Star Trek Into Darkness: Gravity Gripping Clip With Kirk And Scotty

Posted May 1, 2013 - By Joseph Baxter

Star Trek Into Darkness clearly doesn't think that you've already had your fill of sample scenes. Thus, they continue to beam these meaty movie morsels online, the latest of which features Chris Pine's Captain James Kirk and Simon Pegg's Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in a suspenseful stroll to the Enterprise's engineering section that quite literally ends up full of twists and turns.

What seems to be the aftermath of a major ship battle sends the duo scrambling to fix the...aft power coupling...warp core...flux capacitor...phase inducers -- ah, screw it, who knows? The point is that an apparent battle that was surely an unmitigated orgy of awesome effects has left the Enterprise spinning in space with its gravity gizmos not working worth a damn. The result is something akin to a hypothetical Christopher Nolan take on the Star Trek saga full of head-spinning dimensional shifts in a dream within a dream, leaving us waiting for a grizzled-voiced vigilante to violently interrogate random red shirts.

While Scotty appears to be "givin' it all he's gawt," it seems that Kirk is the only thing keeping the Scotch-swigging space mechanic from a violent, fiery collision with an Enterprise bulkhead. Just like with another great cinematic duo, Kirk can't carry Scotty's engineering responsibilities, but he can carry HIM.

Star Trek Into Darkness drops bystanders into theater walls on May 17.
