The Expendables 3 will apparently be garnishing its whopping serving of testosterone with a bit of action-oriented estrogen. While a Deadline report indicates that the film is currently in the process of locking down several of its long-rumored cast members, amongst the list of names was a surprise worthy of a MultiPass in actress, Milla Jovovich.
Indeed, it appears that Jovovich, the star of The Fifth Element, Ultraviolet, as well as the five (and soon to be six) films in the long-running the Resident Evil film franchise has earned her place amongst the action film annals of The Expendables franchise; a proverbial cinematic hall of fame of kickass. While nothing has been revealed regarding the context of her role, in all likelihood, she'll be shedding some blood with the rest of the boys. As the report indicates, she could be set to join fellow new inductees like Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, and Nicolas Cage, all of whom are said to be in "advanced negotiations" to hop aboard this cinematic cruise ship of carnage. Also, Stallone recently revealed that he's been talking with the enigmatic real-life criminal catcher, Steven Seagal about a role and news could come soon on whether he was successful in procuring the action legend.
At the moment, the film appears to have everything it needs to kick off production for its brand of unapologetic anthropogenic apocalyptic ass-beatings. The repertory cast of Sylvester Stallone (who is also essentially in charge of the franchise), Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and the returning Mickey Rourke are already locked and loaded. Plus, Stallone has hand-picked an up-and-coming director in, Patrick Hughes, who wrote and directed the 2010 contemporary western action flick, Red Hill. With the recent surge of old-school action stars returning to box-office prominence seemingly in jeopardy this year with abysmal box-office efforts in Stallone's Bullet to the Head and Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand, adjustments had to be made to ensure that this cash-cow of a franchise does not suffer the same humiliation. The addition of Milla Jovovich could be a step in not only adding some sex appeal to the primary cast, but could give this entry a much-needed new flavor.
The Expendables 3 trades viral zombies for generic terrorist targets when it hits theaters, likely sometime in 2014.
