EA Sports is planning to simulate the 2012-2013 professional hockey season in order to ensure that NHL 13 is supported, at least to some extent, by real-time data. Like other EA Sports titles, the recently released NHL 13 is fueled in part by data and roster updates based on the real-life movements of the 2012-2013 pro hockey season.
The NHL is a bit of a mess right now with the season's start delayed as the team owners and NHL Player's Association remain locked in a labor dispute. The October 11, 2012 start of the season has already been postponed until October 25, and it could slip out even further if an agreement isn't reached soon. EA has already simmed week one and will continue doing so for the forseeable future. Check out week one results right here.
At least someone seems to care about pro hockey. The people who make millions each year overseeing and playing the games sure don't seem to.
