It seems that next year's solo Avengers outing, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will see the return of a villain.
Actor, Toby Jones, who played the sinister scientist, Arnim Zola in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, has confirmed that he will be returning for the 2014 sequel. In an interview with Hey U Guys at London's Critics Circle Awards yesterday, Jones discussed his current projects before being asked about a possible return to Captain America, to which he candidly responded, "It looks like I will be."
The film will focus on Captain America's readjustment to the modern world before a harsh reunion with his old buddy, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who, also unfrozen from the 1940's, has become a brainwashed death-bringer known as The Winter Soldier. However, for Jones' Arnim Zola character, who we last saw in captivity of the Allies, the long years of survival may be explained by a metaphysical transfer of his consciousness into his powerful robot body; a process that he famously utilizes in the comic books. In fact, schematics for the robot body are quickly shown in First Avenger in a "blink and you miss it" Easter Egg moment.
For Jones, his impending return to Marvel's Avengers movie universe marks yet another coup as he also prepares for a return as Claudius Templesmith in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this fall.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier tosses a vibranium shield at theaters on April 4, 2014.
