Dead Or Alive 5 Demo: Hands-on And Details!

The as-yet-unrevealed full roster of fighters in Tecmo Koei's Dead or Alive 5 may have been leaked, a NeoGAF post reveals (via Kotaku). Unidentified hackers allegedly discovered the information buried inside the code for the playable DoA5 demo that was included with Ninja Gaiden 3.

There are 25 characters in all on the list. Two are completely new and three others are visitors from the Virtua Fighter series. The hackers also supposedly discovered as many as six alternate costumes for various fighters. To be clear: take all of this as a rumor for now. Even if the info found in the demo's executable really exists, that list still might not be final. Hit the jump for the full breakdown.

Head Mounted Display

A patent for a headset display filed by Microsoft may point to the future of the gaming. The patent, spotted by PatentBolt, reveals that Microsoft is working on two different styles of display-headsets. The first looks like an aviation helmet, and is aimed at gamers. The other is a smaller, sunglasses-size device that would work with your phone or MP3 player -- so more for personal use.

There are some serious technical issues to overcome with any head (or glasses) mounted display -- showing an image that close to a person's eyes comes with a host of problems -- but Microsoft's new patent indicates part of the plan for overcoming these hurdles. Below is a block of text from PatentBolt that lays out partially how the device will work:

As the human eye can't focus on images less than a few centimeters away, a compact display system may be configured to provide the display image as a virtual image--e.g., an image formed in a focal plane located more than a few centimeters from the eye. One challenge in this field is to form such an image using a compact, robust optical arrangement, which also provides suitable image resolution and fidelity

Soul Reaver Reboot Rumored For Crystal Dynamics

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is reportedly working on a reboot of the Legacy of Kain series, and specifically on a re-tooled Soul Reaver, according to an anonymous source speaking to VG247. The rebooted game will apparently embrace a new art direction, but the details pretty much stop there.

There seem to be conflicting reports concerning when this potential reboot will be revealed. VG247 previously heard that the plan was for the initial looks to come in 2012, "possibly at E3," but the more recent source indicated that that may not be the case. Crystal Dynamics presumably has a big E3 ahead already, what with its Tomb Raider reboot ostensibly coming our way later on in 2012.

The Legacy of Kain series has been without a proper new release since 2003's not-terrible PS2/Xbox/PC game Legacy of Kain: Defiance. A reveal next year in 2013 would make it a solid decade since the previous Kain game, and a 2014 release would mark the 15-year anniversary since Soul Reaver's launch. Just saying. You can be sure that there will be more news from Crystal Dynamics at E3 2012.

Bethesda, the studio behind Skyrim and Fallout 3 may be working on an iOS game. A recent job listing on ZeniMax's careers website reveals that the company is looking for an experience iOS developer with a familiarity of Bethesda's games.

Bethesda didn't list any details on the type of iOS game they may or may not be working on, which is a shame. But thanks to the processing and graphical power of the recently released iPad 3, it's likely we'll see something pretty incredible. Bethesda could even port their older titles to the platform. Or, maybe, the iOS could be the platform that the rumored Elder Scrolls Online might be coming out for?

Of course that's all speculation, but at the very least I know I'd be interested in playing a game from Bethesda on my iPhone. If you want to get a job in the gaming industry, why don't you check out our How To Get A Job In Video Games: Your Career Resource Guide

WoW iPhone?

Blizzard is still actively looking into adapting World of Warcraft for mobile devices, specifically the iPhone. The World of Warcraft Mobile Armory App is the closet WoW gamers can currently get to gaming on the go.

John Lagrave, a senior producer for WoW, told Eurogamer Blizzard is still working on making WoW on the iOS a reality.

"Here's your platform,[holding an iPhone] you've got to put an interface, what do you do? So yes we have and we always are. Maybe we'll stumble on the great way to put WOW on the phone - maybe we won't, but we're certainly looking into it.

Shenmue And Skies Of Arcadia May Be Coming To XBLA

Dreamcast classics Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia may be coming to XBLA if what was said at recent Sega event is to be believed/interpreted positively. Sega Brand Manager, Ben Harborne, was asked in a Jet Set Radio GRTV interview if fan feedback was fuelling further Dreamcast re-releases onto XBLA. He said, if that was the case, the game would be Shenmue.

"That or Skies of Arcadia," he said. "They're a couple of our most requested games," he continued. "I can't say 'yes' or 'no', but we may be working on them."

I never got the chance to play Shenmue, but I always loved Skies of Arcadia and wouldn't mind playing it again if was rereleased on XBLA. Which would you prefer to play?

