Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC Release Date Announced -- Closure Is Coming

When Mass Effect 3 is released for Wii U, the disc will come pre-loaded with the recently released extended cut DLC that expands the game's ending with new cutscenes and dialogue. BioWare's Michael Gamble confirmed as much in a chat with Siliconera, though he made no mention of WHEN we might see said Wii U port. Presumably sometime after the console is released this fall.

Gamble also made no mention of the other DLC released so far for Mass Effect 3, all of which is tied to the game's Galaxy at War multiplayer mode. One would assume that it's all packed in as well, but with the continued deafening silence from post-E3 Nintendo in the realm of all things Wii U it's really still too early to be making any assumptions.

Wii U E3 2011

All signs point to the WiiU having a November release date, if new game listings are to be believed that is. D3 Publisher have announced that their game, Rise of the Guardians, will be released on November 23 for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U. However, this isn't the only game for the Wii U that has a November release date set.

In these ZombiU gameplay videos from Comic-Con 2012, Ubisoft offers up two mighty compelling reasons for gamers who can’t wait to write off the WiiU to curb their kneejerk skepticism. The first video takes place in a super creepy abandoned nursery (redundant?) and shows off lockpicking, inventory management, and, of course, zombie killing, and the second has you sniping undead with a crossbow and bashing in skulls with a cricket bat in the streets outside of Buckingham Palace. Seriously, if you don’t think ZombiU looks rad after watching these, U have a scU lUse.

Ubisoft debuted new Assassin's Creed 3's gameplay on X-Play's opening night show from Comic-Con 2012, and lucky for you, we just happened to have said gameplay right here for you to enjoy/drool over right now! Seriously, did you see that part where Connor puts that dude's head through that pitchfork on that rack of farm equipment? Come on!

Tomorrow Corporation did excellent work on the physics-based puzzler World of Goo, and the newly released trailer for its next game, Little Inferno, shows equal amounts of promise. You won't actually see any gameplay in the above tease, but the premise alone -- bringing warmth into a cold world by burning ALL THE TOYS -- is enough to sell it.

The game is confirmed for release in winter 2012 for Wii U -- remember, Goo was a big deal on WiiWare -- and PC/Mac/Linux. Tomorrow will be running a paid beta program, giving those who put down a $15 pre-order for the game access to the beta once it launches. The developer won't simply open the floodgates; beta participants will be admitted in stages, based on how early their pre-order is placed. All pre-orders also include immediate access to a preview of the soundtrack.

A fourth Super Smash Bros. game was just announced, but it wasn’t until this month that lead developer Masahiro Sakurai told us the game was officially in the first stages of development. It’s time to start daydreaming about which characters we’d like to see added to the series.

Super Smash Bros. loves to draw from first-party characters before anything else, and we can still think of a few proper Nintendo stars we’d like to see in the lineup, but the well is beginning to run a little dry. We actually considered adding Starman from the old NES Pro Wrestling game to the list for a while.

Namco Bandai is co-developing the game. Other third-party studios have worked on Smash Bros. games before, but Namco Bandai has its own stable of recognizable characters, and we hope that by bringing them into the project Nintendo is signaling even more openness to third-party characters in Smash Bros. than ever before.

We’d therefore like to offer two lists of characters we would love to see in the next Smash Bros. game, beginning with the first-party characters.

Little Mac from Punch-Out!!!

Little Mac made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as an Assist Trophy, but has never been a playable character himself. Adding a championship boxer to the lineup in a fighting game is a no-brainer. A souped-up uppercut would make for a great Final Smash.

Google Glass Price And Release Date Revealed

Augmented reality in video games, much like 3D or motion gaming, has yet to shed itself of the label as just another gimmick. Indeed, in the decades since the first home console, almost nothing has changed. We still sit on the couch with a controller in our hands playing a box that’s plugged into the TV. I can say with confidence now that the hype surrounding the Wii has worn off, and the Kinect/Move failed to enact any serious change within the industry.

If there is one element of gaming that is in a constant state of flux, it’s mobile gaming. The 3DS is almost alien technology compared to the original Gameboy. And don’t get me started on the technological marvel that is the PS Vita. So while new tech struggles to take root in console gaming, it may find a happy home in mobile games. That is if it can ever get off the ground.

What I’ve noticed about all augmented reality technology is that it makes for one hell of a YouTube video. We all drooled over Google’s Project Glass video. Vita’s November trailer demonstrating a number of augmented reality games in development raised more than a few eyebrows. I vaguely remember a video wherein an iPhone was used to shoot space invaders attacking an augmented city skyline. But when push comes to shove, either these technologies were never realized, or the realization just wasn’t what people expected or wanted.

Super Smash Bros For The Wii U And 3DS Don't Have A Dev Teams Yet

The new Super Smash Bros teased for Nintendo's next console, the Wii U, won't boast a massive roster of playable characters. Brawl, the Wii version of Super Smash Bros, featured 35 characters, many of which had similar fight styles. Masahiro Sakurai, the lead director of the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros, has announced his plans for the game's roster.

