David Braben's open-galaxy space sim Elite has a lot of fans, and the creator is banking on those fans stepping up to support the just-launched Kickstarter for his planned sequel, Elite: Dangerous (via Kotaku). Braben is seeking £1,250,000 (roughly $2 million) from backers during the two-month campaign, though the funding page does much more telling than showing.
Braben offers up a logo and a detailed description of what his studio -- Frontier Developments, the folks behind Lostwinds -- would do with Elite: Dangerous, but the Kickstarter lacks things like a proof of concept trailer or artwork, either or both of which would normally help to convince backers. Is Elite's name recognition alone enough to nab Braben $2 million in funding? We'll certainly find out over the next 59 days.