CES 2011: The Video Games of the Microsoft Booth - Fable 3 and Age of Empires Online

A job listing spotted by Super Annuation seems to confirm what we already know: Microsoft is working on the Xbox 720.

The listing was pulled, but thanks to the magic of the internet, you can still read it. Here's the juicy part of the job listing:

"The ISS Console Multimedia Team, responsible for designing and developing the next generation console, is looking for a highly motivated and skilled audio developer. If you love gaming, game audio and music, then join us as an integral part of the team tasked to revolutionize audio for the next generation of Xbox."

We still have no solid information on the system, but the conventional wisdom holds that Microsoft could make a big announcement at E3 this year... seems like the perfect time for it.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer DLC Leak Reveals Possible New Character Class

Mass Effect 3 multiplayer DLC may have been leaked. An image, allegedly taken from the Mass Effect 3 developer server, popped up on reddit showing new playable character classes and was then posted to Facebook. I'm hardly a photoshop expert so I can't comment on the image. I am a DLC expert and I think it's pretty obvious that ME3's multiplayer DLC will offer more character classes.

Final Fantasy 13-2 DLC Brings Jihl Nabaat To The Coliseum

It's been revealed that the next piece of DLC for Final Fantasy 13-2 will feature Jihl Nabaat, one of the villains from Final Fantasy 13. The DLC is rumored to be dropping on March 13, but so far Square Enix hasn't officially confirmed the release date.

The Jihl Nabaat DLC will most likely feature the character as an end-game Coliseum battle, where players will have to defeat her in combat in order to have her join your party. Once we have more info on the DLC we'll be able to tell you all about it.

For now, what do you think of Jihl potentially making her way in to the FF13-2 world? Will you shell out a few bucks to play as her?

Valve's Steam Logo

Valve, the developer behind gaming successes Portal, Half-Life, and more, are considering making their mark in the hardware business with The "Steam Box". According to an article from The Verge, the developer is toying with the idea of creating a set-top console that could compete with the Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii.

Valve's co-founder Gabe Newell told Penny Arcade, "We'd rather hardware people that are good at manufacturing and distributing hardware do [hardware]. We think it's important enough that if that's what we end up having to do, then that's what we end up having to do."

Perhaps they've decided that now is the time that it's important enough to go this route. Unconfirmed sources say that Valve is working on a hardware spec and the associated software that would make up the Steam Box. Sources are saying that meetings were held during CES 2012 to demo a hand-built version of the device.

Allegedly, the Steam Box would include a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA GPU. It would be able to run any standard PC title, and it would be a great way to bring Valve's extremely popular digital distribution service Steam in to the living room.

Diablo 3 Preview - New Traits System, Revamped Runes, Skill Shuffle, and the Talisman!

A post has shown up on Italian video game web site MMORPG-Italy leaking the supposed release date of Diablo 3, Blizzard Entertainment's long-awaited dungeon crawler. This information is of course unconfirmed by Blizzard, but the fansite reveals that according to several large retailers, the Italian release date of the game would be April 17, or around Easter.

However, before you get too excited, let's look at a few facts supporting an Easter release date. First, this lines up pretty well with information that Inc.Gamers got, saying that there'd be a Diablo 3 release announcement coming very soon, or around March 5. Plus, CeBIT starts on March 6 in Germany, and Blizzard is attending with Diablo 3.

Trials Evolution Release Date Posted On Xbox.com, Quickly Disappears

A release date of April 18, 2012 for RedLynx's Trials Evolution appeared in a new product listing yesterday on Xbox.com before it was wiped away and replaced with the much more nebulous launch date of "12/31/2799." That changed date is probably not accurate, FYI. The April 18 window is a distinct possibility, however.

Evolution is a sequel to the 2009 RedLynx game Trials HD, a game involving motorcycles, physics, careful analog stick control and no small amount of frustrated cursing and angrily flailing arms. The sequel adds multiplayer for up to four riders as well as a map creation/sharing feature. It should be making an appearance at GDC next week; perhaps we'll hear more about release plans then.

Do you think the next CoD gme will ship in November?

Doom 4: Screenshots Leak?

A bunch of Doom 4,screenshots have supposedly leaked onto the internets. The images come by way of AllGamesBeta, who pulled them down from 4chan, and they show off some character models and environments supposedly for the upcoming shooter. There are 170 images in total, showing off many aspects of Doom 4.

The original release of images was accompanied by the news that Doom 4 was canceled, but developer Bethesda shot down that rumor. I checked with Bethesda, and I'm waiting to hear back with their official word.
