SteelSeries is known for creating some of the best high-end PC gaming peripherals and their Diablo 3 headset and mouse are no exception. We got to speak with Kim Rom, CMO at SteelSeries, during E3 2011 where he detailed the ins and outs of the products which will release alongside Blizzard's new action role playing game.

As a PC gamer I can state first hand that paying for an expensive mouse only to have it break after a few million clicks is extremely frustrating. The simple fact that the Diablo 3 mouse is durable enough to last for 10 million clicks is incredible and I can't wait to test that puppy out.

Captain America: Super Solider might put fans of ol' Cap in the right place this July, which is to say on their couch, game controllers in hand, tossing the star-spangled shield about virtual Nazi-infested WWII locales. The game will feature writing by comic book author Cristos Gage, who you may know from several tie-ins to Marvel's Secret Invasion event. We caught up with Derrek Peel, brand manager at SEGA, producers of Super Soldier, and he shared with us some details of The First Avenger's early adventures:

Captain America: Super Soldier sticks it to the Nazi hordes July 19, 2011.


Skullgirls may not be the biggest name on the resurging fighting game market, but it just might be the most adorable-yet-hardcore one. Featuring - what else? - girls with things on their skulls, the animated 2D fighter issticking to what makes fighters the genre we all love and/or hate: fighting. Adam Rosenburg scoped out the game at the E3 2011 show, and here's just a tiny sample of what he had to say:

"The big feature that Skullgirls touts ahead of other 2D fighters is its infinite detection system. If you've ever played this sort of game and found yourself screaming "CHEAP!" as your opponent bashed you over and over again with the same, unbreakable move, you'll appreciate this. Essentially, if the game detects that one fighter is performing this sort of attack, the chain can eventually be broken with a single button press. It's not exactly a leveling of the playing field between the casual and the hardcore, but at least it gives newcomers more of a fighting change against veterans who are happy to abuse specific moves."

I personally am not sure what to make of the Fighting Game Renaissance. On one hand, it's a genre I've always loved and demanded quality from. On the other, I was never quite so depressed in my gaming life as when I went online only to have my butt handed to me repeatedly with Mortal Kombat. So if Skullgirls can compete with the big kids - and it looks like it can! - maybe I can still cling to hope.

E3 2011 might be grower smaller and smaller in our rear view mirrors, but that doesn’t mean we’re done nerding out about all the ridiculous sights and sounds burned into our brains from the show. Seriously, some things can never be unseen (a Kinect-powered jockey game, anyone?). El Shaddai

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron at E3 2011 made quite the showing and impression on us here at G4. We've been whispering around the office about how excited we are over the game's trippy visuals, bold direction, and novel approach to Western religious interpretation. If you've ever wanted a Bible game with tastes from Okami and Devil May Cry, and yes I did just say Bible game, maybe you'll agree with Jeffrey Matulef's impressions:

"Ignition's upcoming action-adventure title, El Shaddai, may not have the highest budget, but it's an artistic tour de force that, for my money, looked more beautiful than any other game at E3.

This should come as no surprise given that it's directed by Takeyasu Sawaki, a character designer for Okami, which, despite its PS2 origins, I find better looking than most games on current consoles. Where Okami opted for a water colored painted look, El Shaddai goes for a psychedelic spacey 70s cel-shaded style, drawing inspiration from Logan's Run, Alejandro Jodorowski, and Michael Jackson videos. Oh, and the bible. Don't forget the bible."

Now, I got kicked out of my Confirmation Class back in Iowa when I was 12 for proposing that humans ought to ride lightcycles and wield anime-inspired swords while fighting fallen angels, so I'm glad to see that at least I wasn't alone in those beliefs. TERA, the action combat MMO, wants to change the way you play. Used to standing still, cycling spell macros while you microwave a bag of chicken tenders? Not gonna cut it here. Used to reaching endgame content, wishing your character could somehow become more of an influence on the world? Or maybe you just want to exist within the fantasy universe, living out a peaceful, swords-as-big-as-your-horse-less life? Then TERA Producer Chris Hager has some good news for you, located conveniently in the video below:

