rifle..

If it's legit (and it sure looks legit), I'm not sure how YouTube user roverdover24 got his hands on it, or whether the finished game's Spartan Laser will look like this when Halo 4 comes out on November 6, but still, it's a pretty cool 10 seconds of video for the Halo faithful... so watch it quick, before it gets taken down.

Wii U Boxart Revealed?

Amazon Canada has posted a few images of game boxart for Wii U titles. A Wii U launch line-up has not been announced, as a release date for the console hasn't been revealed either.

The three Wii U games are Just Dance 4, Assassin's Creed 3, and Avengers: Battle for Earth. They are all Ubisoft titles. The release dates for these games are listed as the date their 360 and PS3 counter parts are being released, which is most likely an oversight on Amazon's part.

Do you think this is actual Wii U boxart?