"It isn’t a matter of ‘if the next game has 50 characters, that’ll be enough.’ There is a certain charm to games that have huge casts of playable characters, but they tend to have issues with game balance and it becomes very difficult to fine-tune each character and have them all feel distinctive…. In terms of quantity, we’ve probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible. I think a change of direction may be what’s needed. "

Wii U's Online Service Won't Require A Subscription

Nintendo's going to be upping its online gaming presence with the Wii U, and now we have confirmation that you won't be required to pay extra dollars for those features, like you would with Xbox Live Gold. Company president Satoru Iwata confirmed the detail at Nintendo's annual shareholder's meeting, as reported by Andriasang.

Iwata didn't rule out the possibility of a paid service that allows users on other, non-Wii U devices to connect to the Nintendo Network. He also made it clear that a paid subscription model isn't right for the upcoming console, arguing that freely available online features will encourage hardware and software sales. That said, seeing as we're still not really sure of how the Wii U's online features will operate, it's probably best to just relax and wait for more details to be revealed.

Microsoft's SmartGlass technology and the Wii U have been compared dozens of times ever since E3 2012. Some people think that since SmartGlass will interact with your entertainment, it will be able to do everything and anything the Wii U can do, but better. The thing is, the two pieces of tech do very different things, and in the video below, Blair Herter, Polygon Sr. Reporter Mike McWhertor and Gameological Society Writer Gus Mastrapa go in-depth with the two devices to set the record straight.

We've already brought you a ton of info on upcoming Wii U survival horror game ZombiU, from ZombiU gameplay videos to ZombiU developer interviews to a ZombiU hands-on preview, but there's nothing quite like a shot-off-the-screen YouTube video for that "underground" vibe, and a demonstration of how, exactly, the Wii U Gamepad will interact with ZombiU.

Check out ten full minutes of ZombiU in the video below.

(Disclaimer, I really, really love this game.)

NBA 2K13 Cover Triple Dunks With Durant, Griffin, And Rose

2K Sports and Visual Concepts have officially revealed the cover art for the upcoming NBA 2K13, and there's just too much awesome in this year's release for a single cover athlete to capture it all. So 2K brought in three: Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls share the spotlight in touched-up photo that shows the trio of players frozen mid-dunk.

The idea in selecting these three former NBA Rookie of the Year winners is to showcase the "New Dynasty" in NBA 2K13, following the 2011's game's focus on the legends of the sport. NBA 2K12's cover featured Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, with one apiece appearing on the game's three different cover variants. The split is gone in 2K13, with all three players sharing the spotlight on the cover of the October 2, 2012 release.

If you're wondering how Visual Concepts can possibly top the work done on last year's exceptional game then you should definitely check out our NBA 2K13 E3 2012 preview.

We've known about the tech behind Nintendo's Wii U for a year now, but how will it work with games? In the video below, Tiffany Smith goes hands-on with coming Wii U launch titles Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land,  New Super Mario Bros. U,  and Nintendo Land.

Just Dance 4 Announced

The release date of Just Dance 4 has been announced by Ubisoft. You'll be able to shake it to the beat on October 9, 2012 for the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will also be out for the Wii U once the console is released, hopefully later this year.

Just Dance 4 will feature a fresh set list including over 40 songs like, "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 ft.  Christina Aguilera and "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction. (All songs I personally love bobbing my head to in the car.) The game's also added the Just Dance-Off mode, where you can challenge your friends in six rounds of dance battles. Just Sweat It Out mode's also been upgraded, with brand new personalized sessions, programs, live feedback, and a real calorie counter.

To date, the Just Dance franchise has sold over 30 million copies, so we're excited to see how Just Dance 4 is going to do. Are you going to move like Jagger this fall?

Wii U E3 2011

Could Nintendo's new console, the Wii U, be off to a rough start before it even has a release date? According to an article on Kotaku, the Wii U may not be powerful enough to keep up with the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It seems that Nintendo is following the model that was so successful with the Nintendo Wii: Put out a lower-power machine first, but make up for the lack of horsepower with an innovative control scheme.

"After the next generation of machines comes out, Wii U will be a performance orphan," one industry insider who is familiar with the specs of the Wii U, said to Kotaku. "It will be closer in performance to the next iPad than the next-gen machines. "

By 2014 we're probably going to be seeing the next Xbox and PlayStation, and these machines will almost certainly boast more impressive specs than what we've already seen on the Wii U. Insiders have stated that the Wii U's 2 GB of RAM is impressive now, compared to say an Xbox 360's 512MB of RAM, but when the next-gen consoles come along and are 6-8 time more powerful than they are now, they'll once again leave Nintendo's console in the dust in terms of processing power.

On top of that, many industry-watcher are skeptical about whether the Wii U will be able to run Unreal Engine 4 games right out of the box. That's the engine many major development houses will likely be using to create games in the coming years.
