Tomb Raider Gameplay Highlights Island Dangers

Lara Croft isn't going to have an easy time in Tomb Raider, as this new 11-minute clip of gameplay footage demonstrates. She runs, she shoots, she sneaks, she leaps, scales, and shimmies, but she's also slowed down by nagging wounds and susceptible to hazards both natural and human-made.

Watch along above as Lara carves an unlikely -- and partially unintentional -- route down a mountain for herself, transitioning from typical running and platforming to being carried along by a rushing river to a last-minute parachute save. The descent ends up aggravating wounds sustained earlier, leaving the heroine hobbled and cut off from her traversal abilities.

Tomb Raider is shapping up to be quite an intense experience, twisting the core ideas of the series for a much darker and more hopeless adventure. Then again, this is Lara Croft we're talking about. Don't ever count her out. Tomb Raider arrives on March 5, 2013.
