Atari's classic table tennis game Pong is celebrating its 40th (40th!?!) anniversary today (11/29) and Atari is honoring its highly regarded original IP by giving you gifts! Originally released in 1972, Pong was an almost overnight cultural sensation that firmly put videogames on the map. It also raked in money; upright cabinets grossed nearly $40 per day (unheard of at the time). In 1975 Atari's Home Pong console was released and grossed $40 million that holiday season alone. That Xbox 360 or PS3 in your home today owes a lot to Pong's tremendous success in 1972.
To celebrate Pong's 40th anniversary today Atari released Pong World, a free mobile Pong game for iOS, and they're giving away a limited edition Atari 2600-skinned Xbox 360 on their official Facebook page. Click that link, it's pretty sick.
