Microsoft used some form of dark magic to make gamers care about meaningless points earned via Achievements and Sony eventually followed suit with Trophies, but Nintendo is bucking that trend on the Wii U. Although the 3DS handheld offers very Cheevo-like Accomplishments, that feature won't be transferred over to the new console when it hits stores on November 18, 2012.
The news comes from 5th Cell co-founder and Scribblenauts Unlimited creative director Jeremiah Slaczka, who wrote on NeoGAF that "it is up to the developer to include [achievements] or not" (via GamesRadar). Slaczka went on to say that the upcoming Scribblenauts features its own cheevo-like challenges that earn you "Global Starite Shards." He also admits that Nintendo's gameplan could change in the future. Just don't expect to go hunting for Accomplishments at launch.