When Rochard crossed our paths at E3 2011, we weren't sure what to make of its beer-gut hero, Team Fortress 2 graphics, or its Half-Life 2 gravity gun gameplay. Thankfully, we came away not only impressed, but ready to dub the PSN downloadable title as one of our favorites of the show. Jeffrey Matulef was fortunate enough to get an extended peek, and he'd like to show you exactly why:

"The premise is that everyday astro-miner John Rochard discovers an ancient artifact that leads to space bandits capturing his crew unless he can free them. Rochard isn't an action hero, though. With his broad gut and gray moustache, he resembles the perpetually blue collar John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers) and is voiced by the preposterously named John St. John of Duke Nukem fame. It's not the most original tale, but any skepticism I had melted away as soon as I got my hands on the controller."

2K Reboots XCOM As First-Person Shooter

XCOM is the reboot of the alien invasion game, X-COM. At E3 2011 Kevin Kelly got to check out the first person shooter and came away very impressed.

"Since this guy has blown your cover, you'll quickly move into the main portion of the game, which is issuing commands to your squad while moving up and taking control of different situations. Here, a group of Outsiders have holed up behind some sandbags, and they've erected a force shield of some sort. Since the aliens can identify you as the commander of your unit, they focus the shield on you, making it impossible for you to fire on them. You'll do this via a Tactical View that is a nod to the older games in the series, and it gives you an overview of the battlefield, allowing you to plant a diversion."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Preview

At E3 2011 we got our hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's new Spec Ops mode, "Survival". Survival mode features endless waves of enemies that you have to take out using a variety of weapons which unlock as your progress. Kevin Kelly got to test out Survival mode, here's a snippet from his preview:

"Finding a good corner to defend is one of the keys to surviving in Survival mode, but when the dogs and Juggernauts start rolling in, you'll need to go mobile. Luckily, there's an Air Support armory you can unlock, which offers tactical items like an Attack Helicopter, or even a Delta Squad drop-in, where four AI soldiers join and fight alongside you. They can (and will) die, but they're fairly intelligent, will follow you, and are very handy in a firefight. Especially once the suicide bombers start coming in. If they get near you, they'll explode, and if you down them, they'll blink red and then ... explode. But if you think that's bad, just wait until the dogs strapped with C-4 start coming after you. Someone in the Call of Duty world sure hates dogs."

At E3 2011 we got to sit down for a quick word with Peter Bartholow, Designer at Reverge Labs, who's working on the new 2D fighter Skullgirls. Skullgirls is a very unique looking fighting game, taking nods from 1940s Disney characters melded with some Darkstalkers influences. With well-known fighting game expert Mike Z leading the team, Skullgirls is sure to be balanced on all levels.

Skullgirls is coming out later this year for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Need For Speed The Run

Need for Speed: The Run is set to be the biggest, most action-packed entry in the series yet, full of an ominous pursuing force that will use any means necessary to stop protagonist Jack, car chases (and subsequent wrecks), explosions and dramatic story pieces that will take players out from behind the wheel for the first time. It's basically the 1995 movie Heat in video game form.

Okay, so I have no idea if that's true. But a girl can hope! And judging from Adam Rosenburg's preview, even if that's not quite the plot, it still looks just as awesome.

"The Run kicks off in San Francisco, California, moving across the country with stops in other real world locations – a first for the series – at key moments in the race. The endgame goal is New York City, which means that the Chicago-set E3 2011 demo is most likely roughly two-thirds of the way into the game. Whoever Jack pissed off, and the reasons why, have long since been established…now those same individuals are out to get him. With an attack helicopter, naturally."

The Frostbite 2-powered racer will be powersliding through your streets November 15, 2011. Until then, try and keep up with the smoking tires as we follow along up to release. A good place to start? How about the full E3 2011 Need for Speed: The Run preview?

Dust 514 and EVE Online will occupy the same world and interact with one another in revolutionary ways, despite EVE being a future business sim (in space) and strictly PC-only affair while Dust 514, a first-person shooter (in space) is a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
