It appears that the 2010 franchise reboot, Tron: Legacy will be getting a sequel after all.
Disney is reportedly negotiating with screenwriter, Jesse Wigutow to pen the script after an earlier draft by David Digilio was scrapped. With that set, Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is reportedly returning to the helm.
A rather unknown commodity, Wigutow was previously tapped to script the currently-sidelined remake of The Crow earlier this year and is already working with Disney on an update of the Peter Pan mythos called Peter and the Starcatchers. Now, the sequel to the $400 million-grossing Legacy could serve to raise his profile.
With the news that Disney is moving forward with the third feature installment in its classic eye-popping, philosophically-Trojan-horsed techno-thriller, you can bet that loads of Daft Punk-listening fans will be practicing their disc-tossing techniques and revving their imaginary light cycles for an impending return to the Grid.
Thus far, no details have been revealed on the "whens" or "whats," but it does seem that Garrett Hedlund's Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde's AI-turned-real love interest, Quorra have unfinished business at the arcade.
