Aaron Paul, the actor known to many as Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman, is now confirmed for the starring role in DreamWorks' big screen adaptation of EA's Need for Speed franchise (via CNBC). Shooting is expected to start early next year, with a release planned for February 7, 2014. Not exactly a prime release window, but then this is a video game adaptation we're talking about.
Attached to the director's chair is Scott Waugh, who previously helmed 2012's Navy SEALs movie, Act of Valor. It's not clear yet if the movie will draw on a specific NFS game or if it will simply embrace the series' stylistic elements. The next in the series, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, hits stores on October 30, 2012. With the movie not coming until 2014, however, it's possible that Waugh and his team are working with EA to incorporate elements from the next (unannounced) game in the series.
