Destiny Is An Online Shooter Set In A Persistent World

Posted February 18, 2013 - By Adam Rosenberg

Destiny is here. Bungie Studios has finally let loose with the first details on its new, post-Halo sci-fi universe. A press release describes the game as "an ambitious evolution of the first-person action genre that brings gamers together in a shared, persistent world." As you might expect, this is one of those upcoming games that requires an always-on Internet connection.

Early prevews describe a game universe that blends first-person shooting action with RPG progression and profile customization. Players take the role of Guardians in Earth's last city, though visiting other planets -- from "the red dune of Mars to the lush jungles of Venus" -- appears to be a big part of the game as well. The aim is to bring cooperative, competitive, and social elements together, much like other MMO games do.
