Wii U

All rise. The court of TheFeed is now in session. The honorable Jake “Fake Judge” Gaskill presiding. It is the opinion of this court that video games are…what’s that?...the Supreme Court already handed down its ruling on California’s violent video game law?...7-2?...Oh, I see. Well, let's get on with it.

As you've no doubt heard, this is a big week for the games industry, thanks to t but in case you were too busy, I don't know, playing games or something, then you definitely want to check out this week’s episode of Feedback, as Adam Sessler is joined by Casey Schreiner, Stephen Johnson, and Nikole Zivalich to discuss what is arguably the most significant legal decision in gaming history. (For more, be sure to check out Adam's in-depth look at the Supreme Court's decision, and if you have no idea what this whole case is about, brush up here.)

And, as if to honor said decision, the Feedback crew also examines and cross examines the game of the week, the cheeky horror shooter Shadows of the Damned. So if you're into legal jargon and penis-inspired gun puns, you've certainly come to the right place!

Super Smash Bros For The Wii U And 3DS Don't Have A Dev Teams Yet

Super Smash Bros games for the Wii U and 3DS were announced earlier this month at E3 2011. The announcement was made prematurely in hopes of recruiting a development staff. Neither game currently have a team dedicated to making the titles. Project Sora's Masahiro Sakurai will be leading the two Super Smash Bros. games but he and his team are busy working on another Nintendo title. "Right now, we're devoting all our manpower to working on Kid Icarus," Sakurai said in Famitsu.

"We've got no plans whatsoever -- we've got two new games out in the open when there's no extra time to work with them at all. It makes me cringe, and I'm not sure it's the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members."

Keep reading for more from Sakurai.

Zelda HD Game For The Wii U Possible -- Shigeru Miyamoto Hopeful

Zelda HD for the Wii U is a definite possibility, not that it really surprises us. Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to Kotaku that Nintendo wants to create an HD Zelda title. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is not having a dual release on the Wii and Wii U. Nintendo rarely launches a console without a Zelda game. I don't think Nintendo wants the Wii U to be the GameCube of this console gen, know what I mean?

Keep reading to see what Shigeru Miyamoto said.

Bejeweled 3 Announced, Coming In December

Popcap Games has announced that gem-matching puzzle game Bejeweled 3 is coming to every conceivable platform. That means versions on the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PSN, Xbox 360, and Xbox Live Arcade. That's five* versions of the game, all launching simultaneously in late 2011. It will feature twice the game modes of its predecessor, eight mini-games, and an audio-visual overhaul. So there.

Yes, I realize Bejeweled is a "casual" game, but Jake "Hardcore" Gaskill liked it enough to include it in his top five games of 2010, and seriously, there are few harder-core gamers than a Bejeweled addict getting a fix.

Check out our verdict on Bejeweled 3 and ask yourself whether you really want to take that first hit...

*I guess there will be a retail PS3 copy on a disc and PSN version for download. This way every type of "gamer" can play. We've contacted Popcap for confirmation and we'll be sure to update you once this is confirmed.

SONY

Nintendo's Wii U announcement didn't pressure Sony to work on the PS4 according to SCEA's Jack Tretton. "If you're looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us," said Tretton.

The Wii U's technology wasn't an indicator of the changing times. "I didn't see anything about Nintendo's announcement that said 'Oh, we'd better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon," Tretton said.

Last week, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon featured a different video game each night. Video game week ended with a huge blast: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime showing off The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, some Kid Icarus on the 3DS, and the Wii U. I don't know about you, but I could watch Jimmy Fallon play video games all day long. Not only is he funny, but he's obviously a legit gamer. Check out the video below:

E3 2011 might be grower smaller and smaller in our rear view mirrors, but that doesn’t mean we’re done nerding out about all the ridiculous sights and sounds burned into our brains from the show. Seriously, some things can never be unseen (a Kinect-powered jockey game, anyone?). Still, it was a solid show with tons of great titles on display, which is why for this week’s Feedback, Adam Sessler welcomes Matt Keil, Emily Gordon, and yours truly to discuss G4’s Best of E3 2011 nominations. Also on the chatting block is Sucker Punch’s supercharged sequel inFamous 2. It’s a full show, so quit reading this, and watch now!

Ghost Recon Online

While Nintendo hasn't been known for its appeal to the hardcore gaming world lately, the just-announced Wii U may change that trend, especially given the depth and control possibilities inherent in the device's controller-mounted touchscreen. Adam Rosenberg got a chance to check out Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online on the Wii U at E3 2011, and brought back a preview. Here's a sample:

"Of the two gameplay demos Ubisoft showed off during a Nintendo roundtable at E3 2011 for the upcoming Wii U console, Ghost Recon Online was the most complete. That probably has something to do with the fact that it’s not exclusive to the platform, though fortunately, an impressive range of tablet-enhanced features will apparently make this version of the game the one to beat."

Wii U: Nintendo's New Console;

A handful of Wii U related domain names have been made active by Nintendo. The domains currently redirect to Nintendo's homepage. Many of the domains are established Wii titles with a "U" docked on. For example, "WiiFitU.com" and "WiiPartyU.com." It's not clear if these domains will be used for actual games or if they are simply buying up domains before other people do.

Wii U E3 2011

If you were hoping to watch DVDs or Blu-Rays on your Wii U, you're out of luck: According to Nintendo, the next-generation console will not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities.

Nintendo feels that you already have enough ways to play discs in your living room. Here's the quote, from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in an investor Q&A:

"We feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn't warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies."

While it hasn't been confirmed yet, you have to figure you'll be able to download and/or stream movies to your Wii U. In an ideal world, you'll also be able to watch said streaming movies from either your TV or the Wii U's unique controller-with-a-screen.

Devil's Third Dated For 2013, Possible Wii U Release

Devil's Third won't be released until 2013. Tomonobu Itagaki is taking his sweet time on his next project and is even considering making the game for the Wii U. Devil's Third' publisher, THQ, also has their eyes on Nintendo's new console. A recent THQ earnings report hinted that Devil's Third would be released before the end of fiscal 2012, which would be before March 31, 2013. Itagaki confirmed Devil's Third would most likely be released in early 2013.

Wii U Hands-On Impressions -- Battle Mii and Zelda HD

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will not be a Wii U title. Many gamers, myself include, assumed Skyward Sword would release on both the Wii and Wii U, similar to the way Twilight Princess was released on both the Wii and GameCube. VentureBeat had the chance to talk with Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo about the Wii U. They asked if the Wii U's controller prevented the game from having a dual platform release. Fils-Aime confirmed their suspicions, "Correct. And it’s because Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was built to be played with a Wii controller."

Wii U E3 2011

Sega executive Alan Pritchard may have let the release season for the Nintendo Wii U slip. According to a statement he recently made about Sonic Generations,  "the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer."

The Wii and GameCube launched in November and the Nintendo 64 launched in September. Spring is not a season Nintendo usually launches a console in. Do you think Pritchard misspoke or is Nintendo trying something new?

To read the entire statement with full context keep reading.
