The gaming Internet is still buzzing over the news that BioWare is at work now on the next entry in the Mass Effect series, and a new update from BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy reveals a few new facts. The big news item is that the next Mass Effect game will be powered by Frostbite 2, the same engine being used to build the upcoming Dragon Age 3.
Roy also drops a few hints about what to expect from the future of Mass Effect, cautioning fans to let go of their attachments to the Shepard trilogy. You can expect the franchise to move in "new directions, both on the gameplay and the story fronts," though with the core pillars of "diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and... rich, cinematic storytelling" remaining.
Roy closes the update with the comment that it will probably be "quite awhile before you hear from us again." No surprises there though. Dragon Age is clearly what's next for this studio, so it's probably going to be radio silence on all things Mass Effect until that one arrives.
