Wii U

We've got some new details to share with you for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 this morning from two rather unlikely sources. First up is an Activision sizzle reel meant to show off the publisher's "launch window" lineup for the Wii U. The video is similar to what ran when Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg took the stage during Nintendo's price/release date reveal, but there's a bunch of fresh, new Black Ops 2 footage tacked onto the end of it (via Polygon).

Among the new footage are oh-so-brief looks at features, most likely from the campaign, that we haven't seen yet. Uniformed soldiers soaring through a rocky valley in wingsuits. An entire freaking squadron of jetpack-wearing grunts. You know... dumb stuff that no one could possibly care about. You can see that video above.

Black Ops 2

Adam "The Riveter" Rosenberg checked out Blops 2 on the Wii U and brought back a stirring Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for Wii U preview.

As you'd probably guess, the main innovation in Black Ops 2 for the Wii U is the use of the new system's embedded-screen controller. Here's how Adam described it in his Black Ops 2 Wii U preview:

Most excitingly, the GamePad will be able to serve as a second screen for local multiplayer, which means no more split-screen play when it's you and a buddy on the couch. The controller's screen is a little on the small side but there don't appear to be any display-based sacrifices made beyond that, as I learned shortly after the press conference during a hands-on demonstration. The GamePad can also function like a satellite screen for the Wii U, so you can pick up your game from anywhere "in the house" without having to be in front of the TV.

Rayman Legends is looking like one of the most interesting titles coming to the Wii U, especially in terms of how the game makes use of the Wii U's unique gamepad. As you can see in the video below, Rayman Legends'  "asymmetrical" gameplay allows three player to play the game, and one "God" player to control the playing field.

In the video below, Rayman creator Michel Ancel shows off some of the cool features of the Wii U. "In Rayman Legends, we really wanted to create new experiences with the touch capbility of the Wii U," Ancel says, "So we used the gamepad in new ways."

It helps to see it in action to understand. Click "play."

Wii U's Online Service Won't Require A Subscription

Nintendo's got a big Wii U event happening in New York City tomorrow, but hours earlier the company will at last reveal the price and release date for its upcoming console. We've known for awhile that "fall 2012" was the target, and this 11th hour confirmation ought to cause a big splash as we race forward into the holiday shopping season.

Nintendo confirmed the timing via a tweet from company president Satoru Iwata on its Japanese feed (via Joystiq). The price and release date will be announced via a streaming presentation at 4pm Japan time, which converts to 3am EST/12am PST. It's possible that the livestream will focus only on the Japan launch, with the U.S. price and release date coming later on at the NYC event.

In any event, keep it locked to G4 for the latest news as Nintendo finally reveals what you've been waiting to hear.
