Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom's fall 2012 release of Street Fighter X Tekken for the PlayStation Vita will come packing an array of cross-platform features, including multiplayer versus matches between Vita and PS3 users as well as DLC and customization data sharing. In another twist, wireless play over the Vita's 3G connection will be supported along with local and Wi-Fi connections.

The Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken, which hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles on March 6, also adds 12 new playable fighters to the roster of 43 in the PS3 version. Those who only the PS3 version of the game will be able to add those fighters to their roster on the console side as free DLC with the purchase of the Vita game. Presumably this also means that PS3 owners who don't own a Vita will at some point be able to pay for the expanded roster in the PS Store.

Escape Plan Getting Free Bakuki's Lair DLC

Escape Plan, Fun Bits Interactive's disturbingly charming and inventive puzzle/platformer launch title for the PlayStation Vita, will be getting some free DLC next week on April 10, 2012. The Bakuki's Lair DLC pack will be the first one released for Escape Plan, adding "19 prequel puzzle rooms," PlayStation Blog confirms.

The setting for this upcoming pack is a "hazardous sausage factory," and the mention of this being prequel content suggests that we'll be learning more about how the playable duo ended up in their predicament. The DLC is part of Escape Plan's v1.01 patch, which promises "more pin-point accuracy on tap blocks" as well as tweaks to the star rating system. Presumably that means you won't be penalized quite as much for accidental front and rear screen taps, a common occurrence for many players.

Silent Hill Book of Memories

The release of the Konami-published PlayStation Vita game, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, has been delayed. The action-oriented game from WayForward Technologies was originally set to arrive on March 27, 2012, but now both Amazon and GameFly are listing it for May 31.

Konami confirmed the news to RipTen in a brief statement that offers no additional detail. More will be revealed in a formal announcement, presumably soon. For now you'll have to tide yourselves over with the recent console releases, Silent Hill: Downpour and the Silent Hill HD Collection.

Foosball 2012 is an upcoming PlayStation 3/PS Vita cross-platform release from Grip Games, a new PlayStation Blog post confirms. A fixture of frat bars and summer camp rec rooms everywhere, the age-old game of table soccer is at last getting the high-def, motion-controlled treatment that it deserves.

A number of details about the game have been confirmed, including plans for PS Move support on the PS3 side and touch controls on the Vita side. There's a single player World Tour mode as well as options for both local and cross-platform online multiplayer. The official Foosball2012.com website mentions a spring 2012 release. Foosball 2012 is a PSN-only title, and you'll only need to buy it once to be able to play it on both Sony platforms.

Making sure video games are fun is the envious job of a producer. But to get to that point, the producer must oversee the studio’s various departments, acting as a liaison between the artists, programmers, testers and so forth. That being said, the exact day-to-day work can vary from company to company, as the title of “video game producer” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s more than tightening up the graphics on level 3.

“The producer’s job,” explains Universal Interactive Executive Producer Pete Wanat, “is to shepherd a product from the conceptual stage until the game code ships to the manufacturer (or is uploaded digitally). The position is about anything you need to do to get the game made - so if you have to clean the office or move boxes or spend 12 hours on the phone working something out, you do what you need to do.”

Touch My Katamari for the Playstation Vita is getting some cool DLC, including a level featuring classic video game god Pac-Man. Finally, I'll get a little revenge on those damn ghosts... plus, you can eat the walls. Right now, the DLC has only been announced for Japan, but I have hope that it will be coming to the U.S. eventually as well.

There are other interesting Katamari additions too, but Pac-Man is the big draw for me. Check out the video to see it in action!

Unit 13

Unit 13 fills a gaping whole in the PlayStation Vita's launch lineup: it's your game for war-loving gamers who just want to shoot some bad guys. Lucky for you, Unit 13 isn't just another military run and gun game. It was developed specifically with bite-sized play sessions in mind, and has a wide variety of missions and customization options which offers tons of replayability.

"Unit 13 also makes very good use of the Vita's touch interfaces. The front-facing screen is filled with contextual commands, things like tapping your weapon icon to reload. All of the contextual stuffappears at the left and right fringes as well, making it easy to, say, reach over with your right thumb to tap the reload icon while maintaining your grip on the device. The rear touchpad is of minimal use; swiping left and right on it while you're aiming down a weapon's sight switching which shoulder you've got it propped against."

Check out our full Unit 13 review to find out whether this shooter should be on your Vita wishlist.
