I mostly played Assassin's Creed 3 and took naps this weekend, but Apple wasn't sleeping. The company says it sold 3 million iPads.
The company put two new models of the iPad on sale: The fifth generation iPad and the iPad mini, and while they didn't break down how much of each model was sold, the overall sales figures released were ahead of many industry analyst's predictions, so it's a happy Monday in Cupertino.
According to analysts, Apple most likely sold around 1.5 million iPad minis.
Even the aftermath of hurricane Sandy didn't dampen the sales of the new tablets. In New York, Apple reports that many stores are sold out of the devices, even though some residents remain without power. I wonder how many New Yorkers are staring at a slick, perfectly designed paperweight at this very moment.
“We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. “We’re working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand.”
